First time i've seen a photographer on youtube mention warm up shots. Back in the day when shooting sport professionally it was essential to use teams warming up to get my responses up to speed. Its important to get the brain in the right mode not just the camera

By custom 1 mode do you mean you are using one of the memory recall modes? If you do then the camera will not let you set a custom white balance. A very annoying situation that hopefully will get sorted out in a firmware update in the future

Is "Fine Art" Photography just Black and White pics? Is "Course Art Photography" just color pics? Or is it just a B&W pic that is simply a good photo?
@NiftyFiftyPhotographers
@NiftyFiftyPhotographers 2 ай бұрын
Thats an interesting debate. Personally I think any photo color or black and white can be fine art. Of course it needs to be a good photo to start with. Although there does seem to be more of an association with black and white for fine art. In the example I use in this video I would have struggled to make this a very artistic piece if i had processed it in color. Thank you for the thought provoking comment 🙏
@nelsonclub7722

The answer may surprise you. You are right and you are wrong. Its arbitrary - if you call it 'Fine Art' its Fine Art. If you don't it isn't, even though it is!!!!. The reasoning is thusly; all art however it is created can all be classed as 'Fine Art' which is 'That which the artist has created' or 'visualised'. So that cover's everything. Most people, and especially photographers, here and elsewhere mis-quote their 'minimalist photography' (a form of fine art ), as fine art, where in fact both are correct ,but both are also misleading - hope that helps!!!!!
@NiftyFiftyPhotographers
@NiftyFiftyPhotographers 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for explaining that. I think I understand that now 😀
@brucehart706
@brucehart706 2 ай бұрын
You have opened a can of worms there. Fine art photos tend to be minimal or uncluttered. B&W by its very nature often succeeds in this as it lacks colour distraction. I think… 🙂
@nelsonclub7722
@nelsonclub7722 2 ай бұрын
@@brucehart706 I think this is exactly where the confusion lies - if you compare certain photographers so say 'fine art photography' you will often find it is just minimalist as you say - Fine Art vs Minimalism is a fine line becuase all art can be classed as fine art - so it is both - I think!!😀

Such a great story of the power of a creative hobby, I tell my story to others and they don't get it. I guess some people never will understand people like us who have found something that literally saved their lives. I tell people photography saved my life and my marriage. It could have been any hobby but it was photography for me. I did photography when I was 4 years old, my parents were made keen on it but I didn't pursue it as a teenager, more intereting things to chase! Ha ha! I dabbled with film cameras but I never took it seriously and then real life and jobs caught up with me. 18 years ago I had a 4 year old daughter and life at home was stressful with my wife. My job was working for an absolute bastard but the pay was so good it meant my wife could stay home and look after little 'un without having a to work, heyt sacrifices! I was about 24st and evenings would be about TV and eating junk, my wife and I would be at each other's throats morning, noon and night. I would wake up at 2am and think that I hate myself and all it would take is a short walk to the local level-crossing and my problems sorted. The littlest thing would set us off. One day we had family get-together and we started at each at other, I walked out and instead of going home I took a walk along the local canal, well I waddled more like. I noticed the beauty of nature, the happy birds, fish, glinting water, grass, trees, etc. I got home and next day I happened to mention it to my Dad and he had an old Canon 350D with a couple of cheap lenses, said I could borrow it and give him £50 if I wanted it as he was having a clear out. That was it, I was hooked on landscapes. I went mental and would shoot pictures of anything I could find, i was absolute crap at it but anything I could I would shoot! About 3 years later my wife suddenly said to me, "You know we haven't had a single argument in almost 3 years, and you've lost about 4st in weight.". I couldn't believe it, i was so into the hobby and dragging my family everywhere and anywhere to see new places, we were all having so much fun that I never even noticed the huge improvements in my life. Gone were the dark thoughts, gone were the arguments, gone was the weight and in came life. Here I am 15 years later, I've been featured in LPOTY a few times, I'm a Getty contributor making a nice sum every month, I've written and published a book and I'm working on my second. My photography, still only a hobby remember, now takes me and my wife all over the UK now my daughter is at uni. My wife now owns her own business running the biz side of organising my image and book sales, she has learned web design and I do talks to camera clubs which she organises. Recently lost my mojo about a year ago, sold the kit while I took time out to clear my head, a month ago completely refresh my whole kit bag ( even a new kit bag! ) with a full spread of the latest Sony kit and I'm back out again every weekend and it's making the work-weeks fly by again.

After re-entering photography after a long layoff I looked at at what successful photographers like Martin Castein recommend, not what KZbinrs say. Now I make a good living from a kit that cost me less than $1000. Nikon D700, plus 35/50/85 f1.8 AF-D lenses. I have a Lumix GX85 with a 20mm f1.7 lens as a backup. Thats it. My subjects are people and fashion. Not landscapes. I have never been asked for a higher resolution image and the D lenses render beautifully...much better that new lenses. It not about ultimate sharpness, but colour, micro-contrast and dynamic range. I have no need to buy new stuff, because my kit is rugged, light and easily replaceable.
