GE is louder in front, quiter in rear. Pratt & Whitney is quiet in front, loud in rear. Rolls-Royce is loud in fron, loud in rear.

Oh dear. This is fascinating so thank you for posting but I have an almost visceral reaction to seeing airliners in this state. So glad the Concordes are mostly preserved ❤. Miss you Concorde 😢

I worked for BA when it was still flying and got the chance to fly to JFK and back; back in 1992. Interesting to observe the VIPs on board! Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford!

That was the last Jumbo I flew, landed in JFK 13L from a Canarsie arrival, my FO flew it home so I flew the approach into London, he landed we taxed to the gate and shutdown, we had about 20 people on board all escaping the impending C19 shutdown. We both knew that would be the last time we would get to fly her. Sad.

1:40 nothing like watching 747-400 gracefully land. And Landor livery: best livery. First time I ever flew in an airplane as a kid was a BA 747 in Landor livery.

@ yes, and I have flown in several of the very first BA 777s ! At the time BA placed the order for their first thirty B777s many were surprised that they chose the GE90 engine, instead of one from Rolls. All their subsequent B777/200s did have Rolls engines, and the choice of GE for the first thirty may have been linked to the sale of the BA engine overhaul factory in Treforest South Wales, to GE ! A wonderful plane.

There were actually 5 of these ZZ reg 777’s that BA had. BA only operated A, B and C. They had GE90 engines but only rated at 75,000 lbs of thrust, where the VII reg ones had 90,000 lbs. So ZZA,B and C tended to operate Middle East routes, and the shorter Atlantic crossings such as New York, Newark and Boston.

@brianrjclarke Hi Brian - BA disposed of them in 2002. ZD went to Khalifa; Air Algerie; Varig and finally Republique Gabonaise. Stored since 2016. ZE started the same way but was broken up 2018.

Not looking so shiny now though. VW has been used on film sets and repainted in Kuwait Air and EastWest airlines using magic paint that washes off. Unfortunately both VW and VY are looking a bit grubby 😕😕

At 1:08 in front or back of SAS there seems to be a DC 10 or MD11 some sort of tri-jet maybe even a L1011 - tri-star ???? !!!

@ahbenjamin2889 yes that’s a fire training rig which was used by the fire service. You can catch some clearer views of it on some of my other films. Sadly it’s been removed now. It was a generic shape - a trijet but not specifically a DC10 or TriStar but just meant to resemble that wide bodied type …

Every time I see "Final flight for a 747", I think a little piece of me dies! Such a magnificent aircraft!! I dread seeing "Final flight of the last 747"!! I know they will continue on for a while as freighters, but as pax service maybe not too long.

@arthurgabriel5709 yes it’s a really weird anomaly. In the first lockdown of spring 2020 all 5 flew out from LHR to Teruel - -G-CIVA; R; S;T and X. I’ve still got the screenshot from FR 24 showing them flying in convoy on 3 April 2020. Why they are still there - and in fairly good condition from what I hear - who knows? 🤔

@ahbenjamin2889 The Captain is on X (Twitter) on @magsmeister23 as well as Tim Byatt - also on X. They also flew the Landor 747 into Dunsfold, 2 months later for that final landing. Both pilots still working for BA. ✈️

What a waste. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this aircraft and she could have flown on for another 5-10 years. BA could have triaged the 747s and kept the newer, better ones.

@HeathrowAircraft Forgot to mention Iran Air and Alliance Air (ex SAA) 747Sp's all served LHR. Boeing's 777LR was the natural successor to the 747Sp. Qatar, Delta and Air Canada fly it into LHR on a regular basis.
