I've just bought the premium and I'm totally lost. I know nothing about batteries, I've no idea if my r1200rs has canbus, and my battery doesn't even say what it is? Can't you design a front panel that's easier to decipher? Perhaps show P1,P2,P3 & P4 lights with a simple to read row of lights showing red thru green? Also a fail safe where if the wrong mode is selected and connected, the device will just show an error message?

Thank you for your feedback and for choosing the OptiMate 4 Quad Program! 🙏 We understand how it can feel overwhelming at first, especially with modern bikes like your R1200RS that may have features like CAN-bus systems and different battery types. Let’s break it down to make things simpler for you: 1. Checking CAN-bus compatibility: BMW’s R1200RS is typically equipped with a CAN-bus system. If you’re charging through the DIN port, you’ll want to use Program 2 (for lead-acid batteries) or Program 4 (for lithium batteries), depending on your battery type. 2. Identifying your battery type: If your battery doesn’t have a clear label, it’s likely a lead-acid AGM or GEL battery, as these are common on BMWs. If in doubt, your local dealership or service center can confirm for you. 3. Using the charger safely: The OptiMate 4 Quad Program is designed to be safe even if the wrong program is selected. Although there is no error message system indicating that a different program should be selected, the charger will not damage your battery: it will simply stop charging or charging will not even start. 4. Simplified display idea: Your suggestion about a redesigned front panel is excellent, and we’ll pass it along to our development team! We’re always looking to make our chargers even more user-friendly. Finally, we’re here to help! If you’d like assistance with setting up your charger or confirming your battery type, feel free to reach out to us directly. We’re happy to guide you step-by-step. 😊

Hi there! I’ve connected the Optimate 4 quad, via can bus (program 2), to my RT 1250. Bike is stopped for a month now, so some discharge should have happened. The led number 5 is on from the very beginning and nothing changed even after an hour. Is that ok?. I switched to the optimate 4 dual, also can bus, and immediately started charching by the 0,2 amps led indicator. So I don’t really get it. Looking forward to your reply! Much obliged.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details. When connected via CAN-bus in program 2, the OptiMate 4 Quad should start charging if the battery’s state of charge is below the optimal level. The LED #5 lighting up immediately suggests the battery is already fully charged or very close to full. This is normal behavior for a battery in good health that's been maintained well. That said, the difference in behavior between the Quad and Dual version is curious. Here are a few things to check: Battery State of Charge: If LED #5 lights up right away, it indicates the Quad detected the battery is already charged. Connection via CAN-bus: Ensure the DIN socket is working correctly and the CAN-bus system recognizes the Quad charger. Switching chargers: When you switched to the Dual, it may have started charging because of slight variations in how the two chargers operate. The Dual might have detected a marginal drop and initiated charging, but this doesn't mean the Quad is malfunctioning. If you’d like, you can try the following for confirmation: Disconnect the Quad, then reconnect it to the CAN-bus port and observe if it goes through its diagnostic steps before settling on LED #5. Alternatively, try program 1 by connecting directly to the battery to see if the behavior is the same. Feel free to share what you observe or let us know if you have further concerns. We’re here to help! 😊

