Thanks for posting this video. I have a optimate 4 quad program, recently bought, connected to the can-bus port on my 2024 gs1300, because I am storing the bike for the winter. I have selected program 4. The battery charges up nicely and it reaches a good SOH with LED #6 eventually lighting up. But then after a while, both LED #6&7 light up, which I understand means that the battery charge is dropping. Why is it doing that? Shouldn’t led #6 just stay on? Thanks.
@OptiMate6 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question! It’s great to hear that your OptiMate 4 Quad Program is working well to charge your GS1300’s LFP battery via the CAN-bus port. However, for winter storage, we recommend connecting directly to the battery using the O-01 battery lead and selecting Program 3 - LFP (LiFePO4). The CAN-bus system can sometimes disconnect the charging circuit, causing the charger to sense a voltage drop and light up LED #7 alongside LED #6. By connecting directly to the battery, the charger can maintain a consistent charge and keep your battery in top condition all winter long. If you’d like help setting up direct charging, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to assist!

@ thank you so much for your detailed response. I have to tell you that I ended up contacting Ted-Mate North America (a link on the OptiMate website) and they responded as follows (I copy and paste their response): When connecting to the battery through the 12V socket it charges the battery up and then monitors the battery. In other words, it does not maintain the Lithium battery as the motorcycle's system is set up for that as a Lithium battery should not be continuously maintained. The bike's system has a parasitic draw to keep the system going 24-7, that's why it loses charge when parked. The charger monitors hourly and checks voltage and if the charge level has dropped below 90% it charges the battery up again and goes back to monitoring. Now the #6 and 7 lights may turn on if during the hourly check it sees the battery has dropped below 80% (13.22V), but it will then initiate charging. So, you may on occasion see lights 6 and 7 on together and then an hour or so after replaced with 6 alone, that is normal. If 6 remains on for longer at a time it may mean the battery may have needed some mild reconditioning (cell equalization) and now it's holding charge better. Unlike a lead-acid battery, a lithium battery does not need to be kept at 100% all the time, but should not be discharged below 30% (13V resting / no load).
@OptiMate5 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing TecMate North America's response! Their explanation aligns well with how the OptiMate 4 Quad Program is designed to interact with lithium batteries via the CAN-bus system. It’s great to hear that they clarified the periodic monitoring and charging behavior, as this is indeed how the charger optimally maintains a LiFePO4 battery without overcharging or keeping it at 100% unnecessarily, which is critical for lithium battery health. The additional details about lights 6 and 7 during the monitoring process are also spot-on. It’s reassuring to know that these indicators reflect the charger doing its job properly by assessing the battery and rebalancing as needed. If you have any further questions or concerns about your setup or battery maintenance, don’t hesitate to ask. I’m here to help!

@OptiMate14 күн бұрын
Great question! 😊 The OptiMate 4 Quad Program comes with a cable that ends in an SAE connector, so if your motorcycle has an SAE plug under the seat connected to the battery, you can easily plug the charger directly into it. For the charging program, select Program 1 for lead-acid batteries or Program 3 for LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries, depending on your battery type. If you're unsure about your battery type, feel free to let us know and we’ll help you out! 👍

The BMW R1300GS motorcycle manual tells it's Li-ion battery, while Optimate4 quad programs manual tells "automatic battery charger for 12V Lead-Acid & 12.8V for LiFePO4 batteries", and recommends don't use for "any other types of Li-Ion or non-rechargeable batteries" I'm not sure I bought correct charger
@OptiMate19 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question! The OptiMate 4 Quad Program is designed for 12V lead-acid batteries and 12.8V LiFePO4 batteries. If your BMW R1300GS uses a LiFePO4 battery, the OptiMate 4 Quad Program is compatible. Battery manufacturers often use different terms to describe LiFePO4 batteries, such as LiFe, Lithium, Lithium-ion, Lithium Iron Phosphate, etc. Li-ion is a general term that includes several types of lithium batteries, including LiFePO4. If your battery matches this description, you’ve got the correct charger! If you’re still unsure, feel free to share your battery details, and we’ll be happy to assist further.

