The Modern Home Project

Күн бұрын

In this episode of The Modern Home Project we will build out the first bathroom for the shipping container house. We will go over the egress challenges of placing a bathroom in a space that is just 7-feet wide and how those design challenges influenced product selection.
List of products we used in the container home: www.homedepot.com/c/openhouse
Link to the drawings for the container house: www.themodernhomeproject.com/...
Check out HomeMade Modern our DIY Channel: / homemademodern
Buying the Shipping Containers: We purchased one trip condition hi-cube containers. California requires that shipping containers used for homes have documentation showing that have not had toxic or radioactive materials in them. This normally means that you need one trip condition containers with appropriate certificates. I bought my containers from www.containerdiscounts.com/sh... and paid $4800 each for the 40-foot hi-cube containers and $3250 for the 20-foot hi-cube container. Hi-cube containers are a foot taller than typical shipping containers.

Great idea having the walk-through bathroom! Having a flat mirror over the skinny vanity might be better so your face isn't up against it when you're washing your hands. Maybe storage on one side instead. The ad was my favorite part! 😉😉

Love it, Ben. I like the methoding behind the pass through design. I personally would have tried to find a way to enclose the toilet separate from the past through space. Maybe rotate it 90° against the dividing wall, and wall it off from the shower and vanity. Would be tight, but the privacy would be nice. Something I learned to love about many Australian bathrooms is the separation of toilets from vanity and shower.
@martymaloney1032

Cam-Asher Bond It’s nice to have it separated but I imagine most people would leave that door open because it would feel claustrophobic...I’ve seen a number of bathrooms that could not have been to code because my shoulder was touching the wall. You need room to maneuver. 😬

Based upon some of the comments, if you do some internet searches you can find the build that uses double wide and double high 40 foot and extra high containers. There is a center space that is enclosed by heavy duty garage-type doors with windows. These were painted a dark red; not something I would use. The one I am thinking of also had a swimming pool that also used a shipping container.

Only thing I don't like was the vanity, you only have about 3 inches of room infront of you over the toilet, you're going to be dropping alot of water on the toilet. I was at a airbnb apt. In Dec. And it had a tiny vanity like that and it was a nightmare to wash your face or shave...you make a mess on the floor.
