I'm sure they make great sheds. As material and labor goes, it's probably much cheaper to build a traditional frame structure

As soon as you have to go to conventional wood framing, the entire container home idea becomes a bit unpractical and ridiculous..

I am revisiting this video series after a while and the more I see these container home builds, the more I am realising that this probably is not the way for the construction of my home plans.

Great production quality! One comment, you could build it anywhere, why for the love of all that is good did you build it in hell

this was a well done video. thank you. though sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who cannot stand the trifold doors. those according doors are are a hard "no" for me as they are pricey and just make no sense to me because of the amount of space they take up when open. but people do seem to like them. I really found the passive solar explanation easy to understand and very interesting. now THAT information was gold. thank you

Container homes: because who needs a 401k when you can just live in a giant metal box and eat ramen noodles for the rest of your life? I heard this Chinese company just dropped $3 billion on a Global Village project in NYC... and honestly , it's probably just a clever ploy to create a population of container-dwelling zombies who will do their bidding. 'Resistance is futile,' they'll say, as they release an army of ramen-fueled undead into the streets.

The final container house really only uses a frame that isn't very sturdy. Is it cheaper, faster, and better than building a steel frame yourself?

What a rip-off all round. $10k for a little mini split. $8k for 2 doors. How much for the idiot engineer who does not anything about engineering? But hey, you saved sooooo much money using containers! This is not a channel for people looking to build a strong and economical house, it's a channel for wealthy people using their wealth to make more money.

Whatever "engineer" decided you need regular framing and plywood sheathing on the inside of a container is a total idiot. He has no business calling himself an engineer, he's no better than a hammer swinger you pick up outside Home Depot. Reinforcing a material of high strength and high modulus of elasticity with crappy bits of wood does NOTHING! Of course you need to reinforce around doors and windows; easy-peasy with welded tube or angle. Does the village idiot engineer think that whatever damage a storm or earthquake might do to the container will be prevented by the addition of some sticks and plywood? Madness.

So you've built a house inside a container. Seems wasteful. You're not really using the structural advantages of the container. Your structural engineer is an idiot; why would you need all that structure with a container?? The only engineering concern here is door and window cutouts and that can be handled with minimal steel refinement . All that pointless OSB and studs is just a waste of money. It's only purpose is to satisfy the incompetent engineer and permit mafia, who don't have a clue about structures in the first place, I suppose.

Don't build containers house on house foundation, then you don't go to permits expenses. If you do foundation build a house then by permit.

That’s wild the county makes you pay for an effluent test. I’m from Ontario, Canada. If you aren’t within 100 meters to a protected river. Leach away.

Can also create your own leach field, with a pump it can be built above grade. Downhill, built on a slope, above grade no pump needed

Thought you did an amazing job high attention to detail. One question is to me the header over the large opening doesn’t seem to be snug to the ceiling so it’s almost superficial. I’m sure I just didn’t see it properly any deeper thoughts on my comment?

I’m trying to understand why you would pour a structural slab to set a container on, that is structural and sea worthy, then jackhammer the structural slab and remove structural members of the container compromising both structures to accommodate plumbing, which could have gone underground if you did not pour a slab and set it on piers and that would’ve made the plumbing and all of your underground work and the build in general quicker easier and cheaper. I mean how much money could you have saved not pouring that slab, making Swiss cheese out of that slab and the box not to mention all of the caulking, foam insulation, cutting welding, and repair work?? Wow! 🤯 That being said you should not mention anything about being cheaper or more efficient during this video. 😂

Would make sense to me if you size your elect system to maybe a 80 % of need and if your need starts to exceed this 80% then a generator may be needed for a short time without adding expense of a battery which is not needed very often.

Hello Ben, first off, thanks for all the detailed instructions. You're answering questions before I get them. 🤭 I may have overlooked, but do you have a blueprint or a plot plan showing exactly where all your underground pipes are? Ain't nothing like trying to find an extra underground, without marking it on the prints 🫨
