Your critique of the lightest skin tone makes perfect sense as someone with the undertones they use to describe the skintone. I have olive undertones as a fair skin person, and blond or yellow toned hair looks kind of awful on me, as well as blues and purples. If I dress in purples, I end up looking like I'm super ill. Olive under tone fair skin peeps often have issues looking sick or even zombie-like. It's also kind of hilarious to me that AG uses that skintone, as fair olive skin is pretty rare irl--I have the hardest time finding any foundation that matches. I assume why they use it is due to old resin/plastic's tendency to yellow over time and lose its pinks. In the BJD community, people use that on purpose to say that older, more yellow dolls look more "human" than they started in their original stark white. However newer resin/plastic has much better options to avoid yellowing and losing pink tones, so it could just be due to historical grandfathering?

i totally get what you mean with how being called american girl/girl of the year locks them into certain things. if they weren't called *american* girl i think it could be beneficial - they could release maybe one or two dolls from places like the uk, germany, japan, france and then open a store in these places with two historical dolls from each country, goty (i dont think children will hugely notice that the goty are all from the usa) and the truely me line. it does baffle me that ag doesn't really try to move into these foreign markets that much (that i know of)

Yes! The rollerskating outfit is super 80s! I swear I had pretty much this exact outfit complete with the yarn hair bow when I was a little kid in the early 80s. But I love it!

Someone on Reddit got a free head replacement for their Chrissa cause she had a “bubble” on the top of her wig so I’m guessing that’s the same problem with your cyo but I would recommend calling ag about it :)

Great thoughts, Jonny! I would like to put this out there: girls don’t necessarily want a mini-me! When I was a girl, I loved Samantha because everything about her life and look was different from mine. I also remember idolizing beautiful black TV characters (Tia and Tamara, Laura from Family Matters…) for the same reason. Dolls play out fantasies, so they don’t need to mimic the girl’s look. If anything, girls relate to the personality. I bought Claudie for my niece (white, blond, blue) when she turned 8. I decided to give her a vintage rewigged Samantha instead because I thought she’d have more fun with the hair. When I showed her the Claudie I bought, she lost her mind and asked to pleeeeease take her home! I was really surprised. I asked if she would know how to take care of her hair, and she told me she’d use a pick to remove tangles and wet the curls around a rat-tail to set! My jaw hit the floor. The problem of white dolls selling better is 100% an adult problem, not a girl problem!

HI from England. The doll hair around the crown looks natural as it happens in reality a lot. It makes him individual You can always apply a little real adult gents hair product. Do you wash the hair out on the doll? As to your own hair. The crop is never messy but growing it a bit longer on top would give you different styling options too for yourself..

Here is my hot take! Do a wig swap with your original blonde boy doll! The colour looks like a much nicer match for you and I think it would help the skin hair clash! Love the turtleneck on boy dolls, my partners mini me lived in a turtleneck for a hot minute 🤣

My simple advice: if you aren’t in love with the doll, why keep it? Call and see what american girl will do to fix the hair issue. You are not responsible for the hair being messed up before you even opened the box. I honestly am not a fan of the cyo line as a whole, because of how horrible the website is. You really have no idea what the doll will look like based off of their AI looking images.

I ordered a CYO girl with light skin and blonde long, straight hair. The hair was so bad in back that I think a worker tried to cover it up by cutting a chunk out. It looked like someone put a too hot curling iron to it and fried the back. You couldn’t tell that once it was secured in the box. Also the hair texture was very different than my other dolls - like the plastic used for dish sponges! AG would NOT take it back or repair it without charge. They told me they get many complaints about the blond CYO wigs especially., but sorry they couldn’t help. I bought an Etsy wig and replaced it myself, but still so angry that they charged so much and it clearly was wrong!

I am so pleased that you are going to keep him! It totally makes sense about the hair although yours has always looked fine to me. 9 year old Jonathan must have looked just like that. The sticking up hair makes him more unique and gives him extra charm. I am low maintenance with my dolls too and actually prefer them to have a small defect to make them special. Just like humans dolls are never perfect. Thanks for sharing your experience. 🥰

You should absolutely add boy doll clothes to your store. I actually don’t have any boys in my collection but I could always use more gender neutral clothing options and I know a lot of people want more clothes for their boy dolls. Your new boy is cute! I feel like his hair is fixable but if not they absolutely will send a replacement or cover a hospital visit if you get a defective doll, even though they say no returns or exchanges. You just can’t get a straight up refund or a different doll, you would have to just replace him with an identical one.

