THANK YOU I love this and I lost my mind when you mentioned the tongue situation, it's SUCH a thing. There’s also a really cool element that I think makes perfect sense for the context that they’re in, but is part of a dynamic that a lot of reactors are commenting on as teasing the audience: Guildford is SO respectful of her consent like the whole time. Doesn't pressure her into consummating the marriage and even stops himself in the middle of making out later because he's thinking about her macro desires as well, i.e. the divorce. But because they are obviously so attracted to each other, the will-they-won’t-they aspect is not quite like they completely dance around each other until they come together and then that’s it. Their version of that back and forth is that they have such great chemistry and they can't keep their hands or faces off each other. Their tension is that they keep starting stuff and then she keeps backing out of it mid-go. Because, totally true to the issues of the era, they can’t let it get too far and give into their lust because it would make it harder for the divorce to be executed later on, which makes perfect sense. So, like the first time they kiss in episode 3 that transitions directly to them in bed and like pretty much all the way undressed, in the throes, about to consummate, and then she’s like actually no. And while the audience can tell that he is very disappointed and borderline heartbroken over it, he stops immediately and absolutely doesn’t make it her problem. This kind of thing keeps happening over and over and over, every time they mutually start something, she stops it and he’s like, totally fine, whatever you want. And then their first time is not the serious, intense affair that most period slow burns are. They are like talking, laughing and giggling through it, they are super vulnerable with each other when she’s like I don’t know how to do this and he’s like no worries, I got you and he’s super sweet and very tender and like doesn’t do anything that she’s not super about. And they’re like very obviously having fun, which is cool to depict. AAAAnyway, the point is that the start/stop, back-and-forth that a lot of audiences have been annoyed about as like the show teasing us, I think is actually fantastic representation for like incredibly good consent dynamics. ESPECIALLY for a time period when her feelings wouldn’t generally really matter in the marital situation.

I can't leave without mentioning the magnificent film Ella Enchanted (2004) as one of the main inspirations for the show ❤. Although the cast specifically names A Knight's Tale, I love the silliness in both

Ughhhh right when I felt I was ready to move on from this PERFECT show I stumble upon your video. I binged the show right when it came out and haven't been able to read or watch anything else. I'm still so hungover on it and it's been over a month! I even made an IMDB account to rate and review it because the show runner said it will help get them renewed. I hope there won't be a need for any riots but my pitchfork is ready if we don't get a season 2!!!

I’ve seen this show 4 times. After the second rewatched I learned it was based on a book with the same title and I immediately ran to go read the book. I love both the book and the show immensely but they are very different from each other. The book includes perspectives from Jane, Guildford and Edward. The book has so many beautiful moments I wished they had included in the show but the show is hilarious and the chemistry between Jane and Guildford is unmatched. The only thing I don’t like about the book is that they call Guildford “Gifford” or “G” because I actually like the name Guildford. When I was reading the book I just called him Guildford anyways. I highly recommend the book but only after you watch the show because they are so different you’ll be mad at how they interpreted it.

@@lindseywritesstuff I am obsessed with this show, so much that I read the book afterwards. It is an easy read but I did not love it as much as the show. I think the book is just not aimed at my demographic 😂 it is a YA novel and I am 40, whereas the show is for adults, I even dare say it is for millenials because it has all the pride and prejudice, a Knights tale, Princess Bride references. The book tells a lovely story anyway and I think that we may get some stuff from it in the second (fingers crossed we get one) season, because the book does have a "proper" ending and the show is still open.

I can’t get past the whole turning into animals aspect…it completely throws me off and takes me out of it each time I watch. It’s a shame because this is usually the type of show I love, I just wish they hadn’t leant into the fantasy/magic idea. Great casting and writing though I must say :)
@samriddhigupta5514

its actually more of indirect interpretation of catholics vs protestants struggle during Tudor period as people turning into animals(Ethians) is more of a mutant feature like they show in X-Men and how they are discriminated against for apparently no reason, like Henry VIII separated from the catholic church just because he wanted a male heir(and married Anne Boleyn, a Protestant), but ended up creating more mess in england and reverted back to catholicism by the end of his life. and Mary being hurt by reformation movement, was trying to revert the country back to catholicism but by then there were too many protestants to control/kill, due to which she got infamous as Bloody Mary. Ethianism is an indirect allegory to Protestantism and the reason for Anne's execution in the show is given to her being ethian and bewitching Henry due to these powers, which means that Henry VIII was catholic from start to end which makes him a hypocrite in real life and in this show too. Also in the show he is also believed to be secretly Ethian who got the gene from his grandmother, Margaret Beaufort, who was shown as alive in the show due to her ethian powers.

@@Aurora-lp9sn well I just thought it was a bit light weight and ridiculously non historically accurate than Bridgeton being half historically accurate (well everyone can see a charlotte tilbury highlighter/shiny blush wand on Francesca btw) and the latest season being so heavy and dramatic. Also its kind of a fun take on Lady Jane Grey's story which in real life was really tragic and Guildford wasn't really much of a supportive husband(he was a stupid teenager), he was calling himself as king until Jane refused to make him king consort because King, the title itself is higher than the queen regnant title and therefore, if there is a queen regnant she must name her spouse as queen consort (which Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip were respectively). This kinda is the case in UK now.
