Was wondering what are the benefits of upgrading to a 5500 from the 3500 was your camper too much for the 3500 axle
@thecumminscamperКүн бұрын
Thanks for the question! We were over the GVWR, aka designed weight, of our 3500 by a lot. The 3500 was designed to max out at 14k. We were 16k. We broke an axle shaft from being too heavy, my brakes were upgraded to Wilwood 6 piston brakes, still warped my rotors anyway. The 5500 is rated for 19k and we’re 18ish so legally compliant and not pushing the limits of the truck like we were doing with our 3500

Great video idea sharing all the down and dirty details. Some places you might want to look at working in Alaska would be Homer or Anchorage. Homer is super busy during tourist season but the camping there full-time could get tricky or expensive. Anchorage will give you more potential work options and is centrally located which is a benefit for going out and exploring on your days off. Not sure what the camping situation is in Anchorage. We slept in Cabela’s parking lot the few nights we were there. I would recommend a secure campsite or something removed from downtown Anchorage because there’s a lot of homeless drug addicts there. (Sidenote when in Anchorage, go to Moose tooth pizza 🫎🦷) Seward is a small town kind of in the middle of nowhere. Definitely not Valdez cruise ships go there. It’s really in the middle of BF nowhere and you have to go through Canada to get there. Which sucks because the customs and border agents can be bitches!
@AkDeluxeRider2 күн бұрын
The town of Talkeetna is pretty much a seasonal tourist trap with some bars/restaurants and if you like riding and fly fishing then it’ll be a better overall area. It’s not too far north that you couldn’t hit the Kenai Peninsula, plus there is an area your right could handle in Eureka, that would be overland and camping, no real work there. Also, you’ll have go to Valdez and the Denali Highway. Also, super close to Talkeetna is Hatcher Pass and you can boondocks out there and it’s amazing, lots of riding there too.

Jason and Mirisa, When on Maui you should check out the 2 sunset ocean side drum circles. one is at Baldwin Beach is just outside Paia on The Hana Highway around Specklesville it's on Fridays starting about 3:30 Its a great beach park even if the drum circle isn't your thing beautiful beach lots of turtles. The second drum Circle is on/near little beach on the south coast its Sundays about the same time, its past Keihe and real close to Big Beach/Makena. Both are very local but the people are cool and very mellow, just bring an aloha spirit and maybe a drink or something like that and I hate to say leave the cameras behind. Maui is my Jam and my favorite cousin owns a home very close to Lahaina, his home was spared but he was forced to move his tour business to Waikiki. My heart shattered when Lahaina burned. Have a blast in Maui I am really looking forward to the Vlogs!!!yt JimmyV/ KimoV

Stick to the beaches where you’re paying $10-15 a night and you won’t have any of the loud music. The price per night keeps the locals away and it’s all Americans and Canadians. That’s what this beach costs and consists of for people

Pretty cool Eric! What I would do is, first thing, after getting an RV is to install a roof rack made of some type of 80-20 aluminum, so I can play with different panels, antennas, starlink or so without drilling new holes on the roof everytime. Great job anyways. 5 months no rain where I live!
@thecumminscamper10 күн бұрын

Thanks for watching the video and commenting! I still need a different tune for the bigger turbo. The stock tune kinda stinks and so I’ve got some turbo lag. A heck of a lot of work mounting those babies. 👍🏼. Pat yourself on the back, as usual u do a good due diligent job 👏🏼. If u were an idiot I wouldn't be watching lol! Looks like u have the same crappy manual caulking gun as mine, had for like 20+yrs, bought another couple years ago that isn't a 'b' to squeeze, still manual but nite n day difference, my point, better control on oozing out the caulk cause u don't have to squeeze the handle so dang hard. Just guessing yours is a bit of a workout too. 🍻
@thecumminscamper16 күн бұрын
My caulking gun is barely working due to the number of times I decided to let gravity bring the caulk gun down to earth rather than carrying it. An 18v ryobie caulk gun is in my future. Great video bro. This definitely helps me out. We're starting the solar and lithium stage on ours. Really rooftop torn on the benefits of bi facial on a truck camper roof. I'm wanting to put 4 400w panels on a aluminum frame over my whole roof with 600ah at 24v. There's so much information out there and almost almost none of it is constant. Definitely easy to get confused 😆 I'll definitely check out those 400w panels. Thans again for another awesome video.

Thanks for watching! I’m interested in those 400w bifacial panels too. I’d like to replace the 480 that I have on my roof rack with two 400w panels and get ourselves to 1200w on the roof.
