Really enjoy your instructional videos! I've collected sticks from many different hikes over decades of years. Each having some meaning of the hike or trip. I've only just trimmed a bit, sanded and varnished then added some decoration to them. After watching you....I've started to add antler and looking at other materials available to me to the top my sticks. Now...engraving! Thanks for the videos and valuable info. From California.....thanks!

To this wonderful gentleman carving these canes: Bravo, Sir! You are a craftsman and artist. It amazes me that snowflakes can watch a great craftsman like this, who is such a joy to watch and hear.. and then do nothing but "complain" about him not wearing a mask, goggles, etc. etc. If they are so 'concerned' about doing everything just so, I suggest they focus on their own business and stay out of other's!

Hi Dave if you don't mind I have a question about drying my sticks a stick maker in the town where I live has told me to fasten my stick to a broom handle to stop them bending while drying out have you ever used this method

All that free calcium going to waste? I’m truly inspired by your videos, and I’m going to be doing this after retirement. When I see the antler/ scullcap dust when you work I can imagine why you’re not wearing a dust mask. Is it because the dust is the heavy particles type and so don’t fly around like other dry dust?
@woodlandsticks1365 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments. No dust is good for you , i usually carve over a dust extractor but it is too noisy when talking on video.

It would seem that if the antler could be stabilized in a vice of some sort, it would facilitate the entire operation.

Hello I'm need some advice. I'm found some good walking sticks in the woods it came from a tree that snapped in half. As I was preparing them yesterday I noticed a tiny dark circle from where I cut and it's kind of soft. I can cut pass that and it will fade out but you still can see a soft spot. If I take my pocket knife I can puncture a hole in it. Is this a bad limb? One of the limbs I can't use because I seen termites on one. But it seems like the tiny dark spot I noticed also comes at the other end which has a soft spot too. The tree is still fresh with green bark too
@woodlandsticks13657 жыл бұрын
All the sticks i use are cut green and seasoned for a year per inch .I have never used sticks that fall from trees .there must be young growth sticks to cut and use near you. Dave
@amamama87047 жыл бұрын
The tree was split in half by nature it seem pretty fresh I believe what I seen is normal but I did have to salvage some . I'm noticing there's a bigger risk in getting bad limbs from ground. I found some beautiful white oak trees in my area very excited
