This is a really helpful video as I’m contemplating a dye project… would it be possible to dye a darker colour? I have a cobalt blue garden seat pad that I would like to make green - my plan is to dye it yellow, it should work and produce a dark green I’m thinking? Thanks 😊

All I can say is WOWSERS I am truly impressed with both of these projects!!!!!!!!!! I have never worked with transfers but you have definitely changed my mind. I have already checked my " frame " situation and might have to go to village to see what they have that has a good frame and sturdy back. I am late coming to your site but better late then never. I was looking for ideas to spruce up some old lamps I have. So thank you very much for the ideas and for providing an excellent video for me to learn from. Well done!!!!!!!!! I have subscribed for more ideas and will

Does the wax add any kind of sheen to the paintwork? I'm painting a piece of furniture for a friend who wants a matt finish (no sheen whatsoever), will the wax keep the matt finish???
@suehead10916 күн бұрын
I had major problems using chalk paint. Had a unit with drawers and cupboards that only had about a mm clearence when closing. After 2 coats of chalk paint neither the cupboards or drawers would close. Can't say I'm a fan of chalk paint, would rather see the natural beauty of the wood.

Did you water down the paint??

We're going to try the roller. Leave them wood.

Do you prefer this method over the shellac?
@DIYDEANNA17 күн бұрын
Shellac is a good option for stain blocking, wood tannins bleed through. Sometimes you need both sanding and shellac. It depends on the wood, what’s currently on the surface and what your plans are for paint or stain.

I just chalk painted my first piece of furniture, a large dresser. I used a micro roller because I had veneer damage to repair prior, I had to prime first. The primer showed those lines and brush marks you mentioned. So I lightly sanded and then roller the 2nd coat of primer. That's why I was afraid of brushing the paint. I did do thin coats but I can see those lines again in just a few places. So I'm going to apply a 3rd coat of paint using the same brush you used. I didn't use with primer because I was afraid of ruining the brush especially if the primer dried on it. Now my dresser is all color. I was going to add a decoupage but it was far too large and didn't want to cut all that off and waste it. ** So what would look nice over a dark blue grayish teal color? This is antique dresser older than me, 59 but doesn't have any appliques. I want to some flare and male it look unique. Any suggestions other than knobs and pulls? I don't want distress or make it look old again. Add some silver guilding creme to the edged? OR can add a lighter color to the middle section of drawers so if I find a new decoupage I could incorporate it? Or just it over the blue paint and try to blend a little bit of.the edges to draw interest to the picture? I'm lost at this point. I had originally left the drawers just primed but chose to paint since I didn't have anything to dress it up. I do have some Behr clear wax. Jus5 add that and leave as is? I have 2 other dresser and a 4 poster bed to paint as well. Btw,as you can tell I love challenge in anything I do on first try of whatever I'm learning. Lol I'm using Modern Masters warm silver on the bed, added appliques to it since it already had a little. If all this isn't enough? I'm venetian plastering my livingroom and adding plaster raised stenciling too. I've learned to mill grains and make my breads from scratch, have been growing near all my food for a decade. I've learned to add wood decorative trims to my kitchen cabinets after stripping and staining 32 cabinets over the winter. After the venetian plaster I'm putting thin brick around 4 archways throughout my house. And I'm making a valance and curtains for a 144" window which I've never sewn anything before. Yea I'm crazy. I'm loving retirement and learning so much I never had the time to learn. So far really enjoying all of this . I wonder if anyone else is doing any of these things? Please share if you are. Fun 😁

I like to seal my chalk painted furniture as it makes the finish more durable, the wax is a sealer. you can used a different type of sealer if you prefer.
@nishashetty192022 күн бұрын
Very simple and easy to follow. How can I make this waterproof for using it outdoor?
@DIYDEANNA22 күн бұрын
Great question. Instead of applying the wax sealer you can apply an outdoor sealer. Ask your local paint or hardware store what they recommend.

I couldn't agree more about the music thing. And I'm a musician! It's so distracting and pulls the focus right off the instructions as I think, god I wish I could turn that background music off! Why ppl think they need that is beyond me, but I Pasadena on a video as soon as I hear it. LOL

Repairing and painting a piece of furniture and the ruining it by sanding off paint is the silliest thing I can think of. Distressed = old and worn.

@DIYDEANNAАй бұрын
I throw them out now, I have tried in a washing machine but it can leave some waxy residue in your washer and dryer. Also, I don’t think it’s a good idea for the wax water to go down the drain.

I don't know if she's using a different chalk paint than what I used but when I tried it and without sanding off the finish entirely I could scratch the paint off with a fingernail.

I’ve always had good results with Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan. Every brand of paint will behave differently. Sanding and priming might be necessary prep steps on some hard to paint surfaces, especially shiny ones. Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for this straightforward and informative video! I feel encouraged to go ahead with my project. One question: I will be repainting the top of my dining room table. It was a “farmhouse” white painted table, and when we put a plant in the middle, some water leaked underneath and the paint has come off in a few places and you can see bare wood. I expect that I’ll need to sand those areas and then prime? Should I prime the whole top? Thank!
@DIYDEANNAАй бұрын
Glad you found this video informative! I would probably sand or strip the entire top because sometimes you will still see the patched area when you apply new paint or sealer. Especially if you are going for a smooth finish. But yes, at a minimum I would sand away and loose paint and prime.

OMG what the hell man!! Well you made that look quite simple!! I'm struggling with a little project right now. My brother's wife has old toy box that was done with wood stain just like this(they did a very sloppy job whoever did it lol) but for whatever reason this thing is being a nightmare to sand!! This stain is just really holding on and doesn't wanna come off easily, not to mention they did the stain over a white paint too lol. But yeah it's being a bitch....was browsing YT looking for some sanding tips. I enjoyed watching your video but this was useless for me honestly haha you made that look so simple(as it should be) but my stain is on steroids or some shit. Wish me luck...I'm about to get started on it again.
@DIYDEANNAАй бұрын
Sorry to hear about your stubborn stain! Another option is using a paint/stain stripper or starting with a paint scraper then try sanding again. Good luck!
