I stopped using lighter fluid years ago. I use Walmart All Natural Cowboy Brand charcoal. Instead of ashing over, I dump the chimney when I start to just see the flame dancing over the top. Happy grilling!!!

One wonders if the reason the mfg recommends letting the charcoal ash over is that you will use 20% more product per cook.

how long does it take for the ambient end of the probe to get a temp reading of the inside temp of the smoker and how fast does the ambient end of the probe display increase or decrease in temperature ? dio i need to use wifi or will the bluetooth work by itself ?
@GrillTopExperience2 күн бұрын
It'll update every few seconds. The probe is thick, so it takes a few seconds longer to register the temp from a cold start, but changes in the grill dont usually happen quickly, so you probably wouldn't notice. Wi-Fi isn't required, but it allows you to get past Bluetooth range and still monitor the cook.

@ Thanks a bunch my thermopro tempspike plus arrived today and so far the tests have been pretty good im so looking forward to not having to go out every hour in winter to monitor the cook

Appreciate the video. I’m looking for a better cleaning product. That truly is nontoxic. I know you say simple green is nontoxic but ingredients suggest otherwise with at least two synthetic preservatives and skin irritants. Don’t be fooled by the product name and false advertisement. You have to actually look at the ingredients.

To their credit, the most recent bottle of Simple Green I purchased does not say non toxic.

Great, now you ate chicken with: starch binders, sodium nitrate accelerants, limestone fillers, borax release agents, and potentially lighter fluid residues. Consider buying natural charcoal instead; this way, you can start earlier.

One thing to note when utilizing used charcoal is that if you are trying to sear a steak, you get the heat but you will not get the healthy flame as when you use new charcoal. Doing half a chimney of old and half of new helps get a healthy flame needed for searing.

For thick steak, I always use oven to get into the internal temperature before searing on a grill. I wonder if it makes any difference to use grill all the way.

My friend this is exactly what KZbin is for, I bought my grill pre assembled and sat through countless videos trying to figure out what it was for. I initially thought it was for the propane tank. You definitely deserve award for making one of the most useful videos I ever seen!!!…lol Kiddos to you!!!

do I need to soak the wood chips in water before adding them?

I've found that it doesn't help to soak the wood chips in water. It's better to let them burn naturally.

Yeah,my gripe is it needs a deeper kettle and bigger, or taller lid.... great overall design just feel like the coals are too close to the grate

You don't want new charcoal lighting constantly for slow cooking. You want good seasoned wood that has had time to burn down to coals. Then, add wood a little at a time. Charcoal is for newbies and for grilling steaks only.

I've used this about 8 times on my Weber performer so far and this is my review: Positives: The unit is very well designed and solid and does what it is supposed to do by keeping a cluster of charcoal briquettes burning at a stable temperature. Setup and programming is easy. It is fun to use and there are lots of helpful YT videos. Food turns out great if you prefer charcoal flavoring and already know how to slow cook various meats (ribs, turkey, chicken, beef) low and slow and occasionally sear. Negatives: Not the fault of this unit, but the lit charcoal inside the kettle always means you can do little to no cooking directly above the charcoal, thereby cutting down available grill space by 25-33%. This is not the case with a Traeger for example, where the fire box is separate from the cooking box. The kettle does not have enough briquette capacity for a longer cook (beyond 4 hours at 300-ish in my experience without adding more) unless you have yet another add-on like a slow n sear. Dealing with the ash is a hassle IMO on longer cooks and I dislike disturbing the ash with food already on the grill. On a Traeger, this is not near the problem. RATING: Five stars for the unit itself. Four stars for actual use, factoring in dealing with ash during a long cook, and limited coal space. For someone who has no grill and wants a grill I might not recommend buying a Kettle plus the Venom, but instead a Traeger or similar pellet grill. But to upgrade an existing Weber, this is a quite nice purchase and I've grilled some of my best meats ever with this Weber / Venom setup. Thank you Spider Venom.

Hey, great video. If you were going to start the dark meat earlier than the breast , how much earlier would you put the dark meat on the grill? I'm trying to get it all to finish at the same time.

If using a Weber kettle, do you think it'd be worth using the slow n' sear with the water reservoir filled for this kind of cook?
@GrillTopExperience14 күн бұрын
You can do that as long as you don't go much over 275 and the extra moisture could help. I didn't want to make it look like you have to use other products to get it done.

oh my 🙄, I thought it was something I should hook to the door - I haven't so I its just hanging there. I change the battery on the starter once a year and keep the burn tubes clean - so I haven't had that problem, though I wondered how I would lite it if I have to someday. Thanks much!
