I don’t give a shit about the noise that’s why you have a loud exhaust!

I had these on my r1200gsa. There is a lot to like in them. My problem with them was loud noise on the highway. It just kept getting louder and louder. One other thing was high speed stability. They seemed wobbly, maybe that was just on my bike.

I've done 4,000 mile on a set of Trailmax Raids, probs 25% offroad, and I agree with everything you said. I get a resonant hum at ~40 and ~80, nothing in between. The "grabby" bit on white lines & cats eyes makes filtering a challenge now. As with most 50:50, wet tarmac should be respected but these are by far the best in this area. I'll be replacing them with another pair, with the expectation being ~7,000 miles.

I can confirm the wobble on any lines or grooves in the road - it's really bad if you're not prepared for it. The noise at 70 km/h is also really annoying. The tire is otherwise doing very well, but I'm now looking for alternatives mainly because of the noise at 70 km/h.

Such a shame as those two things let the tyres down!

Arrived at the ABR on the Raids. Really cracking tyre! Great on & off road. Given that I seldom get off tarmac I went the other way & used the ABR deal to leave on a spanking new set of Meridans at £246 for the set!! Whilst I loved the Raids....it was an epic spin back to Ireland on the road biased tyres!

Thanks for sharing👍 I recently got the Meridians on mine. I don´t do heavy off road but a bumpy gravel road now and then. Really happy withe them in every condition. Road grip, wet or dry, is amazing. They are slightly noisy in fast turns. But that doesn´t bother me ( i am use to GS fork tunnel tire noise )

I loved having the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR on my 2018 SAS. They were chewing gum grippy, wet or dry, and rapidly warmed up. Terrible lifespan, tho. They also had the hum and vibration on motorways, as you described. But to this day, they are the only set of 50/50 that I know have the speed rating for these bikes.
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 4 ай бұрын
Yeah the STR's are great things on the road although I found them to be pretty average off road. Weren't much better than the Anakee Adventure 80/20's off road surprisingly so I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on them again when they only lasted 2k miles when I had them

Got a set of these on my Tiger 1200 Really Pro, been really happy with them. Trying to find the limit on road, still looking for it. I ride with a bunch of mates that have got 100% road tyres, keeping up with them is a struggle on the fast twisty stuff, as you'd expect. But get onto more rough roads and you catch them again. They love to spin the rear wheel, which makes the rides fun.

Ey'up Sam, I'm not suggesting you go out intending to find some but have you come across any patches of gravel on a corner and what's been the reaction? More and more as our roads disintegrate it ends up as gravel on the twisties. I was torn between my second set of Mutants and these but the Mutants have been exceptional and getting 6.5K out of them. Ta Jay
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 4 ай бұрын
Haha I tend to avoid gravel nowadays! Although they have been pretty solid in all corners. You do get the little skip in the rear occasionally but for the most part, they are solid. The Mutants are definitely a more road focused tyre so if you're two up, I'd probably stick to those

@@SamVBikes Thank you for the prompt response. I have had these tyres for approx the same period of time and have probably been riding 50% dirt/sand and 50% road. My personal feedback is as follows (on a Pan America special): Dirt/gravel - extremely satisfying as compared to the Anakee Adventure. Quite tractable and compliant with directional inputs through the body Sand/rocks - as with most tyres, very difficult to have a tyre that manages sand well. But, they behaved as expected and did not find wanting anything more from them Road - I am very agressive on the road and drag pegs on the big girl on Anakee Adventure (good tyre for the street and gravel). These, as you pointed out, behave almost like a true nobby on the road. Directional changes require significant input and they feel quite loose at both ends. However, dial back to say 70% and they are managable. My biggest issue, after a 25km spirited run, the tyres showed more damage than 1,000km on the dirt

Any idea how these compare on wet tarmac compared to the Mitas E0-7+ ? I've been running the Mitas for over a year now and for wet tarmac I wouldn't want a tire that gives less confidence on wet roads, so basically I'm just trying to find out if they have less, around the same or better grip than the Mitas.

Mine are the Powerparts heavy duty wheels which are decent. The only thing I don't like about them is the seal in the middle to make them tubeless. Very very easy to ruin the seal when changing tyres if you do it yourself with tyre irons

Sam, I've looked at a lot of reviews on this tyre and none have said how hard/stiff the sidewalls are compared to the Heidenau K60 (which I currently run) or my other option the Mitas 07+ , both of which are a 'stiff' tyres and for me much more puncture resistant than some "off road looking" tyres ..I mostly ride on road but find the K60 very good in all weather's and also seem resistant to urban type punctures. So are these Dunlops going to be as strong as the K60 .
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 4 ай бұрын
I haven't tried the K60's so I couldn't comment on them. I ride into London regularly where there are a lot of nails and glass etc in the middle of the road which I filter on, and I've had no issues as yet. The sidewalls didn't all the bike to move around off road which is good

Hi Sam I’m picking up my new 1290 SAS in a couple of weeks I’ve got the wire spoked wheels fitted and was going to fit TKC80’s which I’ve had on several bikes including BMW GS’s and they lasted about 2000 miles. Why I find everyone who drives at 1st rally setting on tarmac - suspicious. It is totally unnecessary. 4th setting never limits anything you can do on tarmac. Means people don't understand what they're using. 6th setting is barely limiting on tarmac, still allows decent wheelies and skids. 7th setting is where the limiting is impacting skids and wheelies.
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 4 ай бұрын
Not sure why it's suspicious. I like to ride the bike as raw as possible without giving up the full safety net. Having it on 1 has saved me on extreme slides when the rear wheel has gone too far to save for my skill. I've done 44,000 miles testing different settings and that's how I like to ride it