You should absolutely make original boy doll clothes, I have 11 AG boys, 2 OG boys, and 2 Heidi Ott boys, as well as my 2nd cyo boy who is supposed to be delivered next week, and theres just not enough options! I have all of the boy outfits AG released except for the red basketball outfit, but did get most of the Girl of Today soccer outfits from ebay, my boys are definitely more soccer brats over b-ball guys 😂

This was so fun to watch the process from start to finish. I think he's pretty cute, I wish we could know if the heat did that to his hair or he really just arrived that way after a rough shipping journey. I don't know if I'll do a create your own doll or not. I've just purchased a Rebecca and feel like she would be what I would want my CYO to look like. Can't wait to get her and see! My first doll with the smooth hair and no bangs! (I currently have Samantha, Kirsten, and Claudie).

I just got an original 1986 (tan body) Samantha at my local thrift store for $1. She has her original dress, tights and shoes. She has the lighter eyes. She needs some TLC and this is the perfect information that I am needing. I am now obsessed with American Girl dolls and starting my collection. I am on the hunt for additional pieces that go with Samantha. Thanks for showing how to care for her.

Wow! Great items! I have a pail that I am trying to research. Maybe you know what it goes to? Pleasant company , made in Taiwan. Silver metal pail with handle, looks like Addy’s lunch pail but is slightly wider at top than bottom. Also Addy’s pail has an extra metal pierce where the handle is attached, mine doesn’t. Any ideas?

First of all rescue dogs for the win!! I love that you support them. Secondly, I totally get girls wanting a doll that looks like them, but for me personally I have always been drawn to both characters in movies and dolls who were not white (even as a really young kid). It wasn’t like a deliberate decision or anything, it just naturally happened. I also realize that the adult collectors are probably more drawn to the Historical dolls than young girls, but they are the main ones I’m interested in (the only AG doll I have right now is Kaya). I wrote down a wish list the other day and almost all of them are girls of color. I guess my point is I hope they release Daisy because I really think girls need to see diversity from a young age because they might not be seeing that in their personal lives. I really hope non-white dolls preform better numbers so we can have more diversity in the future.

I hope they release a Daisy doll! Before the leaks I was really hoping for a girl of color or even a red head. I like how she has glasses, wears a sweatsuit, and it's obsessed with animals. I don't think they've done a character quite like that before (have they?). Have they really still not sold out of Corinne? She's one of my absolute favorites! I'm in love with her collection, too. Kavi is another of my favorites. These past two years have been awesome.

I would love to see a poor doll. I mean, Addy and Kirsten weren't wealthy or even middle class. Then we had some friend dolls like Gwen and Nelly. Am I missing any? But wouldn't it be refreshing to have a modern girl struggling in poverty?
@kreskin0079
@kreskin0079 5 күн бұрын
@@klhpensil21I hear what you're saying but it would be in bad taste to make a modern doll who's poor....as American girl would be profiting off of the poor girls in America who wouldn't even be able to afford the doll that looks like them.
@klhpensil21
@klhpensil21 5 күн бұрын
@kreskin0079 Hmm, good point! I realize that practically it doesn't makes sense. I would personally just find the stories of a less well-off kid to be much more relatable. Maybe just a girl who's not high middle class or upper class, to more accurately reflect life in the United States (though American Girl's main customers are amoungst the wealthy). I'm hoping from the leaks that Summer will be that. As a child my family barely scraped by financially, but I did get one American Girl doll for Christmas one year. I think my grandparents helped pay for it. I think that's actually a pretty common experience. I realize there are many children in our country who are worse off and never get that experience. I just want American Girl to truly represent American life. I'm really hoping for more characters with disabilities, and different family situations, too.
@kreskin0079
@kreskin0079 5 күн бұрын
@@klhpensil21 I feel the same way. I can more easily relate to the stories of those who grew up poor. And I would love to see an AG doll with a disability like autism. I don't think there is one. My family couldn't afford an American girl doll for me and I actually just got Molly for Christmas last year from my spouse. That was a very healing experience for my inner child.
@klhpensil21
@klhpensil21 5 күн бұрын
@kreskin0079 Yes, I'm sure! I'm glad you finally got your doll. ❤ An autistic American Girl would be awesome. I would love that, too. Also a character who's in a wheelchair. And why haven't they made an American Girl down syndrome face moulde yet? Of course these things need to be done with sensitivity and real people with disabilities need to be involved in creating the story. On a similar note, I know this might be really controversial, too... it should also be done with sensitivity, but what about an actual character who's battling cancer? Sorry, tangent. There are just a lot of children in our country who aren't represented yet. American Girl has so many options.
