My step dad got me this kit for as a birthday present when I was 10. It really felt like levelling up after doing 1:72 mainly Airfix kits until then. It went together like a dream by comparison, although I appreciate the limitations of the kit now I do fancy having another go at it. Great build and paint though, even though you don't rate this kit I think the older ones have something to offer.

Thank you for putting this up 3 years ago! This video has really helped me. I've always been too cautious to do my post shading with as much tonal difference as this... which I guess is why mine always look so dark and flat after weathering. Next project, I'm going to try this and go more extreme with the post shading and embrace the 'crapping your pants' moments. Also great to hear a fellow north eastern accent with it. Great job and thank you!

@@d1stortion thanks. 3 years ago. Wow. I really must post some new stuff. Haha. Also if you're feeling brave mix your colours alot lighter than you think. Like for dark green add yellow/buff to it. It'll be alot lighter and look weird but when you start to weather it and put washes etc on it darkens it back down closer to the original colour. I found that a game changer for me.

Not really. In fact that's what I do now. I post shade. I use the darkest base colour and then using the same wobbly technique build the colours getting lighter each pass. The way in the video is easier as it's just white then the base colour on top so it's great for beginners/people whove not tried the technique before. But I tend to not use it much. Ok? I should find another hobby because I was disappointed by a kit? It has obvious flaws and was at a pretty high price when I bought it. Comparable price wise with much better kits. It's a review, sorry it wasn't to your liking. Thanks

I hate to sound like the old guy scolding youngsters here, but really? Color call outs? When you have a personal info center (internet) in your home? You don't have to get up, go out to a public library to a book store and buy a book that also takes time and money.
@RedFiveScaleModels9 ай бұрын
The point of the video is the cost vs hassle. It's an expensive kit, or was at launch. Promises so much but fails. You shouldn't have to go and research the colours of wiring looms in a 109 cockpit to get it right. Also I guarantee that a decal sheet/printed PE or 3d decals would look far better on the majority of builders kits. Also not everyone wants to go to the far end of using a single hair to paint artificial horizons on dials in 1/35 that will bearly be seen. Aircraft kits of any kind of value should have dials and seatbelts in at least decal form. Not everyone out there will be as experienced as you or I so if someone spends their hard earned and find out basic things aren't in the box that's a problem. You're looking at this from your own personal POV. I'm looking at it on behalf of others not just myself. It's a review to advise people of the pitfalls. I have the ability, time and money to buy extra parts, paint individual dials etc. Not everyone does.
@angelohernandez60609 ай бұрын
@@RedFiveScaleModels Well, can understand that but if your spending that much on a kit it probably means you've built a few kits. Nobody buys an expensive kit right off. I like doing research on my projects I usually learn quite a bit more about the subject than before. It's never too late to learn. Your modeling history, why not learn while your having fun?
@angelohernandez60609 ай бұрын
I can understand the dead pilot complaint. Whoever came up with "Let's send them a dead pilot." idea was an idiot. And yes, it being an expensive kit and being limited should not mean you enter a lottery for the extra bits, another stupid idea. However, complaining about having to paint in dials is pretty nit-picky. As an old modeler I've had to paint them in alot in the early days since most the times kits didn't even come with decals for dials. If your skilled enough, painted in dials can look just as good if not better than decals. The problem with current kitbuilders is that they want shortcuts. They have no patience for learning a new skill and improving their building skills. It's hurting the hobby. Might as well buy pre-painted desk models! Where's the fun in that?

You have already discovered Border Model's big problem ... Really badly designed instructions. Plus they lack color painting guides for mist interiors... and just wait until you get to the colour options and discover the dichotomy between the decals and the options! ALWAYS triple check references and follow a good paint guide like Eduard's 1/48 109 kit or Revell's 1/32 kit instructions which cover that very well indeed.
