My boys used micro rods. I put 30lb hi Viz addicted line on them tho. It’s scary when you hook a big one. We would also use the little ice rods well on the boat. In the end we have all gotten little bigger rods now and run 9 footers. We run all size jigs even 4 and 6 oz from the boat. Crazy fun. My youngest caught a thick 24” ling and screamed dad I’m stuck im stuck then the line went for a run. He was running a small swim bait, you never know what you’re gonna hook lol. 5years old and he battled that dragon for 20 mins. But hey if you only got the tiny lake rod go get some tight lines 👍👍

Hi, just found you're channel. Looking for info for family in law, living in Vancouver, but who has little to none fishing experience. That a side. Why do you use such a long rod in your kayak? Would it not be easier to land fish when the rod is only 5 ft or less?

Isnt this going to flip over because of the position of the weight? Or does the zonker keep it swimming upright?

Where’s your descender? Total violation of the regulations.
@jasonevans54013 ай бұрын
Never rationalize your bad fishing habits with regulations or anecdotal assumptions on depths. I didn’t even mention your catch management when they leave the water. 🤦🏻♂️
@freemanfishing350Ай бұрын
I guess my older comment didn’t post properly, sorry. What I said was that I had a descender on me, just that I was fishing sub 50 foot water in this video, which doesnt meet the depth threshold for barotrauma. Also, my descender doesn’t have a setting that shallow, especially for where I’d be trying to drop it down directly beside shore. But I totally get what you’re saying. Loads of shore fishing spots in our area drop straight down into 100+ feet. If I was going to fish one of those spots, I would have done so.
@freemanfishing350Ай бұрын
@@jasonevans5401 I wasn’t assuming the depth, this is an area I know well. I can show you a depth map of the exact spot from this video if you want. If you look out at those islands just off shore where I was fishing, in between there and the shore I was fishing from there is a huge underwater shelf that doesn't go deeper than 50 feet besides during the highest tides. And theres no need to be snide man. If you can point out to me some way I improperly handled the fish I’d be happy to make sure I do it correctly in the future. I got them back into the water quickly, which is more than some people bother with. Besides falling a foot or two through open air until they hit the water, I don’t see anything bad about it. But again, if im missing something, please tell me. I do care about the wellbeing of the fish after release, not just whether I can get away without putting effort in.

What are your thoughts on using an 8ft ul for this method?? My contention is that the longer rod gives you more reach to fish runs close to far while keeping the most line off the water as possible to be in better contact with the jig. It also makes getting the jig into pocket water behind bolders a little easier. I fish the Truckee and other freestone rivers in NV and CA and pocket water is plenty and as I'm sure you know holds plenty of trout. My setup is exactly like yours with the exception of the extra foot of rod. I also run a low vis green braid on my spool and on the end I'll tie about 4ft of ghost white then another 4ft or so of the green then my sectiont of flouro to the jig in a length depending on average depth of the section I'm fishing. The white section gives me somthing to look at contrasted with the green to see all those stops and twitches. Its sortof adapting things I use in my euro nymphing setup when I'm fly fishing. Just thought I'd compare some notes with you. I enjoy the videos!!! Keep it up.