The R1300GS hand book tells you not to connect a charging ‘fly lead’ directly across the battery for charging. It needs totally disconnecting from the bike to charge this way.
@OptiMate21 күн бұрын
BMW does recommend not charging directly to the battery as they do not know what type of charger you may be using. Some chargers may output high voltage at high current. Recovering & charging and 24-7 maintenance through the fitted battery lead / harness is safe with OptiMate 4. BMW also says in the manual: On-board electronics draining connected battery: Battery is deep discharged; this voids the guarantee (battery warranty). Ultimately BMW want you to call your dealer if there are any issues, but if you want or need to solve it yourself: the bike’s system will not turn on if your battery is deep discharged below 8V which means you cannot charge it through the 12V socket. The Lithium battery also turns itself off. Fitting battery lead / harness allows you to recover the battery directly until the system will once again turn on. Alternatively, you need to disconnect the battery (as explained in the manual), recover the battery, and then reconnect. Battery disconnection and reconnection is well explained in the manual.

@@OptiMate I don't understand the value of connecting directly to the LifeP04 battery, with the bike terminals still connected. If the charger is sending voltage to the battery in this type of configuration, isn't it also sending voltage to the BMW R1300GS, thus turning the system on, just as if the charger was connected to the DIN socket? Second question, I didn't understand how connecting through the DIN socket for months at a time is a bad thing. So what if the bike's system turns on every time the Optimate 4 Quad is checking things every hour, what is the harm in that?
@OptiMate6 күн бұрын
Thank you for your insightful questions! Let’s address both parts: 1️⃣ Battery and CAN-bus in the BMW R1300GS You are correct that the battery in the BMW R1300GS is integrated into the CAN-bus system, which manages various power-related components of the bike. When using the 12V socket, charging through the CAN-bus involves a two-step process: Step 1: The charger sends a ‘handshake’ pulse to the motorcycle, which should activate the socket for one minute. Step 2: The charger delivers the charge, and the bike verifies that the charge received is below its maximum current level and that the voltage is acceptable (below 14.5V). If both conditions are met, the system will keep the socket on and continue charging. However, if the bike doesn’t respond during the handshake phase or the socket doesn’t stay on, this could indicate a software issue with the motorcycle. It’s recommended to have the software updated, which often resolves the issue. 2️⃣ Why Connecting Directly to the Battery is Better for Long-Term Charging For consistent and uninterrupted charging, we recommend connecting directly to the battery with the O-01 lead. This bypasses the CAN-bus system and ensures a stable, continuous charge. When charging via the 12V socket, there is the potential for the system to turn on and off, especially if the handshake doesn’t happen correctly, causing intermittent charging and slight battery drain. By connecting directly to the battery, the charger will maintain a consistent charge and provide optimal care for your battery, especially for winter storage. If you have any more questions or need help setting up direct charging, we’re here to assist!

Hi there! I’ve connected the Optimate 4 quad, via can bus (program 2), to my RT 1250. Bike is stopped for a month now, so some discharge should have happened. The led number 5 is on from the very beginning and nothing changed even after an hour. Is that ok?. I switched to the optimate 4 dual, also can bus, and immediately started charching by the 0,2 amps led indicator. So I don’t really get it. Looking forward to your reply! Much obliged.
@OptiMate26 күн бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details. When connected via CAN-bus in program 2, the OptiMate 4 Quad should start charging if the battery’s state of charge is below the optimal level. The LED #5 lighting up immediately suggests the battery is already fully charged or very close to full. This is normal behavior for a battery in good health that's been maintained well. That said, the difference in behavior between the Quad and Dual version is curious. Here are a few things to check: Battery State of Charge: If LED #5 lights up right away, it indicates the Quad detected the battery is already charged. Connection via CAN-bus: Ensure the DIN socket is working correctly and the CAN-bus system recognizes the Quad charger. Switching chargers: When you switched to the Dual, it may have started charging because of slight variations in how the two chargers operate. The Dual might have detected a marginal drop and initiated charging, but this doesn't mean the Quad is malfunctioning. If you’d like, you can try the following for confirmation: Disconnect the Quad, then reconnect it to the CAN-bus port and observe if it goes through its diagnostic steps before settling on LED #5. Alternatively, try program 1 by connecting directly to the battery to see if the behavior is the same. Feel free to share what you observe or let us know if you have further concerns. We’re here to help! 😊

