I found out about this woman through another R&B legend, ever heard of Anita Baker?😂 No words to describe Sarah Vaughn, this is my favorite, the way she hits those high notes , she was communicating joy thru this song and for the first time i could understand cuz i had that same feeling when i listen to this song. Music is a good thing but i could listen this girl's accopella and and feel just as good

Some singers are great singers only.On the other hand, some singers are absolutely great,accomplished musicians.Sarah is definitely in that category, along with Dinah Washington and a very few others.

The many-hued voice and minimal musicianship: single piano notes, drummer's brushes on cymbals, bowed standup bass, then all the instruments pausing for sassy Vaughan to build the climax. Remarkable. Thank you for this!

I just don't care for her inpretation/embellishment of this particular song. Sondheim's lyric's don't need any kind of interpretation. The words speak for thsemselves. in all other ways Sarah Vaughn was musical royalty in my opinion, along with Ella.
