Nice morning session! I've never had any luck with raw shrimp the few times I used it as bait around Oceanside and Carlsbad areas. I need to give it another shot. 👍

@@radrc depends on the area you fish, like a sandy beach is better to use sand fleas or ghost shrimp or other bait of choice. On spots like this with eel grass and reefs, shrimp & squid is great bait for a variety of species. Thanks for watching, good luck next time your out there 👍🏽

You’re right, looking at it closer it looks more like some type of rock fish, black rock fish maybe? I’ve caught calicos before and some are lighter than others. In this case this one had its fins and gill plates super flared up. It was Angry haha. Thanks for watching man !

Nice catch not a huge catch leopards are not very big go after thresher sharks I catch them they will be huge amd give you a real fight try it you will love to hook one of them

@@donaldmartin4620 Haha, I should’ve rephrased that, Huge leopard shark since they can grow up to 6-7 feet, and this one came in close to 5’. Yeah those threshers get Huge! I have some friends that fish for them regularly and they put on a nice fight and make delicious meals! Time consuming but once you land them it pays off. Thanks for watching 🎣

@@SocalFisherman I bleqve the males only got to 4.9 ft amd the females only get to 5.9 ft it’s rare to catch one over 6 for as I have caought them a lot bit there still a great catch look cool I even ate on o been catching them in California even big thresher on my 16 Saturn beat welded boat I got 25 miles of shore for threshers amd hige bat rays to I seen you on your boat it’s cool next time you go out put a half mackerel on a 5/0 circle hook drop it half way down or even a love one hook it in the tail amd wait and watch biggest thresher I caught was a 11 ft one if your motor catching bigger things you might like a thresher there great eating bit again great catch glad to see your having fun out there keep the video up post when you launch your boat when you getting into it amd heading out on the water will up your KZbin channel keep it up good luck out there be safe

@SocalFisherman locals are the worst from my experience at multiple piers. And others learn from the locals, seeing that they take everything, then they start to do the same. Only if the game warden would actually do their job.

@@tommkc yeah I’ve seen both sides, only a handful of people I know respect those regulations in place. I have been stopped by the warden at the pier twice, I’m curious if they’ve ever seen anything like that during those times

I think I definitely need to try this back way next time! Went in from the coast side and discovered it back there for the first time the other day. Got a huge spotted bass that flopped away from me, I was so bummed! Subscribed!

@@saltafoya13 Depends where your fishing from but here are some few baits: muscle & baby muscle for the big ones. You can also use ghost shrimp, lug worms & blood worms, sand fleas. You can apply these baits at the next fishing spots you hit

Ventura Ca. mid 60"s my dad was unemployed for a short time, so he stole a stack of my mom's S&h green stamp books and bought a pole went fishing .Just happened Croaker were running and we killed them . good times!