@OptiMate thank you for your reply! I did the following which I hope it was not a mistake : I've connected the optional cable directly to the battery but with the battery still on the motorcycle. After that started in the O4 quad in program 1. It did went directly with led 5 and after a few hours did went to green led showing that the battery is in perfect state. Now my other question is : I hope to God the charger did not went on to the desulfate mode while the the connection this way?!?🤔. In the manual it says that if the charger connected directly, but if it detects circuitry it will not activate desulfate mode. Is that correct? Looking forward to your reply! Thank you again for your help!
@OptiMate21 күн бұрын
You're very welcome! 😊 It’s great to hear your battery reached the green LED, confirming it’s in great shape! To address your concern: According to the manual, if vehicle circuitry is detected, the charger limits the charge voltage to 14.5V. This ensures the safety of your motorcycle’s electronics. In this case, desulfation mode will not activate. However, when no vehicle circuitry is detected, the charger may briefly raise the voltage up to 22V to address sulfation within the battery. Once the battery is sufficiently recovered, the charger proceeds automatically to step 6 (standard charging). Since your setup included the battery still connected to the motorcycle, the charger would have detected the vehicle circuitry and limited the voltage accordingly. You're all good! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

My lamp 4 has stay’d lite up for couple weeks now. I’ve tried resetting the charger by disconnecting and unplugging but it eventually returns to steady lamp 4 yellow. I understand this is a rebalance phase. Is it common to take weeks or more to move thru this stage?
@JaridLacroixАй бұрын
FYI it’s a deep cycle RV battery. Only couple years old.
@OptiMate6 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question! It sounds like your OptiMate is in the charge phase (Lamp 4), and it’s staying on for an extended period. While it’s normal for the charger to stay in this phase as it fully charges the battery, deep-cycle RV batteries can sometimes take longer to charge, especially if they have been significantly discharged. However, the OptiMate 3's 0.8A charging rate may not be sufficient for a deep-cycle RV battery, and this could be why the charger is taking so long to complete the charge cycle. For deep-cycle RV batteries, we recommend the OptiMate 7 12V/24V (optimate1.com/product/om7-1224v/), which is better suited for these types of batteries, providing a higher charging current and advanced charging phases to ensure proper recovery and maintenance. If you'd like more info or have further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!

How do I know which battery is installed if I just want to charge via DIN..2016 1200 GS
@OptiMateАй бұрын
Thank you for your question! For your 2016 BMW R 1200 GS, it’s most likely equipped with a 12V lead-acid battery (AGM or GEL), as these were standard for that model year. However, to be absolutely sure, it’s always a good idea to check the battery itself or consult your bike’s manual. If your bike does have a lead-acid battery and you’re charging via the DIN socket, you’ll want to use Program 2 (CAN-bus lead-acid program) on the OptiMate 4 Quad Program.

I've just bought the premium and I'm totally lost. I know nothing about batteries, I've no idea if my r1200rs has canbus, and my battery doesn't even say what it is? Can't you design a front panel that's easier to decipher? Perhaps show P1,P2,P3 & P4 lights with a simple to read row of lights showing red thru green? Also a fail safe where if the wrong mode is selected and connected, the device will just show an error message?
@OptiMateАй бұрын
Thank you for your feedback and for choosing the OptiMate 4 Quad Program! 🙏 We understand how it can feel overwhelming at first, especially with modern bikes like your R1200RS that may have features like CAN-bus systems and different battery types. Let’s break it down to make things simpler for you: 1. Checking CAN-bus compatibility: BMW’s R1200RS is typically equipped with a CAN-bus system. If you’re charging through the DIN port, you’ll want to use Program 2 (for lead-acid batteries) or Program 4 (for lithium batteries), depending on your battery type. 2. Identifying your battery type: If your battery doesn’t have a clear label, it’s likely a lead-acid AGM or GEL battery, as these are common on BMWs. If in doubt, your local dealership or service center can confirm for you. 3. Using the charger safely: The OptiMate 4 Quad Program is designed to be safe even if the wrong program is selected. Although there is no error message system indicating that a different program should be selected, the charger will not damage your battery: it will simply stop charging or charging will not even start. 4. Simplified display idea: Your suggestion about a redesigned front panel is excellent, and we’ll pass it along to our development team! We’re always looking to make our chargers even more user-friendly. Finally, we’re here to help! If you’d like assistance with setting up your charger or confirming your battery type, feel free to reach out to us directly. We’re happy to guide you step-by-step. 😊

