@@GalaxyCDSRocks Two different instances I bought something and was blindsided by what seemed to be exorbitant shipping fees, one was a small book that was shipped in a priority medium flat rate box and the other was a lightweight item that just had a high shipping fee (I don't recall the specifics). Another time, I bought several clothing pieces from a fairly wellknown KZbinr reseller who was doing a show for other resellers and all of the pieces I received had holes and stains that were not disclosed during the show. It was really that last one that soured me on the whole thing.

I don't get eBay's "recruit those who are uber live seller successful" like headhunting in the traditional job world. The live shows take ALOT of time in real time vs "passive" time & I'm unsure what incentives eBay could possible offer to carrot folks to switch. I did not experience those glitches "to my knowledge" , ( eBay international isn't' doing Netherlands right now so I am working with that buyer) , BUT as an eBay customer had I not known about this glitch I wouldn't have even asked the seller, I just would have tried the next day again. If it didn't work again - just given up. I am so used to being unable to get items on the spot I just can't be bothered to jump through hoops to purchase ANYthing. Hopefully they fixed it ASAP. This glitch has much more of a buyer/seller impact then missing some categories admin error.

Watching these live shows has been interesting. It is even in the simplest set up quite labor intensive, and I'm seeing significant numbers of unsold items which ultimately have to be listed somewhere else. I don't think I see it replacing my regular business but could be a fun supplement. And yeah, I'm not seeing any incentive to go to eBay for live just yet.

Promoted Glitch: I think the only thing more frustrating then the extortion we call Promoted Listings, is when there's a glitch that won't even let you put in a percentage. That is happening for us this morning (Sat 12 Oct), on both our laptops and phone, when putting up or trying to adjust a listing. After turning on promoted and entering a percentage (4% for us) it gives us an error that says it won't take it and to try back. Of course, it also says "low" percentages will result in fewer views, since it wants 12% in this category. Wonder if it would work if I went with the 12% extortion rate? As it is, I'm putting up new listings with NO promotion, knowing eBay will bury them! Anyone else seeing this particular glitch today?

@@GalaxyCDSRocks It certainly is for me. I don't like the idea of the Promoted Program to begin with, but have accepted it as part of the cost to sell on eBay. But it having a glitch is doubling annoying, knowing I'll have to reopen and "fix" any listings put up while this is going on. 😉😉

15:26 I believe that as the buyers figure out they have this new fee being charged to them they're going to start making more offers in hopes of recouping that fee from the seller before they purchase the item. and I also believe that Poshmark knows this is what's gonna happen and knows that the seller is the one who's going to take the hit on the fee that's going to the buyer. on eBay sellers are pretty much forced to do promoted listing fees for their item doesn't get seen they have no traffic and they don't sell as much as they would with the promoter fees. On Poshmark it will end up being probably close to the same that the sellers on Poshmark probably won't sell as much if they don't list their items with some big discounts to try to make the buyers feel better about having to pay their fees. and the only discounts that the seller can do upfront is the shipping discounts so in a fact they're kind of pushing us towards doing free shipping or very low shipping. and I mean lower than the $5.95. when the seller lowers the shipping for the fire by doing shipping discounts it also lowers the sellers fees though right? Or do the sellers pay fees on the shipping original amount regardless of discounts given to the buyer? this is really confusing.

i buy 99% of my items now from Aliexpress as a seller on ebay since 2007 i used to buy a lot of my items from ebay not now though due to the high cost of items on ebay uk, when we left the EU suddenly Aliexpress started charging 20% VAT on basket value, and items took 60 to 90 days to arrive with Aliexpress, but as Aliexpress lost huge volumes of sales and Temu arrived on the scene, Aliexpress have become far more competitive in the market place i do 99% of all my ordering on Aliexpress, on average 50 to 70% cheaper than ebay, even including the 20% VAT tax, And my items arrive from Aliexpress in 7 to 10 working days, sometimes before my ebay UK orders arrive, Aliexpress do a offer, spend a combined £8 over multiple sellers and get free shipping, use coins to reduce total cost sometimes up to an additional 40% off and recently added was bundles, say buy 3 items at £1 each and get free 7 to 10 day shipping when the basket total could be £3 instead of the usual £8 for free shipping, i am buying heavy now everything i need for many many years in the future as Aliexpress is as cheap now to buy as 4 years ago before the added 20% i am also buying everthing i need now for many years on ebay as i will stop buying altogether on ebay if they add a buyer fee they act like they have a captive audience, unless they know something i don't and Chinese imports will be highly taxed in the future, which could be an option, Ebay are already crazy expensive compared to Aliexpress so i am getting all my Blu Rays now while they are cheap before the price goes up especially as our new government wants to increase taxes instead of reducing government wasted billions of $$$

I used to sell a few items on eBay here in the UK but stopped when i noticed buyers were claiming items were not working/not as advertised and wanted their money back and allowed to keep the item. When I sold large equipment , I allowed the buyer to view and only buy if they were happy with it and then collected it and paid cash. eBay don't like missing out on the cash so they have stopped cash & collect.

In my case I intend to clear out everything before the end of the year to take full advantage of this window of opportunity, it’s an ideal time with Christmas on the horizon after that if I successfully reduce my clutter well at my age I do not care. Looking at the bigger picture it does seem to me that some fee needs to be levied but fairly maybe it’s the buyer who pays a transaction fee and this will be fair to private and commercial sellers.

Congratulations on 5 years Ryan!! As far as Whatnot goes, I don't sell on there. However, from what I've seen from other sellers, Whatnot is more for volume, to move things quickly. Most of the time you will get less, and in some cases much less than on eBay. The question becomes, do you want the fast nickel or the slow dime? On Whatnot, a lot of sellers will just sell the items they know either won't sell on eBay or will take forever to sell on eBay.

I found out it couldn't go there (my own research), and then eBay told me to cancel the sale... which not only resulted in a lost sale, but he demanded that I pay him the difference in exchange rates eBay charges (the exchange rate is higher being charged and lower being refunded, I couldn't believe it was true but it was.) or he would leave negative feedback on me. eBay refused to refund the difference themselves and I had to send him the difference out of my own pocket. I have mixed thoughts about Whatnot from the outside looking in. I definitely think it's a tool that can be used to get more sales for specific items, but I think it can also be a trap. I saw a comment about live selling & buying that caught my attention recently. The commentor compared it to low-level gambling and implied there could be an addictive element. I don't know, but I've seen a few sellers go all in almost immediately & pretty much burn their eBay business down 😊. I think the quick $ is very seductive even when it doesn't make sense. But I get it. You get instant gratification for your efforts.

@@GalaxyCDSRocks I've been selling on Whatnot for a few years now, just part-part time though. WN has tremendous potential, IMHO, and I think it's fabulous that we have this platform as well as the eBays & the Mercaris & Poshmarks, etc. A big part of succeeding on WN - unless you come to it with a built-in audience, say, from KZbin - is self-promotion and building a following. It can take time. But the freedom we're given to hold our own different, creative live shows is worth the effort, as is the community building that happens on the app in the different categories. So many great people on there.

There are laws that differ per state on live reselling. Around 25 states have laws on the books. In my state you can only sell a certain amount of money until you have to get an auctioneer license.
