I understand that every country may do things slightly different but that looked like it was being done the hardest way possible. That screed rail setup took so much extra work with very little benefit. Just my thoughts
@redlinemanu2 күн бұрын
It actually sets up very fast and we like the screed rail because it allows us to use our roller screed and makes it so we can't dig below grade or leave humps. What country do you pour concrete in?
@jordandouvartzidis17452 күн бұрын
@@redlinemanu iv used the rail setup on different jobs before but see no value in them, I guess when you’ve learnt to do things the “traditional” way and believe that to be the best then these other methods seem strange. I’m in Australia, 90% of concrete is screeded by hand, we also just have one person on one screed. You guys in the states have so many more concreting machines and tools then we do though, iv been watching American Concretors on KZbin for years and it’s mind blowing some of the stuff you have over there.
@redlinemanu2 күн бұрын
@jordandouvartzidis1745 yeah there are lots of great concreters down under. Seen some good hard workers there. In the US we try to us machines as much as possible but almost every job requires some hand screeding

Hand rodding would be faster, though a little harder on the back and I never liked how the roller would fling cream back on the finished surface. If this is an advertisement it's funny that you have a Bunyan handle and tube ends on the roller :)
@redlinemanu10 күн бұрын
We like the Bunyan, that was one of the first, our homemade one is a Frankenstein screed with different parts. We find the roller screed to be faster and when the mud shoots over the type we will just go back and screed it again

People don't like innovation. I've worked on high rise construction for over a decade and been in dozens and dozens of pours and nobody likes to be told how to pour easier or faster. They'd rather kill their guys and "tough it out". Btw, no roller screed in high rise construction in Los Angeles. I saw them years ago. Nothing new, but people are hard headed and stuck in their ways

My father in-law did it this way 27 years ago. I can level a driveway without getting out of my skid steer and get within 1/2". The time saved pays for the extra concrete and I always use extra concrete. When you screed it at 3.5" and pack your still going to be shy on 4" concrete. I can't even count how many driveways I pulled out where customers said they were 4" and average was 3.5". If anyone rips out my driveway they will always be a bit over then under.
@dbconstruction89043 ай бұрын
Agree.. I can grade a driveway to within 1/4 to 1/2” with the track loader in no time just having the guys checking heights with a string line. On flat grades with a laser we don’t even touch a cummy or shovel anymore.
@redlinemanu3 ай бұрын
@dbconstruction8904 we like to get it right on because a 1/2" low over 1000 Sq ft is an extra yard and a half thrown away, which could be an extra 200 to 250 bucks. Depending on how much you pour per year, you could be throwing tens of thousands of dollars away.

Nobody pours curb at a 1" slump. Takes too long to place and its difficult to close up in form without massive amounts of honeycomb. Pour a 5" slump, fast, with 2° accelerator and we finish 3 - 9 yard loads a day of curb....every day.

Roller screeds are great for small jobs like these. You can use laser screeds on sloped concrete, as long as it's flat, not level, flat. You can also laser screed compound pitched with 3D system. I just purchased 2nd Ligchine Screedsaver Elite. 35,000 sf per day with FF 75 FL 70. Can't do that with Roller screeds.

If you have a competent crew, it is much faster and easier to set wet pads with a laser and either screed from pad to pad, or pad to form. There is nothing to set up and remove and you can be flat to within 1/8" no problem. Part of the issue is you show a bunch of videos of people trying to screed low slump concrete. With modern water reducers, there is no need for that, especially for flatwork. Also a modern vibratory screed with a large triangular profile does not sink into the concrete.

Well, I am sort of retired. Working for City of Daytona Beach now. So, a big day is 2 or 3 trucks. A body gets old (55)and you need retirement and insurance. The majority of what I we did was residential and light commercial. Parking lots, warehouse buildings. We averaged about 90k yrds a year. An average day was 4 to 6 foundatioms and driveways. Seen a lot of big parking lots. Seen plenty of big super flats also. But, that was then.
@redlinemanu6 ай бұрын
That's understandable, yeah concrete can cripple the body. Thats a big reason why we like using machines is so we can save our bodies as much as possible. Every pour is different and places you pour at as well because of weather and what not.

Well, on my humble opinion anyone who needs a chair system to screed has no business in the business. And, 🤔 everywhere that you pull those rods and then just bullfloat over the joint will result in a crack along that line. Period, end of discussion.
@redlinemanu6 ай бұрын
The chairs sit below the mud, also the mud is still wet enough that when we pull the rail out and bull float it, the mud seals together. We like the rails because it guarantees that you can't dig below grade. Gives you a flatter finish.

Anyway, you are write. I was being a bit of a jackass. Thing is🤔 I am from florida. And, I have seen every possible attempt at screed pipes, screed rails, rods, chairs, etc. etc. etc. And, inevitably. You get a clod joint, bad service, rain. 🌀 Hurricane. Yes, those too. And then it is pure hell with those systems. Now, dont get me wrong. I love a laser screed. Cant stand cat screeds. Never found one light enough to want to tote around all day and still be able to get thru the tuff stuff. And, the mud has to be right on or they just level it all out and it is high. So, just old school fold yourself in half and go😂🌈🌞🇺🇸 Also, those systems dictate the width of the pour(i.e. cat screed)And if you have a chopped up floor it really does not make things quicker, not to mention all the added setup.