@OptiMateАй бұрын
Hi! We recommend that you use program 3 of our OptiMate 4 Quad Program for your BMW M Lightweight battery with lithium-ion technology and connect the charger directly to the battery using our O-01 battery cable, as you intend leave the charger connected to the battery for several months. Program 3 also has a Low Volt Recovery step, so if your lithium battery needs saving, Program 3 is the right program.
@charlieleecАй бұрын
@ can it be attached to any ports under the seat for shorter charging periods?
@OptiMateАй бұрын
Yes, you should be able to connect the OptiMate to the battery through a charging port under the seat, as long as it’s directly connected to the battery or suitable for charging. If the port under the seat is CAN-bus controlled, as is common with BMW models, you'll want to use program 4 on your OptiMate 4 Quad Program for your BMW M Lightweight battery with lithium-ion technology. This program is specifically designed to work with CAN-bus systems, allowing the charger to communicate with your bike’s electronics and maintain the battery effectively. For shorter charging periods through this port, it’s perfectly fine as long as you’re using program 4. For longer-term maintenance, though, you might want to consider using program 3 and connecting directly to the battery using an OptiMate battery lead (O-01) to bypass the CAN-bus system entirely and choose program 3. Let us know if you have any other questions or need tips! Happy to help keep your M 1000 R ready to ride!

@OptiMateАй бұрын
Hi! If LED #2 is blinking / flashing on your OptiMate 2 DUO Quad bank you need to have the battery professionally assessed. Do not attempt to charge again. This is especially important for lithium (LiFePO4) batteries as one of the cells might be permanently damaged and continued charging of a damaged battery could cause it to overheat.

Hi! The OptiMate 4 Quad Program is designed to maintain a battery continuously (24-7); it can be safely left connected to a healthy battery for months at a time. We recommend to, at least once every two weeks, to check that the connections between the charger and battery are secure. In the case of lead-acid batteries with filler caps on each cell, disconnect the battery from the charger, check the level of the electrolyte and if necessary, top up the cells (with distilled water, NOT acid), then reconnect.

Thank you for your question! You can synchronize the carburetors on a three-cylinder outboard engine using the CarbMate, but you’ll need the TS220 - 2 > 4 cylinder adapter (tecmate.com/carbmate/). This adapter is essential for comparing and synchronizing all three carburetors (or throttle valves) since it allows the CarbMate to connect to multiple cylinders at once. For the synchronization process: First, connect the adapter to the CarbMate. Then, compare and synchronize carb 1 and carb 2, followed by carb 3. If accessing the manifold ports is tricky, you might find our TS200 (M5) or TS201 (M6) flexi-rigid manifold adapters helpful for easier connection. Let us know if you need additional guidance or have further questions. We’re happy to help! 😊

This will be fine for 2019 BMW r nineT, correct?
@OptiMate2 ай бұрын
Yes, the OptiMate 4 Quad Program is suitable for your 2019 BMW R nineT. Since many BMW models, including the R nineT, use a CAN-bus system, we recommend using program 2 (if you have a lead-acid battery) and program 4 (if you have a lithium battery), these programs are specifically designed for CAN-bus controlled sockets. However, for long-term maintenance, it's ideal to connect directly to the battery using our O-01 battery lead and program 1 (for lead-acid batteries) or program 3 (for lithium batteries). If you're unsure or need any help, feel free to ask-we’re happy to assist!

@@OptiMate Great thank you. It says I have an AGM battery. So does AGM mean Lithium? And, is it necessary to disconnect the battery at any point to charge or just use the leads and leave everything on the bike for long term storage of 3 months?
@OptiMateАй бұрын
Hi! An AGM battery is not a lithium battery, but a lead-acid battery. For long-term maintenance charging for your AGM battery, we recommend that you use program 1, which is designed for direct charging of lead-acid batteries (AGM). This ensures the best charging performance and long-term maintenance. To get the most out of your OptiMate 4 Quad Program, we recommend connecting directly to the battery using the OptiMate O-01 battery cable. The OptiMate 4 Quad Program is designed to maintain a battery continuously (24-7); it can be safely left connected to a healthy battery for months at a time. We recommend to, at least once every two weeks, to check that the connections between the charger and battery are secure.

I just bought one and connected it up. I didnt select a mode, it seemed to automatically detect the battery type as pb and started its cycle. Hopefully thats ok?? It seems really well built with robust connectors. Looks good

Thank you for your feedback, and we're glad to hear you're happy with the build quality of your OptiMate 4 Quad Program! To ensure the best charging performance, we recommend selecting the appropriate charge program before connecting the charger to the battery. The unit may have defaulted to the Pb (lead-acid) program, but it's always a good idea to manually verify and select the correct program for your battery type. Please consult the manual for detailed instructions, or feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We're here to help!

