🎼 TABs & Sheet Music: payhip.com/b/NaKJ Hi everyone! Now this is quite an old video of mine of a beautiful song written by Amanda McBroom and famously performed by Bette Midler in the 1979 film "The Rose". Out of many renditions you might have also heard it in the end credits of Studio Ghibli film "Only Yesterday" :) (I've re-watched several Ghibli films this summer, that's why I remember :D) Anyway, a few years ago this one got removed from KZbin (quite a story ;)), so I've decided to re-upload it with the new mix. Hope you'll enjoy it, see you soon!

I think that many, if not all of us live this feeling with the good music that we grew up with…memories, happy and sad, they are all necessary in our lives. If we did not have the bitter, we could not know the sweet.

Hi everyone! This is the last video in my live beach recording series :) Here I am playing the very first version of my new guitar composition called "Waves" and as you've probably already guessed it is inspired by the sea and the sound of crushing waves :) Hope you'll enjoy this little postcard of the end of the summer :)

I truly enjoy listening to your videos because you have something in your playing that I find a lot of classical players lack. I hear quite a few classical guitarists who strive for perfect technique and who seem to gravitate to harder and harder pieces of music to play just because it allows them to show what they can do. But at the same time their playing seems to lack musicality and it can come across as too clinical. When you play, I hear the living heart of the piece you are playing,. And I feel like you have chosen the piece because it is beautiful and it moves you. Like this song. It has a simple beauty to it, and whenever Karen sang it she sang that beauty. And she made us as listeners feel that beauty. Your playing does that for me.

Wow! Beautiful! I don't know if you will ever read this comment, but if you do, I hope you can answer a few questions for me. I decided to make a real effort to learn fingerstyle guitar, and as a result, I purchased a Taylor Academy 12N. I like the look and feel of it, bit since then I have read a lot of comments online that because it is a "crossover" guitar with a smaller nut, that it is not really suitable for learning classical techniques on. There are also a lot of comments about how it is too "overbuilt" and that the tone is not really suitable. And yet, listening and watching you play it here, I have to say it sounds very good, and your technique doesn't seem to be hindered by the guitar in any way. I am drawn more towards the kind of repertoire that you have on your KZbin page: songs that are thoughtful, expressive, and include more popular and modern pieces. Would the Taylor Academy 12N be a hinderance to me from learning the techniques I would need to play pieces like the ones on your video page? Would it make more sense for me to replace the Taylor with a "proper" classical guitar? It would be wonderful if you could take the time to answer with your thoughts. Here's hoping you keep finding it easier and easier to return to your playing! ( . . . I have an ulterior motive in wishing this for you, as I have just become a subscriber and want to hear lots more from you!)

Hi Dennis! Thank you for your kind words! When we are comparing Taylor 12N to a traditional classical guitar there are two main differences. Firstly, traditional classical guitars have this massive, grand piano like bass, which is the trademark sound of the classical guitar. Taylor 12N' response is more similar to a steel-string acoustic guitar. And the second difference is indeed a narrow nut. Because of these features I think about Taylor 12N more as "an acoustic guitar with nylon strings" rather than classical guitar. Would any of this be hinderance to learning classical technique? I don't see how it could be. Switching between 48mm and 52mm nut might need getting used to, but I don't think it's a huge problem. Actually, for me the more important difference was the fact that Taylor 12N body is slightly bigger than a regular classical guitar and depending on individual anatomy this might be more or less comfortable. I'd say that "classical" playing has more to do a with particular approach to the tone and interpretation, rather than instrument construction. This might sound strange, but if we look back at the history of classical guitar we will see a very wide variety of instruments that were all called "guitar" and had more or less the same playing technique despite differences in construction and sound. If you find Taylor 12N comfortable to play then there is no reason not to learn on it. Again, thank you for your kind words and I hope this new journey will be fun and exciting for you!

@@DariaSemikina Thank you for your reply! I did become aware of the size difference in classical guitars throughout history, and have also become aware that like any human endeavour, classical guitar does have its share of what i would label as "dogmas", for lack of a better word. I will continue with the Taylor, as I do think it will be a good while yet before I reach a level where I can say that it is hindering me. And it does give me the opportunity to experiment with other styles and forms as well, such as blues and pop. One thing i am changing now are the strings. I don't like the sound or feel of the carbon strings it shipped with, and will be looking for a more "nylon" sound, if that makes any sense.

Hi everyone! Recently I went on a little vacation on the seashore. Reconnecting with nature was a rejuvenating and inspiring experience and I brought back home some new musical ideas :) I’ve managed to capture a couple videos on location as well. Let’s just say…it turned out to be far more difficult than I imagined, as I could neither see what I’m filming because of the bright sun nor hear what I’m playing because of the loud sound of crushing waves :D Nevertheless, the result turned out to be not too bad, so I’ve decided to share these musical memories with you. Here I am playing a fragment of my original composition “Sunset”. The video is fully live with the sound being captured by Zoom H1n portable recorder.

Thank you! Andrew York was one of my strongest influences when I was starting out on a classical guitar and looking for contemporary repertoire to play. I've played a lot of his music back in my college days and recorded several of his pieces later. I think I might record some more of his music later.
