Thanks "Blog or Die" for this comparison video . I have the XHDATA D -608WB and D-880 plus the ZhiWhiz A320 and ATS120 and find the Audio on the A320 and D-609WB to be better than ATS-120. 73!

Thank you! My receiver is Tecsun PL-330. I soldered a 4 farad 5v super capacitor parallel to the 1500mA battery and my radio works for a long time, one week without charging. I am happy with this radio.😀

Thank you for the videos. On the Qodosen DX-286…..is the shortwave continuous through and between all the meter bands? Or does it skip all the frequencies between bands? Take care.

The DX-286 SW band tunes continuously between 1711 and 27000 kHz, however the AUTO Tune Storage and AUTO scan tuning are just for the recognized international broadcast bands (noting that there is some overlap between ham bands and broadcast). This is the best implementation because auto scanning everything takes a very long time.

The two boxes are the low noise amplifier (the one below the antenna)) and the Biasing Tee (the one with the power connection and the LED). In my testing, the real and the fake biasing tee operated the same, so I would conclude that the low noise amplifier is the problem.

I often use the Auto mode with the push-buttons and with the Delay set for five seconds. It works a treat!

I was very disappointed that my 660 died after only two years only the FM now works none of the other bands. I got nothing from the manufacturer. They wouldn't even answer my emails.

@@garyhorn8614 I asked in case it was anon-co, who provide good service. The PL-660 seems to be out of production now, although the very similar PL-680 is still available. www.anon-co.com/ I think Amazon mostly sells Tecsun from Kaito USA, or did.

It was Kaito. I emailed them and got no reply. I know there was only a one year warranty, but still, I would've hoped that they would stand behind their product when there was a catastrophic failure. I did wind up buying the PL 880 normally I wouldn't buy from the same brand once I had been burned, but it seemed likea good choice.

I get copyright notices from KZbin occasionally maybe once a year (can't say about this video). I just respond that I am doing a review of a short excerpt and that it is fair use. The copyright holder never responds and KZbin drops the complaint when it expires. They leave the video up during the dispute. I had one video with an extended recording of "Hey, hey Paul" in Japanese. KZbin notified me of the copyright, but said it was OK.

I’m not an expert but I believe you just inadvertently made a dipole antenna when you added the ground connection to the ground rod. Electrical ground to earth isn’t the same as an antenna ground necessarily. Look up dipole antennas and retry your experiment with two equal pieces of wire and no earth ground. I bet your results are similar or better.

I'm not an expert either, but I read that dipole antennas aren't effective at frequencies below 27 mHz, and this is longwave. I've also used the same setup on another radio that is designed for an earth ground, and I get the same boost on MW.

Starting with the LIJIANI RD239, more and more radios have added backlit buttons. This is a good start, but I am not used to the green light. It is scary at night.

Excellent video on a nicely varied collection of SW receivers. I have the Sangean ATS405, the Eton Elite Executive and the Mesqool CR1015WB. I was curious of your experiences with the Degen DE28. I am looking for a good vertical pocket SW radio for my collection. I have the Eton Elite Mini and it is just terrific.

You might want look at my blog articles: www.blogordie.com/2023/07/battle-of-the-under-50-shortwave-radios/ . One issue with these small radios with screens is that the display can create noise. I don't recall for sure, but I think the display goes blank or something after a while to reduce the noise. I see it's under $25 on Amazon. The Raddy RF75A is another interesting shirt pocket radio.

I didn't tinker with the tone or the bandwidth controls. Stereo FM is very good with good headphones. But everything sounds poor after the PL-990.

Agreed. I didn't find the tone controls on the 286 very effective. One thing that hurts these radios sound quality, is the plastic case. Stronger and more vibration free construction would help.

Na minha avaliação, os pontos consideráveis são... Pontos positivos: Tamanho compacto. Teclado iluminado. Som relativamente bom pelo tamanho. VHF/UHF de 25 a 999. Recepção boa, mas perde pro XHDATA D-808 por exemplo. Pontos negativos: Filtro de banda só em VHF/UHF e (FM, que não faz sentido nenhum ter). Muita interferência em FM, mesmo de emissoras com sintonia bem distantes. Consumo elevado de bateria (comparado ao XHDATA D-808 por exemplo). Knob de sintonia em uma posição ruím e com barulho incômodo. E o principal, o inacreditável, bem pior do que não ter SSB, ele tem squelch só na banda aérea, nem tô acreditando, se eu soubesse desse detalhe, não teria comprado!

One thing you know for sure, is you never know. I've seen similar results, but not all the time. Those who say the ground doesn't matter usually means it is a sample of one. Every QTH is different. Good vid. 👍

I will note that ground doesn't so anything for me on shortwave, only MW/LW. This video is for the Tecsun PL-990, but the Qodosen DX-286 REALLY jumps ahead with ground.
