I agree. The Kamasu is underrated because of its individual components (jangly bracelet, wide lug width, annoying crown guard, etc.), but it's one of those things that's greater than the sum of its parts. You don't have to baby it because it can take abuse. I swapped out the factory bracelet for a Strapcode jubilee-style bracelet, and I followed that with a gray perlon strap so I have options. I'm thinking of getting a brown leather strap soon - might go well with my blue Kamasu! Great video! Thanks for the review.

Great video with thoughtful considerations. I've been a humble collector for years. It took me plenty of time and hard work to build my collection. I've got 1 Rolex Sea-Dweller, 1 Omega Heritage Speedmaster '57, 1 Tag Heuer Formula 1 Gulf A, 1 Seiko Prospex SPB151j, 1 Tissot Classic dresing, 1 Bulova Lunar Pilot... But as a watch nerd who just likes a good watch, my collection now has 29 pieces. So among them you'll find Casios, Swatch (an irony all SS chrono from 2012 that Ilike a lot), Orient, Festina, affordable Seikos etc. AND some homages like the amazing Steeldive Cap. Willard SD1970 (bought before the spb151 to try the shape on the wrist), the Steeldive Seiko Tuna SD1975 in engineer bracelet (bought for the same reason and ended up liking the peculiar design all the same but haven't got "courage" to pull the trigger on the original yet). And I think you sumed it up very well with the word hypocrisy: for example, there are tons of models in the industry from several respected brands that homage the Submariner (some close to 85%, 90%) and everyone seems to be cool with that. But if it's a chinese affordable brand (delivering construction quality, sapphire glass, reliable automatic movements), then lots of people "turn their noses" and bash these pieces.

I'm a bit confused between the one with just the date or with day and date. Your thoughts?

I love the colour and the case style. For me not having a date is a pain, so I wouldn't travel with it, but for the look of it I'd still have it.

Unless you are willing to give your watches away, exposure will be limited. The date, no date is really down to how well it is executed. Dates often let the design down. The lack of date lets this design down. A GMT without a date is rather pointless. This feels more 1655 than most.

I also have trouble matching my green steeldive to straps. I love the green on the watchdive. My only concern with this watch that has prevented me from buying it. Does the lume pip fall off after knocking it? This is a reported problem in the Heimdallr.

Fully agree on the fixed stainless steel bezel. I feel that 1. I would never use a 3rd time zone and 2. Moving the only 24h markings on the watch would make it way worse to track time zone 2 anyway.

I really like this watch but wish they had put in a date window at 6 o'clock. Also, if you are going to put in a bezel like that, make it rotating, it can be a friction bezel. This would give the added functionality of timing pancakes, hikes, naps, etc.

Beautiful watch but for me they should have made a 24 hours inner chapter ring to make it a 3 time zone GMT if the outer bezel would rotate as I travel a lot and want to see my home time, new local 24 hour time on a rotating bezel and UTC time on the inner chapter ring. Good show friend!

Best review of the Seagull 1963 I've watched. You made the pros and cons very clear. Most reviewers get too excited and forget the latter. I wanted it before watching and I still want it now, it's incredible and I'm okay with the unreliable movement considering it's nearest compition will cost a multiple. It's just good to be made aware of the cons beforehand. Just ordered mine! 38mm, saphire crystal, no gooseneck, no lume.

A great video review of a great watch which has some actual provenance in the space race, I have the larger bead blasted version but on my 71/2 wrist it doesn’t look awkward. I also have owned the Omega Speedmaster but sold it on and this watch has replaced it and will stay in my collection. Cheers from Nova Scotia. MikeR.

Nice commentary! Didn't know your channel but I've subscribed. I just bought one in China for the equivalent of 100 euros, waiting for it to arrive. They're even cheaper here of course. It's not from the seagull factory but there's no patent on this watch apparently (China, lol), the movement is from seagull and the reviews were really solid. A chronograph with a cool history and really unique look for 100 euros, absolute bargain. My Pagani Design keeps WAY better track of time than my Seiko 7S36C so I got nothing but love for cheap Chinese mechanicals.

I think all Chinese brands above 80 bucks regulate their movements. I have 4 seikos, 2 orients and a citizen, running as expected. And then I have this green willard, San Martin, Heimdallr and a few Addiesdive mechaquartz watches. All chinese watches with NH35 run within 5 seconds.
