Dublin must've been a fine place to live for many, and a fine place to visit - on the other hand, my only exposure to the old Ireland was through Frank McCourt's "Angela's Ashes", and I don't know if I'd have enjoyed living there in the 1930s and 40s, if I wasn't of the moneyed class (admittedly, that was set in Limerick, not Dublin). Many who did live in Ireland at the time couldn't wait to leave, and did so as soon as they could. I do so love the music, I'd have to admit, and this song is one of my favorites.

Coburn (cockburn) is actually a Scottish and Northern English name. Coburn and Cobain are unrelated surnames. Cobain is a Irish name though.

It's no longer Dublin. It's not even Irish. It's completely overrun with junkies and invaders. The character of old Dublin is lost. Such a shame.

I find Irish stories like chchullann so disappointing. Nothing to emulate. Nothing to be proud of. Maybe cautionary tale of what not to be like. Just disappointing.
