Can I do distress first then do clear wax? I noticed you left side without wax then distressed. I didn’t see you follow through with wax.
@DIYDEANNA21 күн бұрын
Yes, that works! Always finish with wax to seal.

Chalk paint dries so fast - do you mist it to keep it workable?

Sometimes I do, or I dip my paint brush in a bit of water to dampen the bristles. Thanks for your question!

Does the stain pebetrate deep into the wood or is it just a surface penetraion? Do you just have to sand off the top 1 or 2 millimeters?

I have a question, if you were doing this on a kitchen table top that will be used for eating what would you use to protect the table from any damage? Thank you, Ellen

It’s so pretty! I feel like the stark white of the decoupage could use a brush of the stain stuff too to tone it down. I learned some things today. Thanks!

If i use the wax after the chalk paint, will i be able to wipe my furniture clean with water without the paint being removed? wanted to try this for a kitchen table but will need to clean the table surface so not sure if this type of paint and then wax will be a good fit

wish I had found this a day earlier. This I think is the answer I was looking for. I have just finished painting 2 large bookcases, 40 years old from 'This End Up - solid heavy unfinished pine...., with AS chalk paint, took almost 3 coats of paint to finally cover it. After it dried for many hours, I went to wax it, and the wax pullled the paint around to make it a bit streaky. I had done a previous book case that was a small finished case with solid coat of shellac on it. Even though that coat was old, the chalk paint went on that one just fine....so I thought the larger ones would be easy. I didn't realize there would be so much bleed through and patchiness in the unfinished wood cases. woof....what a streaky mess. If this were my first project I'd have sworn off of the stuff. But now I know better! Thanks for all the clear instruction. I'm glad I've found you, and am following for my future projects!!

Why does chalk paint need wax?
@DIYDEANNA3 ай бұрын
It’s a sealer for the paint. You can go without but Chalk Paint is very dry feeling, it can absorb oils, food, moisture etc. Wax helps to protect the finish.

I am a first time distresser! I am doing an old piece. It looks kind of waxy right now. I know you said you don’t need to sand but should I to remove,that waxiness? Also I am going to paint it white. Should I use clear or white wax?
@DIYDEANNA4 ай бұрын
If it feels waxy you might want to start with cleaning and a bit of sanding. Below is a video that will give you a few tips! You can use clear or white wax, the white wax may not make much of a difference on white, it shows up more on darker colours. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZmcnmuvebGJZrssi=F9ZqlK1A0_cIoECV
