Can do it at level 3 easily, maybe even level 2 but you gotta fight an extra enemy, have shart cast silence on the owlbear to start the fight, prevents call consort, sad you miss out on that xp but hey, plenty of other xp sources. have a paladin/warlock, and a cleric, my paladin cast halt and got closer 1st turn, shart rolled lower initiative than the owlbear so I tried to have her halt it too, she failed, but I brought brynna and her brother to help me, brynna does successfully cast halt. Rogue sneak attacks with assassin subclass bonus. 2nd turn, lae'zel with two flame blades (hireling trick.) and my paladin with everburn blade just abuse the owlbear, shart casts halt and gets it this time, so does brynna even though two halts doesn't mean much here lol. Rogue does a crit sneak attack by just spamming bonus action hide and ranged sneak. 3rd turn, lae'zel cooks as usual, so does my paladin, so does my rogue, owlbear dead.

Btw, owlbear cub is at risk since brynna's brother really likes to attack it, but killing the owlbear before he kills the cub seems to be efficient enough at stopping it :)

That's seems a bit too sophisticated. I beat the encounter at level 3 as a rogue, astarion, shart and laezel, and summoned little spiders, but they didn't do much in the fight, at most 10-15 damage total. Used a haste potion on astarion mid fight for more attacks, should've used it on laezel, but still, beaten the owlbears one by one by casting command stop on one of them, and beating the other. The owlbear cub didn't deaggro tho, probably because of the spiders

In my latest run (after patch 6) the owlbear cub is still hostile after defeating the mother and the mate. Are you able to confirm if you are having this issue? The cutscene where the cub eats its mom never triggers and it just keeps attacking. I'm afraid this means I cannot recruit it later in the goblin camp...

Uh oh, I haven't had that issue so I'm not able to confirm. Hopefully you're still able to recruit it!

Can't u just use non lethal attacks on the cub and knock it out?

did it on lvl 3 lol ... (many fails tho ... get them to come up the rocks and then thunder them down to the selune statue thing (not quite there but in that general direction)

Do you know if it's possible to silence mother owlbear before she calls her mate, so as that she can't call for him?

That's a great question! I'm not entirely sure. In theory it makes sense that that would be able to work, but I have a suspicion it's hard-coded to happen regardless

@@thealpinedm As it turns out. Yes, you can silence her from calling her mate. Makes the fight a lot easier ;) If you do it from stealth, it also surprises her, which makes it even easier
