Ordered mine yesterday. Pretty excited. Been a few years since I picked up anything for the skinner/chopper/hunter/camp knife arsenal. Plus I’m fascinated with the history of North American fur trading. Oh yeah, and the Hudson Bay knife was Tom Hardy’s knife in The Revenant.

Understanding that it takes two sterno fuel cans to cook, the equipment works. The operator needs to do more research or have more experience.

Can you cook directly on an open fire instead of using a grate or gas canister?

Good video! I wonder how much that nylon upper guard on the handle can take a beating before it cracks. Expecially in winter when temperature can be low, here can be -30°C.

Nice, honest review. I'm glad I found this video (Jan 2023!) as I have been considering adding a sterno option to my tiny stove collection. Now I know the limitations of the fuel source, in general, and this stove in particular. Too bad as it an interesting design. No longer available on Amazon.

Question. Can you take calipers and measure the inner and outer diameter of the barrel after you cut it? What I'm interested in doing is threading it for a barrel extension choke, and just storing the barrel extension choke in the butt stock. Can you give me those dimensions?

The Hudson bay is intended more for firewood and shelter building. For fine work like feathering and for firework you need more of a bushcraft type knife. The Hudson Bay is an excellent chopper and batoning knife and is excellent for quartering large game for transport back to camp. I have had one for years and I haven't had any issue at all with the sheath. I don't know why you would need to "quick draw" a chopper anymore than you would a hatchet. I also find it very convenient being able to swivel it out of the way when sitting. Over all an excellent camp knife when used for its intended purpose. You don't fillet fish with an axe, why try to do fine work with a heavy chopper?

I've used these for years and love them as a general purpose belt knife. I pair one with a schrade schf9 for big chopping/batoning chores and the two work very well as a set. I have a few years of almost daily use and abuse on the freeman's.

I might try this but i might try to leave a little extra on the barrel and make it so the barrel is an even lenght to the end of the stock when folded. I love the wood finish, so i might try to color match it with stain to preserve that look. And then paint trigger guard back to black. This was a really nice tutorial
