You don't see many Honda TL250's about, the OSSA's seem more common though even nowadays in 2024

That was 1 year after I started at Kihi Kihi in a TQ can't remember if I was driving or even at that meeting at "Misery Creek" as we called it. Yeh I'd still be racing something now if I hadden't been badly injured in a derby only 5 yrs ago.

Im from Dunedin, and have heard of Gary Goodfellow , but I really know nothing about him , and have never been able to find any information on him, I'd be interested. Also , in the late seventies and eighties, I went to Christie's gully near Dunedin, to see the Ian Brown memorial motocross , who was Ian Brown ?.🙂

My young life was awakening to Motocross and off road riding in this era. It was a fascinating time that changed the course of everything I became and did. I never became a Champion, but my existence was broadened in so many ways and gave me my best friends ever. This is a great little segment of film. Thanks for posting it.

MX racing was changing rapidly then. CZs were displacing the BSAs. No one wanted to ride a 750 in open class anymore. I remember that the first 2 strokes were just above 250cc to race in the open class, lite was faster.

Amazing stuff, no advertising, no safety gear besides a useless skull cap, no suspension, rubbish brakes, terrible ergonomics but visually fabulous

They weren't 16. Jeff Smith was at the end of his career, but always a tough competitor.

This was just before a new wave of younger riders appeared. Btu these were the guys that made MX popular in the U.S. In fact, I still have my copy of Jeff Smith's 1967 book, "The Art of Motocross." He signed it for me in 1992, at an ARHRMA race in California. He was active in vintage racing until very recently.
