Hello Gina, my name is Steve and I'm in Arizona I bought a 2019 Indian Chieftain Limited in March of 24', did my riding class a month before, so same boat as you. New rider, but not on 2 wheels, so a little different. The wind thing you gotta lean into the wind, don't hold the handlebars too tight but enough so you won't lose grip. The MT-07, the guy wanted the other bike but didn't want to give up the mods so he put cheap stuff on there. Oh and 9 months after i bought the Indian i got an XSR900, try to find demo rides and ride as many as you can. I really wanted the GSX-8R, but then I test rode it and that changed. But it got down to a MT-09 SP, Indian FTR carbon and the XSR900, i sat on all, they were REAL close, FTR not making anymore, and then ALL the comparison on you tube changed me to the XSR900. I did test ride a 400 Royal Enfield and the lacking of power was just that, sorry this is so looooong. Well glad you're ok, oh and at 1st when I got the Chieftain I didn't ride it for the 1st couple of months I had it, people asked why I wasn't riding it, "I said I was scared", they said why did you get it, "I said I'm scared that once I started riding, I always be on it" and now I have 2, thinking about a 3rd, ok this is good bye, see ya, Steve

My Grom clone also has a "250" cc engine. And it's currently the bike I ride most. It cruises wonderfully at 35-55mph, and tops out at 70mph. For highways, I have my CFmoto 450, which has just enough power to be fast and fuel efficient.

i think this is the same as the school-bike i tried to get the license on, and i went from automatic 50cc scooter to this, so that was a big change and trying to learn the gearing out in traffic wasnt easy, but kinda want to try again next spring, the superlight throttle was frustrating trying to learn :P

You were very brave to start riding. I’ve tried to get my daughters to ride in their 20’s. Maybe no motivation or not enough coordination. Kudos to you. Cheers

I am a third generation motorcyclist. (My grandfather courted my grandmother on a 1916 Indian) When I got my first bike, my father told me that if I could get through the first six months without an accident that I would be well on my way to becoming a good rider. I still believe that.

I love that your 50 and ride a SPORT BIKE I'm 34 and I have no kids or a husband. I was starting to wonder if I'd be weird if I kept trying to ride a sport bike. Or if all the women riders were 21. I'm glad there are more and more fierce women. It's the best feeling to ride. It's literally being at peace with your mental health hahaha if more women knew how it feels. It's undescribable

Hi Gina! Thanks for the update. I have been wondering what you were up to and how you were getting along with the MT-07. I started riding about five years ago also at the age of 50. I started on a Honda Monkey and loved that little bike. About two years ago I got the itch to get something bigger and bought a KTM adventure bike. I’m glad I kept the Monkey, because I didn’t really enjoy riding the KTM. Last Fall I traded in the KTM on a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and I have to say I really like it to the point where I think I’m probably ready to sell the Monkey. I hope you find something you like to just hop on and ride. I think it’s great that you do theater and have other interests to keep you busy. Riding motorcycles is fun, but it doesn’t have to be everything or the only thing you do. Be well and God bless. 🙂

Oh wow...This is me! I withdrawalled myself from the MSF course because of heat but mainly my anxiety. I just bought a bike and am trying again with the course in two weeks. Anyways, hearing this is exactly how I'm feeling. I worry about other drivers seeing me and traffic. I'm so excited and nervous... I really want to ride!!!

Thank you so much for this video Gina. I'm 55yo and about to get leaner permit here in Australia. Up until a month ago I'd never been on a motorcycle despite the fact my entire family has bikes. About a month ago I had a go on bike on a friend's farm with my brother helping me and I loved it! My brother has had his license for years and has been so helpful. He kind of can't believe I've decided to get my license! I'm looking at a Honda CBR500 as a first bike probably. I know I'll be nervous but that's probably a good thing. I'm glad I'm a bit older as when I was young I would have probably been a bit too silly and taken too many risks. Also when younger I found I tended to be encouraged to do risky stuff by others. Now I'm nearly 56 I don't care what others think anymore! 🤣 I'll take it at my own pace and safely. Your video has really helped me as it's easy to think that I'm the only one nervous / excited about riding. Thanks again! Craig - Australia 😀

Great video. I used to own a 1999 Suzuki GZ250. I now own a 2024 Suzuki SV650 and love it!!! You are right when describing its power; it's not a beginner bike and is easy to handle. Yet the bike does have "manageable" power greater than a lesser CC machine. The SV650 is really more bike than most people will reasonably need.