@OptiMate thank you for your reply! I did the following which I hope it was not a mistake : I've connected the optional cable directly to the battery but with the battery still on the motorcycle. After that started in the O4 quad in program 1. It did went directly with led 5 and after a few hours did went to green led showing that the battery is in perfect state. Now my other question is : I hope to God the charger did not went on to the desulfate mode while the the connection this way?!?🤔. In the manual it says that if the charger connected directly, but if it detects circuitry it will not activate desulfate mode. Is that correct? Looking forward to your reply! Thank you again for your help!
@OptiMate22 күн бұрын
You're very welcome! 😊 It’s great to hear your battery reached the green LED, confirming it’s in great shape! To address your concern: According to the manual, if vehicle circuitry is detected, the charger limits the charge voltage to 14.5V. This ensures the safety of your motorcycle’s electronics. In this case, desulfation mode will not activate. However, when no vehicle circuitry is detected, the charger may briefly raise the voltage up to 22V to address sulfation within the battery. Once the battery is sufficiently recovered, the charger proceeds automatically to step 6 (standard charging). Since your setup included the battery still connected to the motorcycle, the charger would have detected the vehicle circuitry and limited the voltage accordingly. You're all good! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Well,, i thougt you have to connect the clamps to the battery first, SAE connector already connected to the optimate and than plug it in to the wall outlet? That is the first step in the optimate manual? So you can leave your optimate connected to the wall outlet and just plug the SEA connecters together without getting sparks?
@OptiMate2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! You're correct that the OptiMate manual suggests connecting the clamps and charger to the battery first, then plugging into the wall outlet. This is a safe approach and minimizes any chance of sparking. In our video, while we connected the charger to the battery while the charger was still connected to AC power, there is no risk of sparks in this case. This is because our chargers are designed with built-in safety features to prevent sparking when connecting or disconnecting from the battery while plugged into AC power. That said, for the safest practice, we typically recommend following this sequence: Install the cables (O-01 battery lead or O-04 battery clamps) onto the battery first. Connect the charger to the battery via the installed cable. Finally, connect the charger to AC power. Thanks again for watching, and feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!

Hi,I have an AGM battery on my kymko ak550, wich program should I have to use for charging Thank you .
@OptiMate2 ай бұрын
For your AGM battery on the Kymco AK550, we recommend using Program 1, which is designed for directly charging lead-acid (AGM) batteries. This will provide the best charging performance and long-term maintenance. To get the most out of your OptiMate 4 Quad Program, we suggest connecting directly to the battery using the OptiMate O-01 battery lead.

I have 2 bikes BMW R1250RT and Ducati V4 Multistrada. Both have can-bus would this also work on the Ducati ?
@OptiMate3 ай бұрын
Yes, this also works on the CAN-bus system of the Ducati. On the Ducati, the CAN-bus system does not impose any restrictions on the battery during charging. The charger is compatible with both the CAN-bus system of your BMW and your Ducati.

Will this new quad charger work with the 2023 BMW 1250 GSA? Or just the new 2024 1300 bike battery?
@OptiMate10 ай бұрын
Yes, the OptiMate 4 Quad Program is compatible with the 2023 BMW R 1250 GS Adventure equipped with a lead-acid battery. You can use program 1 to charge the battery directly or program 2 to charge through the CAN-bus controlled 12V socket. Program 1 and 2 are specifically designed for lead-acid batteries (such as AGM). In the case of the new BMW R 1300 GS equipped with a lithium battery: Programs 3 and 4 are specially designed for lithium LFP batteries. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I've got the quad 4 it's so bloody complicated one can't tell when it's charged
@OptiMateАй бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! We understand that the OptiMate 4 Quad Program can feel a bit complicated at first with its four unique charging programs. Each program is designed to match your battery's chemistry and connection method, ensuring it gets the best care. Once you select the right program, the charger automatically manages the process. For Program 3 - LFP, user interaction is required for a BMS reset, but otherwise, the charger will take care of everything, including indicating when the battery is fully charged. If you ever need clarity on the process or have questions about the charging status, feel free to reach out. We’re here to help make it as simple as possible!

please welcome the new millenium using LCD panels . thanks
@OptiMate11 ай бұрын
Hi! OptiMate's philosophy is to make it as easy as possible for you and for everyone to easily understand the color code. LCDs also have no added value for the user, while our color code indicates how many Volts are left in the battery after charging.
@LouisStreet8 ай бұрын
You should be more precise with your terminology and stop adding to the "CAN-bus" popular misconception. The charger does NOT connect "via the CAN-bus system". The CAN-bus does data comms amongst the various controllers on the bike. It has nothing to do with charging or the accessory port.
