No one else concerned about bacon 🥓 fat on battery 🔋 terminal,one spark🤯🤣. Maybe put a another piece of plywood inside ceiling to stop bacon fat drips or something. Hopefully battery terminals in different location from old one's so not get bacon 🥓 fat on terminal.

I’m shocked too that no one mentioned it. I agree! What I’ve done is put a plastic tub on top of the battery with an oil absorbent mat inside it to try and catch some of the bacon fat but as you see, it doesn’t work that well 🤣. Gotta clean it more frequently or try and do like you said with a piece of plywood above the battery. Appreciate the comment regarding safety.

08:21 Semi-retired welder-fabricator here. I tend to over-build, anticipating a worst-case. . I like gussets, bulk-heads, triangulation, plenty of sky-hooks. I like plenty of steel. . On the skoolie forum, a youngster asked about fabricating a battery-box using perforated angle pot-metal from the grocery store. Generally, I allow folks to learn at their pace. However, inside a vehicle, any flying bric-a-brac can impact others on the road, so I tried to discourage that engineering marvel. . Did I see you screw into particle-board [wrings worried hands]?

Some battery straps might help keep everyone else safer on the road. They’re pretty easy to add. They came in the other day so next time I’m in there, I’ll add them to the set up. I think it is just some cute particleboard under the battery. Not blaming the manufacture since they didn’t build that compartment for an 82lb battery buuuuut…that’s what was there so I’ve been using it. Some better plywood would be in order

07:18 We took our spec-sheet to MAC'S BATTERIES AND SOLAR in Eugene Oregon. They built our LiFePo4 24v bank for about us$2,600 in a lovely custom cabinet. . We have the equivalent of sixteen BattleBorn, plus our bank has BlueTooth so we can monitor its ins-n-outs.

That’s pretty amazing. Are 24v batteries typically the same size as their 12v counterparts? And all it takes is a 24 to 12v converter and then if you’re doing dc to dc charger you’ll need the converse?

I was just looking at the 300ah and 400ah batteries from that company. Definitely need an upgrade from our 200ah lithium battery

My dream would be two 400+ AH batteries so I can run my AC for a few hours comfortably. It’s super nice having 400 now and not worrying about if it’s going to be cloudy for a couple days in a row.

Oh heck, your chaos electrical compartment looks like everyone elses cause that's how the manufacturers do it! But then u had to go n tidy it up, just to be different eh 😂. Double the storage power nice! 🍻

Hahaha glad my electrical compartment looked similar to that of how the manufacturers do it. Makes me feel better about how things looked before. It’s nice to finally have my electrical compartment look presentable

Thanks bud! Definitely a heavy battery! I’m hoping to one day get two batteries of this size and put them into an exterior toolbox to get the weight lower and outside the camper. Appreciate you watching and commenting!

Very nice...You can still fit 2 Redodo batteries on that place, if they can be mounted sideways...820 amps!
@thecumminscamper
@thecumminscamper 3 ай бұрын
They can definitely be mounted sideways. I’d be worried about my compartment being too weak to support the 164lbs worth of two batteries in there. If I got a second Redodo I’d put them both in a toolbox outside and then do a video on that process. 820 amps would be amazing and obscene for our power needs. It would be cool to get ourselves to a point where we could run our ac on batteries and solar.

@@thecumminscamper I didn't think about the weight. Yes you are right. If you place them outside, make sure you hide them good otherwise people may try to steal it!

Have you felt how hot your dc dc charger gets after an hour or so on a cloudy day or night and having discharged down to 70%. I've got 400 AH and a Victron 30 Amp dc dc charger and it gets hot. Im considering a latger alternator and a second Victron dc dc charger in Paralell to reduce heat and demand on the single unit. You will only know how hot it gets if you check as stated. Otherwise, ain't LIFEPO great! Take care...

I haven’t put my hand on the dc to dc charger but I’d imagine it does get pretty warm. I can watch my dc to dc put out less power after the truck runs for a little while. I attribute that to it getting hot and dialing back the output. I’m hopeful that the dc to dc charger now being in the larger compartment that gets air inside of as we’re driving down the road might keep it cool for longer. I’ve heard the victron 30amp dc dc chargers are known for getting pretty hot. I wonder if their new 50amp dc to dc chargers have done a better job at dissipating heat. LIFEPO is the best! Having 410amp hours in such a small space without having to wire together multiple batteries is a thing of beauty. Thanks for watching and commenting! Be safe!

@CIT, Our ExpeditionVehicle has a Cummins 8.3, with plenty of torque to spin a different alternator. I removed the stock intermittent-duty 160A small-house, then installed a big-house 220A rated continuous-duty. . Our 24v bank charges and discharges with common appropriate DC-DC equipment. Any temperature above 'a coolish-warm' concerns me.
@CITAP1
@CITAP1 3 ай бұрын
@largemarge1603 There are plenty of folks who have a second 12 or 24 volt alternator setup on there engine, one for the vehicle, the other fully separated electrically from the vehicle to power the RV or Boat. 24 volt items being harder to find, often marine, but can be more efficient. Double the voltage, half the current. Victron has 24 volt products.