I bought my first motorcycle, a CSC "San Gabriel" SG-250, in May of 2024. The most important factor, for me, was the 26 inch seat-height. I'm only 5 feet 6 inches tall and have short legs. But, I can "flat foot" my bike. The SG-250 does what I need it to do. I can explore side-roads and do some highway traveling with limited performance expectations. I recently had "scrambler" handlebars installed, along with a 16 tooth front sprocket (which improved the top-speed and made my bike more comfortable to ride between 30 to 55+ miles per hour, when compared with the stock 14 tooth front sprocket). Shinko 244 tires completed my bike's transformation. I'm confident I can explore dirt roads, side-roads and interstate highways now. I won't win drag-races or moto-cross competitions, but I've got the bike I wanted for my purposes. :-) MotoCult also sells upgrade kits for the SG-250. It's possible to get the stock 14 horsepower upgraded to over 20 horsepower. Such an upgrade makes the SG-250 engine comparable to the Royal Enfield 350 engine, on a bike that weighs less (SG-250 weighs 273 pounds). I haven't purchased that upgrade, yet. But I mention it for those who may be interested.

If i was in Florida i'd have anxiety too lol. Lived there for 15 miserable years and while i was there had absolutely zero desire to ride. I had bikes, just never rode them there, like ever. It was just depressing, riding straight on flat roads with no scenery from light to light past cookie cutter strip malls and the same fake gated 'community' over and over hoping Florida Man and his monster truck don't come out of nowhere high on bath salts and drive over me like a speedbump. Now i live on top of the continental divide almost two miles high and it's always a joy to go ride. No crowds, traffic lights, city streets, strip malls, suburbs, and crazies. Fun twisty roads to ride, mostly dirt, and it's always beautiful. Although now i often don't ride because i already live where i want to be, or i just ride around on the mountain and practice. The only 'anxiety' i really get is when i have to deal with others on the road, because i know they're mostly oblivious idiots. And it's not even really 'anxiety' it's more like frustration i have to do a chore, put in extra work to ride safely and track everything i can see and hear, use offensive and defensive strategies and keep my head on a swivel because others lack skills or sense. I work hard to perfect my skills, but no amount of skill will save you from some cartoon character type loony toon doing the equivalent of dropping a piano on your head. I mean i get the same anxiety from being out in public, bike or not, at any time some crazy nonsense could just start popping off even if you're just standing there minding your own business.

I just bought my first motorcycle! Got trained, licensed, insured, the works...but a month ago I had never even sat in a motorcycle. The training course going into 2nd gear on a parking lot without traffic didn't fully prepare me! When I bought the bike and had to take it home on the street with stop lights and traffic was terrifying! I'm trying to take it out here and there for short trips (not during rush hour) on smaller roads and parking lots to master the "Not stalling" maneuver lol.

So I've been riding since 2001 and I've taken a lot of time off in all those years. Literally my last break was 8 years! I still kept my motorcycle but I should have sold it. It sucks that the dealership didn't let you ride this new bike before you bought it. There are many dealerships that will. Just be prepared to walk away from a buy when they say no. "I've been burned in the past and simply refuse to buy without a test ride." Hell even Harley Davidson let me test ride my new bike when they knew I was serious and that was a $20,000 brand new bike. Ride what you want Ride when you want Ride where you want And don't let anyone try to convince you to do what you don't want to do. I had a friend that used to give me grief for not riding my bike all the time to work after I bought it. For long periods of time I wouldn't ride it to work and he was like "Why did you spend all that money if you're not going to even ride it." and I replied "Why do you even give a fuck? It's not your bike, it's not ever going to be your bike. It's my bike and I'll do what I want with it....including putting it in the garage to fall apart if that's what I want to do. NOTHING you say or feel about will change my mind. Besides it's creepy for you to be so upset with how someone else lives their life. Mind your own business." haha he never asked me about it again.
