Dear brother, I am a dark skinned Indian and know exactly what you must have gone through in Punjab. One advice for tourists visiting India - Stay away from small establishments because that's where you would come accross illiterate, ignorant, nosy and rude people. South India is a better place for travellers, still not comparable to other developed societies but probably a better experience than North l.
