More data is needed. What was the tension on the cables pressing against the rollers? What was the weight set at? What was the cam position (shims). How do we know this is an apples to apples comparison when we don't see any of the bow set up with 0 editing of the swap?

Interesting head design. At the 3:13 mark, the 3-blade head looks to have 2.5" or more penetration. Why does it look only 1/2" more penetration at the 3:15 mark? Would the cut on contact point design mitigate the bending that happened?
@TapArcheryАй бұрын
it may have looked like 2.5" more but it definitely was not that much! the lighted nock of the 3 blade was still visible just under the skin... so I'd estimate that it may have gotten 1" - 1.5" more ... and after pulling the arrows it looked like the 3 blade had actually hit a spot on the shoulder with less density of flesh/bone as well... regardless, it was a good showing for this test head given it's WAY larger profile. As for the bending these are cut on contact ... single bevel all the way to the end of the tip. I think the biggest factor in the bent tip is really just the material itself... Ti alloy is awesome for allowing us to make a really big profile head at only 150 grains but it has less yield strength than steel. Also the sheer cost of these makes full Titanium heads not a very viable option beyond my own use and research.
@michaelvstheworld3680Ай бұрын
@TapArchery There are a couple of variables at play here, assuming both broadheads were of equal sharpness. 1) You shot two completely different spots on a varying media. 2) It has been proving tip curling will decrease penetration as it tries to continue traveling through the medium. Dr. Ashby found in his study that you get better penetration if the tip just breaks clean off as opposed to curling.
@TapArcheryАй бұрын
@michaelvstheworld3680 I agree! And despite that it still performed quite well. You can't see it in the video but the head split through some thick bones. We're very pleased.
@TapArcheryАй бұрын
@michaelvstheworld3680 I believe the tip likely curled right at the end of the penetration as there was a thick chunk of bone the arrow was lodged in. All in all, great test for a completely experimental project. 🎯
@TapArcheryАй бұрын
@michaelvstheworld3680 also noteworthy is that the 2 heads were not quite equal in sharpness. The RAD 3 blade head had brand new stainless steel blades...capable of holding a better edge than our Titanium test model. Titanium can be given a sharp edge quite capable of killing effectively but it will never match steel.
@davidholliday2703Ай бұрын
Tanto tip.
@TapArcheryАй бұрын
We're definitely considering that as an option... I do however believe this style of tip produces better arrow flight. We're working next on a Steel model so the bending may be a moot point anyway.
@pensnut08Ай бұрын
Kudos for showing the bent tip. I'll be interested in seeing how you take care of that issue.
@TapArcheryАй бұрын
@pensnut08 thanks, it's just an experimental design really...although after this I have no qualms at all about dropping some big Whitetails with these, there will be some devastating kills. I'm not too surprised honestly given the 89 ft lbs of energy, the fairly thin single bevel chisel tip, Ti alloy material (lower yield strength than steel) and the fact we blasted through a thick shoulder bone. Stay tuned for future development and new broadhead designs! 🎯
@michaelvstheworld3680Ай бұрын
Tanto tip.
@TapArcheryАй бұрын
@michaelvstheworld3680 it's a possibility. The "issue" here though really isn't the shape of the tip but rather the overall thickness and the material used. Ti Alloy does not have the same level of yield strength as steel so we would need to thicken the material at the point of Impact. All probably moot though given that this head is really just for R&D and also for my own personal hunts this season. I don't think it's nearly as likely to get a bent tip (although it didn't slow down penetration much!) on a Whitetail shoulder as it would be on a Pig Shoulder.
@michaelvstheworld3680Ай бұрын
@TapArchery the tanto tip design not only reinforces the overall strength of the tip it also resists rolling better when impacting bone and it also has a greater splitting effect when encountering bones. Tanto for the win dude.

@TapArcheryАй бұрын
@brandonhines6616 there won't be one for this material type. It's capable of getting a more than sharp enough edge to kill; however, Titanium lacks the ability to gain and hold the kind of edge that the sharp blade fanatics will want. My goal here is to prove that these heads can still be devastating on game and I'll be hunting some big Whitetails with them this season. Another significant focal point here is showing that our unique Ferrule design is capable of effectively steering a very large profile head at high speed and then also gaining sufficient penetration on muscle and bone. Next week we'll be doing shooting tests with this head on a completely intact Cow Shoulder so stay tuned for that video!

it most certainly is not too light for Whitetail! I have bow hunted for 32 years and have killed many big bodied deer with a bow shooting relatively light arrows. TAP Archery Hello, for a PSE Supra X 37, Can you made a custom Cable Guard Rod Base with side angle adjust like the Hoyt Invicta? This because I notice the Cam Lean at full draw vs no draw change, you can set ok the Cam Lean 100%, but when you are at full draw the cams always have tendency to lean to the outer side on both cams (this because of the increase in cables tension as you go to the full draw). If you have a proporcional adjust of the side angle on the Cable Rod it can be more tuneable. This is in my opinion is the solving option for this problem in all PSE bows. Let me know if you can made this Cable Rod Custom Base. Thank you
