I’d prefer 2 pt Takedown and 0 pt Escape. Getting off bottom is its own reward. Plus, then the Takedown and the Reversal are both both worth the same amount of points.
@jasonleech55342 сағат бұрын
reversal should also be worth 3 through its basically a take down from a worse starting position
@matthewlee86182 сағат бұрын
I wrestled in college a few years ago I hated how I could always take guys down in high school and then because of a bad ref giving weird stall calls while I was on top or neutral to try and make the match more fair because they are losing my takedown was devalued because bad refs could make horrible calls. I lost a state finals because of this while I had a broken foot. Terrible refs can’t affect matches as much you should not win a wrestling match or have it go to overtime because you got taken down and 2 escapes and a stall call lmao wtf

I love the 3 point takedown! I really enjoy your content Ben!
@brandongroth45695 сағат бұрын
I agree. Since the 3 point takedown, the number of overtimes has substantially decreased and the number of tech falls (even in college) have gone way up, which is good. It keeps tournaments moving along and respects everyone's time.
@justinflott51332 сағат бұрын
Wow I couldn’t disagree more with the second half of your comment. I hate how quickly some matches are over that shouldn’t be. Sometimes evenly matched wrestlers end of getting teched because of fluke takedowns to back (7pts) wrestling is a 3 position sport that should be equally valued in all positions

Will this have an adverse effect on the kids who don't excel right out of the gate?
@andrewkennedy-99124 сағат бұрын
There is not much worse adverse effect than getting taken down 14 times with the old system.

Was thinking something about the reversal points
@frankballswallet66936 сағат бұрын
I wonder if there were more majors with the three point takedown, it seems like there should be. If it's the third period with less than a minute left, and you need three points for a major, with the two point takedown you would need a takedown, let them up, another takedown, then a ride out. Now you only need a takedown and ride out. Similar to what Ben was saying about pushing for a tech.
@donaldnewell48686 сағат бұрын
Even in youth wrestling, it’s made tech falls way more common. My son is 13 (8th grader) and half his matches he wins by TF. It makes the kids hunt takedowns a lot more aggressively, people select neutral way more often to hit takedowns, etc. I’ve also noticed people who aren’t good at top riding, just release and go for takedowns. Overall, I like the results.
@matt66195 сағат бұрын
Good for the great kids, not as good for the average to below average kids. I can’t imagine it’s a good feeling getting teched all the time.

@ I’m super surprised Kasak took out Facundo. It’s hard for me to see how Facundo could beat Levi Hanes and lose to Kasak. I don’t think I factored in the weight cut implications enough. Also, I need to put more respect on Kasak’s name. That dude won’t stop surpassing my expectations.

Who do you have winning 149? I'm surprised that wasn't in your top 3, that feels like the biggest toss-up of the dual between two guys that could conceivably be wrestling Saturday night.

Akhmed Magomedovich Tazhudinov would be another HUGE debut. Beat Snyder and Sadulaev back to back aged 20 at the world championships, then coasted to gold there and took Olympic gold next year, apparently without breaking a sweat.

It's a shame that MMA and UFC specifically doesn't do more to help promote and support college wrestling. The sport has grown and benefitted so much from wrestlers, too many to even begin to list. You'd think they'd want to ensure that pipeline of talent continues by doing things to make sure the sport is healthy. I guess it makes sense that they don't do much considering they do almost everything to discourage fighters from wrestling to begin with at this point.
@e2go21 күн бұрын
Wrestling needs to make something other than the NCAA tournament matter to casual wrestling fans that want to follow the sport and support it but aren't interested in meaningless dual meets where they don't even know if the best wrestlers will show up. They basically tell everyone nothing matters until the very end. Dual meets have to matter somehow. No amount of fake hype or contrived, forced trash talk will make in-season events intriguing unless there are consequences for winning and losing and even wrestling the matches.
@sbenson9722 күн бұрын
No, you will not be able to simply “find raise for additional scholarships.” The NCAA is apparently giving “unlimited scholarships” to most individual programs, but it is coming out of a set number of OVERALL scholarships for all programs. It would be against the rules for programs to simply find raise and circumvent the rules. And NIL is apparently becoming highly regulated and to be used as it was intended. This means pay-for-play is over. Wrestling, and non-revenue men’s sports, are likely in big, big trouble.
@bruceshort885425 күн бұрын
They hopefully can appeal this. Schools will just drop wrestling.

Jesus Christ Kiyooka beat this kid 10-0 but because of the always thin 61kg bracket he’s the best in the world?!?! Ridiculous. 61kg has always been weak which is why we have gotten silvers and a gold out of it with fix and Vito recently. The best Russian at this weight moved up to 65kg to try and make the Olympic team. It was a three man bracket. The Russian was hurt, Vito said he literally trained for just a month and there was Ono. Ono is exciting no doubt about that but this is one of the dumber things Askren has said and he makes a living on dating dumb shit (it’s just usually not about wrestling).
