My dear friend, I understand your "puristic" attitude. Buuuuut, addons like BoxCutter, Fluent, ND, name it, are not intended to change the behavior of Blender. All these addons, do not make a better Blender. They only improve your workflow by not having to move your fingers from the keyboard to execute a command. Or that you don't have to execute three commands, but only one click. This saves a lot of time when modeling. Time that you always emphasize is very scarce for you. With BoxCutter you may have to spend a week learning it, after that everything is very easy. Photographer, for example, helps me a lot with the settings for rendering, without this addon I would have to spend a lot of time until I can start a render and laboriously click through the menus. In the addon, everything is clearly laid out and quickly accessible. To each his own, I love addons. Not that I have hundreds of them, but I would miss Machine Tools, Meshmachine, Decalmachine, HOPS/Boxcutter and a few others if I didn't have them anymore. But as I said, these are the eternal discussions for working with or without addons. I find the addons increase my productivity and that's what I need. Amen.

I completely understand the struggle about trying to include as many people as possible when doing tutorials. I try to only use free add-ons in Blender and stick to Blender as much as possible. However, I also have separate tutorials for things like Substance Painter/Designer. It is hard because I don't want to make people feel left behind just because they can't afford something like Substance.

There is an add on that comes with Blender called Carver. It was written by the guy who created Speedflow, if you know what that is(similar to hard ops). It's pretty basic but it does a lot of the boolean stuff. Comes in handy, some times.