My bike has same one input. For charging and bike usage input. What will I do ?
@OptiMate2 ай бұрын
If your bike has a single input for both charging and powering the bike, you’ll need to ensure that the bike is turned off when using the OptiMate Solar DUO for charging. This prevents power conflicts and ensures that the battery charges properly. It’s also important to charge the bike when parked and in a safe, sunny location. Let us know if you need any further clarification or assistance!

Can be charging when am driving?
@OptiMate2 ай бұрын
We don’t recommend using the OptiMate Solar DUO while driving. It's risky, as the solar panel could come loose and create a dangerous situation. For the best and safest results, we suggest charging when the vehicle is parked in a stable, sunlit area. Safety first - let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi! The OptiMate 4 Quad Program is an excellent choice for maintaining and charging motorcycle batteries, as it delivers 1.25 amps, which is ideal for smaller batteries. While it can technically charge smaller car batteries, it may take longer than our higher-amp chargers designed specifically for cars. @OptiMateАй бұрын
Our lithium charger should work with your 2021 CRF450R, but let’s troubleshoot a few things. First, confirm that the battery is indeed a lithium type and ensure the charger is securely connected directly to the battery terminals. If it still doesn’t work, please let us know more details or reach out to our support team (optimate1.com/contact/) - we’re here to help get you up and running!

Does not work. All it does is switch between 6V and 12V completely ignoring the touch button..
@OptiMateАй бұрын
Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear you’re having trouble! To select the correct voltage on the OptiMate 5 6V/12V (Select), please follow these steps: Disconnect the charger from the battery before making any changes. Press and release the touch button to switch between 6V and 12V mode. When you release the button, the LEDs for SAVE (#3), CHARGE (#4), and TEST (#5 & 6) should flash twice to confirm the selection is saved. After the voltage is selected, reconnect the charger to your battery to begin charging. If the button still isn’t responding or if you need any further help, please let us know - we’re here to assist!

Well,, i thougt you have to connect the clamps to the battery first, SAE connector already connected to the optimate and than plug it in to the wall outlet? That is the first step in the optimate manual? So you can leave your optimate connected to the wall outlet and just plug the SEA connecters together without getting sparks?
@OptiMate2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! You're correct that the OptiMate manual suggests connecting the clamps and charger to the battery first, then plugging into the wall outlet. This is a safe approach and minimizes any chance of sparking. In our video, while we connected the charger to the battery while the charger was still connected to AC power, there is no risk of sparks in this case. This is because our chargers are designed with built-in safety features to prevent sparking when connecting or disconnecting from the battery while plugged into AC power. That said, for the safest practice, we typically recommend following this sequence: Install the cables (O-01 battery lead or O-04 battery clamps) onto the battery first. Connect the charger to the battery via the installed cable. Finally, connect the charger to AC power. Thanks again for watching, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!

For your AGM battery on the Kymco AK550, we recommend using Program 1, which is designed for directly charging lead-acid (AGM) batteries. This will provide the best charging performance and long-term maintenance. To get the most out of your OptiMate 4 Quad Program, we suggest connecting directly to the battery using the OptiMate O-01 battery lead.

@OptiMate I have question about OptiMate 4 Dual Program or any other of your product. In my garage I have limit to plug devices with no more than 2A, 440W. Will your charger work without burning electrical cables in our garages during winter time (talking about motorcycle)? Thank you
@OptiMate2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question! The OptiMate 4 Dual Program is ideal for charging AGM, GEL, and standard 12V batteries from 3-50Ah, and it operates with a charging current of 1A. Its maximum power draw is well within your garage’s limit, using only about 0.25A from the AC supply, which is far below the 2A, 440W limit you mentioned. The charger is fully automatic and works in a 9-step process to safely charge and maintain your battery without risk of overloading electrical cables. You can confidently use the OptiMate 4 Dual Program in your garage, even during winter, without concern. In general, all our motorcycle chargers from our current range remain well below the 2A limit you mentioned. Whether it is the OptiMate 1 DUO, the OptiMate 3 or our new OptiMate 4 Quad Program (replaces the OptiMate 4 Dual Program). Feel free to reach out with any more questions, and thank you for choosing OptiMate!
