He can't use his Elemental Retort if he's knocked prone or paralysed with something like Hold Person or Karabasans Gift

Thank you very much for this ! I'm a DM who's only ever done pre-made adventures, and these guidelines are very helpful because the whole creatig process can be a little bit overwhelming haha I'm also about to DM for high school beginners and i hope this simple format will hook them onto dnd :)

For the pantheon I've been working on recently, a lot of the gods were named using words loosely associated with them. For example, the technical ruler of the pantheon is a deity of love named Caaris, which is derived from the word "caress", and I decided the deity is where that word is derived from in their setting. For others, I combined names I found online to create a new name. Also, most of their names have 2 of at least one letter. Love, connection, and the general concept of never having to feel alone are a big deal in this world, so the gods and mortals usually have names where at least one letter repeats. The only deity who doesn't follow this convention is Isol, the "deity" who gave up her physical form to become the Garden of Souls, a literal garden where souls are "planted" with the intent to reincarnate. The L in her name was given to her by another deity, who now simply goes by The Messenger because he doesn't feel right using the name he technically "shares" with Isol, the love of his life.

I am playing with mods and this fight is IMPOSSIBLE. Everytime he reacts with that skill algo he buff himself with 5 unstoppable.

4:42 Something relating to grammar that I really like and somewhat subconsciously took from Kratos (2018 and Ragnarök) for my Half Orc Cleric was to not use contractions at all. I only realized that Kratos does this too after I had made the character, but it makes sense. It just lends a bit more gravitas to everything the character says. It can be challenging to do and almost every session I mess up at least once and use a contraction by accident and there are some examples where it is more difficult to stick to (like asking someone "why don't you do X"), but overall I feel it's still worth it and sets the character apart nicely without being too annoying.

Can do it at level 3 easily, maybe even level 2 but you gotta fight an extra enemy, have shart cast silence on the owlbear to start the fight, prevents call consort, sad you miss out on that xp but hey, plenty of other xp sources. have a paladin/warlock, and a cleric, my paladin cast halt and got closer 1st turn, shart rolled lower initiative than the owlbear so I tried to have her halt it too, she failed, but I brought brynna and her brother to help me, brynna does successfully cast halt. Rogue sneak attacks with assassin subclass bonus. 2nd turn, lae'zel with two flame blades (hireling trick.) and my paladin with everburn blade just abuse the owlbear, shart casts halt and gets it this time, so does brynna even though two halts doesn't mean much here lol. Rogue does a crit sneak attack by just spamming bonus action hide and ranged sneak. 3rd turn, lae'zel cooks as usual, so does my paladin, so does my rogue, owlbear dead.

Im worried they might be too front loaded

Idk how I feel about these changes as a whole, but Agonizing blast working on other cantrips is a huge deal. Booming Blade and Green Flame blade just got even more awesome

For anyone new heres an easy way to cheese this fight if you have 600 gold. Leave one part member behind, take 3 through the portal, shove him off the balcony, shadow step, jump, or fly down to finish him off, loot him and let all 3 die, return to camp and revive all teamates.

I had my fight barbarian improvise melee weapon him prone near a ledge and luckily me, Astarion and Wyll went and got eldritch blasted off a ledge first round 😂

my sis got the minis before the books, so I played with the figurines, giving a gunner cat, sexy tiefling, druid mushroom etc personal motivations for gathering before the demon lord to take him down. The power struggle was epic, until a book dragon decided he'd seen enough death and stomped on the demon. (I then started playing D&D fr and hated the combat system.)

I find it helps to have a trigger phrase to get into the voice. Something you can easily say with that accent or speech pattern. For example: "Yah, okay" for a German accent.
