Hello Dave, do you have any suggestions on good places to buy some horn, me and my Grandad are keen stick makers but since lockdown we can find any horn. Have you any ideas?

why would you season it dry if it is going to be soaked again into steam? Why can't you straighten it by heating it with a heat gun when it is fresh and its natural juice boils from the heat?????

I boiled a Buffalo horn for 4 hours and it barely bent at all. Seeing you boil something for 45 minutes and then you can ban I'm dead what's in that pot.
@woodlandsticks1365 Жыл бұрын
The important thing is to keep it hot after the boil. Have clamps and former ready. Clamp quickly to the former, then heat with a hot air gun where you want the first bend to be. The first bend is the hardest.

Just Video ! Just Subbed. 👍 Question : Can you bend a Full Curved Handle : with that Steam ? Or is their a different way to do this ? 🙄 Are certain Woods better than others. * Am a 'Younger' Stick user. Hate the Physio / Shop Metal ones ! Had a Garden Wild Cherry* Tree come down in Storm Arwen. Would a Tree Limb* from this bend into a fully curved Handle Stick ? Someone has offered to make me a Handmade one. Hope you can advise. 😉 Had a Accident, want a Stick to go over Arm, as also have Dexterity Issues, one less thing to drop when with Assistance Dog (!) L- Shaped Handles, are not my favourite. . . Although Disability Dog is trained to pick it up (!)

@@woodlandsticks1365, just an update Mr. Dave. After a little research, I’ve added Yaupon Holly, White Ash, Elm and something called Ironwood. Haven’t seen Ironwood yet, was told about it by a friend whose looking for some. Apparently, no Hazel exist in Texas that I know of. Is Hazelnut and Hazel the same tree? I so wish you’d make more videos. Assuming you’ve retired from it. Sure could use more of that working knowledge you’ve got locked up. Hope you are well.

Hello there, I'm absolutely making a straightening jig like yours. Thank you for showing your method; it's very helpful. I do have a question; in your experience, is there a significant difference between leaving the bark on the stick when leaving it to dry, or stripping it first?
@woodlandsticks1365 Жыл бұрын
If you peel the stick green you stand a chance of splitting, on the ends and through the middle. if you have a lot of sticks you could gamble. Dave
