I have watched both your videos about how the toilet works! I REALLY appreciate your detail in how it works and how to clean it. This helps me in my decision to go tiny and tastes the stress and worry out of it for me!!! Thank you so much!

This was good 😊 at least you explain the facts! 👍🏻I just can’t believe the IMMENSE embarrassment when discussing this NATURAL BODILY FUNCTION!!! Absolutely Crazy - WE ALL ALLOW WASTE to be released from our bodies - ITS ESSENTIAL!!! Anyway, there is one question NO ONE ANSWERS - WHERE DOES THE POOP GO??? Do you just throw it in a regular trash can? Does it STILL SMELL? Isn’t that a problem for the trash companies??? I think you can recycle it once it’s dried out especially if you used saw dust? These are important questions because we MUST BE RESPONSIBLE INTELLIGENT HUMANS and CLEAN UP THIS EARTH in a Healthy way.

Do you make a “poop raft” (lay down a few sheets of toilet paper) before you poop so that you don’t get smudges on the blue flap?
@tinyhouseconcierge2 ай бұрын
I can totally see why you'd ask this question! Fortunately, there is no "poop raft" (love that term!) needed because sitting on the seat triggers a lever that pulls the blue flap out of the way. The blue flap is just there to shield your eyes from the contents of the bucket if the lid is up and you're not sitting on the toilet.

Put a few scoops of compostable kitty litter at the bottom of the solids bin to make sure things stay dry and odor free. If you happen to get a wet #2 the stuff will clump.

But, where do you get rid of the pooh bag? The garbage? And, the pee goes into your grey water supply? Isn't that a bit yuck?
@tinyhouseconcierge3 ай бұрын
As far as disposing of the poop bag, you'll want to ask your waste management facility directly. I've had some cities tell me I can throw it in the composting bin with food waste and grass clippings, and others tell me to just put it in with the trash. It sounds a little crazy, but if you think about it, we do the same thing with baby diapers, we just wrap it in plastic first.

GREAT VID! questions (may be in comments but I'm lazy)... 1.do/could you use any kind of like rid-x, composting material that aids in breaking the solid matter down? 2. how do YOU get rid of your solids? we live rural & considering for a tiny house - but we throw our trash away at our work & not really something that sounds like a good idea to "commute" lol.
@HPFKarrie3 ай бұрын
or do you actually "compost" it? idk why but composting human solids seems wrong (as compared to every animal solids I've composted over the years LOL)
@tinyhouseconcierge3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! 1) No, definitely don't use anything to facilitate the composting process in the toilet. Technically, this is a "waterless" toilet, although everyone and their mother refers to it as a "composting" toilet. This is the case because the composting doesn't actually happen IN the toilet, but afterward when you (presumably) take the dehydrated waste and compost it where appropriate. *I titled the video so people would find what they were searching for.* 2) I've handled it different depending on what my various waste management facilities have told me. Some have the capacity for me to throw it in with composting trash services. Others told me to throw the bag in the garbage. (Which feels weird, but we do it with baby diapers... so..) Hope that helps!

I was thinking about that too! I would probably cover it with a few sheets of toilet paper before I pooped. It would keep poop smudges off of the flap.

My wife and I have land in a location where drilling is so expensive that you might as well just sell the land instead of finding a way to get well water. @heididecker7075 ай бұрын
I know its called "composting" but what do you actually do with the bags once removed from the toilet? Just throw in the trash? Because not everyone has a compost pile where you would actually compost it. Second question, could you use microbes, sawdust, coco coir, etc.? I that helpful or not helpful? Thanks.
@tinyhouseconcierge4 ай бұрын
Great questions! So, most people call this a "composting" toilet, but I believe Separett actually calls it a "waterless" toilet to demonstrate the fact that the composting doesn't actually happen in the toilet. What happens with the bag depends on the waste management facilities in your area. If composting trash service is available, sometimes you'll be told to put it in with the food waste/yard waste. Other times, I've been told to put it in with the regular garbage. That felt pretty crazy, but when you think about it, we take wet baby waste, wrap it in plastic and throw it in the trash, so this is dry adult waste wrapped in a biodegradable bag... maybe that's better? Composting human waste safely is a big undertaking. I haven't tackled that part of the process myself!

@@tinyhouseconcierge thanks. When I was young, all the dogs in the neighborhood ran freely and did their business wherever they wanted. Now we're so much more civilized and we pick up dog poo in a plastic bag and drop it in the trash. And we think that is normal. I don't see much of a difference if we do it with our own.

Mine is in a little bathroom outside. It smells like poop in the bathroom now that the toilet has been in use for 3-4 days. Is it normal? Is it because of the very hot weather? I'm super disappointed and I really want it to work out, but the smell is quite bad. Could it be that the fan isn't working properly? It doesn't smell outside, but inside, yes! Please help!
