Hey Sam, I know this is an old video but I wanted to ask when you fished the wires through the steering column area, did you just let the cable keep the slack? It looks like there is nothing to zip tie the cables to in that area, that is why I asked. I am trying to see if I can away without removing the fairing since it is such a pain and I would have to remove my top and bottom engine guards.
@SamVBikes2 күн бұрын
I've ziptied the cables to the frame where I can and to other bundles of wires to keep them in check. Leave a bit of slack in them for suspension travel etc but I know what you mean with the lack of places!

Genuinely thought the thumbnail was a picture of me when I saw this. I got the same colour and have had it since it came out. I do love the helmet but my one issue with it is the sizing. Padded inserts can be changed to suit but I found the cross over on size was different to some other brands. I'm like in-between sizes if you get me. Awesome lid though and you will get used to the mag clasp at some point. Good vid.

The main reason these slave cylinder fail is because of the circlip rusting, the rust then contaminants the seal coursing it to leak. If you remove the circlip, the piston and seal can be cleaned and reasonably and the leak will be sorted. The cure for this problem is simply replace the circlip with one made from stainless steel . I have changed the circlip on the slave cylinder on my 1290 to stainless steel. Bikes done 74000 miles and still on the original slave cyclinder. If the seal is knackered, the slave cyclinder will need replacing. KTM in there wisdom don't sell service kits for the slave cyclinder
@bikerguy33392 күн бұрын
The seal that fails is the one thats on the piston, the O ring you pointed out is the "seal" the slave cyclinder to the plastic part that sits behind the slave cyclinder lol....

I have a Krios Pro from ca. 2022, and it has the same issues you mention. I'll add on that my photochromic visor does not seal against the lower edge of the opening, which is Incredibly annoying. No doubt your crying into your coco pops about the very sad demise of KTM which will be speeded up by the cheap bikes coming out of China, but then you want to berate people for not wanting to buy Chinese made products because of their human rights, slave labour and blatant theft of intellectual property.

I use the same helmet as well, right down to the colors. My only complaint is the strap clasp as well, it makes me crazy somedays. Just when you think you've got it, you take off on the bike and then feel it let go......... arrrrrggggghhhhhh! Massive amounts of blue language later, you're sure it locked because you've almost wrenched your own head off pulling on it to check. Lmao....... first world problems.

Hi Sam, good thorough review, it seems like a really good lid. If I get to buy an adventure bike I may be looking for a new lid. I currently have a Bell flip front £250, and am very impressed with it. I bought it on recommendation as I couldn't afford the £400 for the Shoei at the time. The spec is excellent and it's splitting hairs for comfort. I think most things are made in China these days, or have Chinese parts, and that's only going to increase in the future.
@SamVBikes3 күн бұрын
Thank you pal! Yes it's a lot of money isn't it when you don't get a huge amount difference. The jump from the cheaper brands up to the more 'premium' ones does seem huge in terms of comfort and noise reduction. Have a great week bud

Had multiple Arais and Shoeis, and I now use an LS2. It's honestly as comfortable as my old Arai Giga, and unlike the Arai has ventilation that actually works. And it costs a fraction of an Arai. Who gives a toss that it's made in China? Most things are, these days.
@SamVBikes3 күн бұрын
Spot on mate! I've heard good things about the LS2!
@eddyhoughton65423 күн бұрын
@SamVBikes Come to think of it, changing out the visor on the last Arai I had was an absolute pain in the nuts. The ear-flap thingy actually broke, the mechanism was that flimsy. And it cost me a fortune to replace. No more Arais for me. The LS2 is easy as pie to work on.

I looked at these back in 2023 to replace a long-suffering TX3, but 2 separate Klim dealers warned me off them for road-only use (have to admire their honesty, but...weird). I ended up with a Quantic instead. Sod's law, the TX5 gets released 6 months later but I couldn't get on with it - feels too short in the face compared to the succession of previous TXs I've owned. I do have their Induction jacket and a pair of Outlanders, both exceptionally comfortable
@SamVBikes3 күн бұрын
Ohh that is odd! Did they say why? I wonder if there was more meaning behind it, or if it was merely them getting more profit from other brands. Heard that as an undertone to some dealers on other brands! Push you to buy a different item because they make a better margin
@alistair.a.cookie3 күн бұрын
@@SamVBikes In both cases they said that for mixed use they'd definitely recommend the Klim, but the TX was a better road helmet. Neither of them made a helmet sale, but I did buy the boots from one of them a couple of months later.

These have just landed in Australia. I had a set of Dunlop Trailmax Missions on my 2022 KTM SAR and they lasted about 2,500-3000 km mixed terrain (60/40 bitumen/dirt). The 1300cc tears through tyres. I had Motoz Tractionator GPS which lasted ages. I'm hoping thee 'Raids' last at least 10,000 plus. That's the problem with a SAR, you have to bank on a set of rears every year. I will say that dropping the psi on both front and rear does reduce the noise a bit and handling is better grip. But i've only done about 1,000km on them. Good video review though, agree so far with what you have reported. Good video.

I've been watching for a while now, and I've been super curious about what mirrors you have and what did you do with the original mounting points for the old mirrors? I'm definitely not a fan of the stock 1290 SAS mirrors.
@SamVBikes9 күн бұрын
They are Motogadget M.View Flight mirrors (sit down when you look at the price). Basically polished metal so they don't vibrate or smash if you drop the bike etc. They are on a spacer which I 3D printed between the bar and the Barkbusters. I used to run them on mounts which bolt through the Barkbusters rail, but this is a cleaner set up. Old mirror mounts have plus in. Definitely cheaper ways of doing it but I like shiny stuff so put the card details in pretending there is a 0 missing on the end
