What I don't get is why they don't line these things with aluminium so you don't need an anode? When I replaced the heater in my RV they put in an aluminium one. No anode.

Nothing wrong with the #14 pig if you're breaker is 15-amp, why un-breaker? upgrade later, ie. someone decides down the road to install a higher amp device. I have had homes I wish they had run the entire structure in 12ga. But I understand your point never under wire your OCPD.

Non contact voltage tester and an outlet tester are meant to be quick and convenient, A multimeter and a clamp on meter are also very useful, but not exactly always quick and convenient. Therefore you can’t really compare, You can cut an electric wire with lineman’s pliers or you can use a side cutter which is designed for that specific purpose, You’re very obviously trying to sell an item not needed by someone who has those other 3 tools.

As a female house-cleaner I have saved many of my clients time, money & energy. First step b4 removing any piping. I use my metal hook that I've made by simply bending the end of a metal bbq skewer with pliers, i insert it under the plug into the drain, all the stuff easily gets pulled out, no need to remove piping unless it is in the p-trap of wall pipe. I do this small check/clean-up every 3- 4 mnths. Easy, Effective, Economical!

You need to mention lubricating the wheel axles. Our opener was stopping short of the bottom and going back up. We knew it wasn't a sensor problem and tracks looked undamaged. My wife tried wd40 which didn't work at all. So we applied a lubricant specially made to lubricate the wheel axles called blaster and it work like a charm. Our door does a trick where it slows down about 8 inches above the floor so it was at this point our door was bouncing back up.

I heard this before but my annual maintenance technicians keep telling me we don't have to do anything with the tank. The last one said just keep an eye on it because it is already 10 years old. The previous tank was changed after 15 years and it was still working fine. I used to drain some of the dirt every six months. The manual for this tank says it should be done too. Confused.

Another view should be the usability, most products like side connect extension cords, or jack multipliers are designed for ground plugged down.

Pleasant review. Have wondered about this for a long time after an inspector told us we would have to have an electrician properly install the receptacles grounding prong down before selling. Old house. Receptacles had both directions going for themselves. Since then I've wondered which way would be best for finding the holes with the plug in the dark in a hard to reach area. It seems having the prong in hand pointed downward would make it easier to blindly find the receptacle's orientation. OFF TOPIC: Your presentation Adam, is thoroughly detailed, yet not boring at all. Hence I trust what you have provided. I assume there's a new NEC Manual provided every year? Perhaps you would consider video recording a summary which covers the entire manual. A summary of it and additional material if required such as math and algebra story problems would be a perfect lead-in for you to sell a video set which covers the entire manual. When I visited State offices which covered certification for home inspectors, I concluded pursuit of such knowledge would be more trouble than it's worth to become certified and that the process limitations seemed to prevent competition. Maybe you and a few others would be willing to establish a knowledge collective for skilled tradesmen and women? There are fewer and fewer today. Tradesmen skills as Frederick Douglass supported combined with the abstract skills of leadership as Booker T Washington advocated would in my opinion create a new status quo and make America a class-free society again.

I couldn’t get the anode to unscrew on my 1 year old water heater. Tried a half inch impact gun, then a breaker bar with a 3foot pipe cheater slipped over it. Even had to use ratchet straps to keep the tank from spinning. The nut is very short and starting to round off. Gave up.

Just discovered your channel and I've used this particular video to install a USB receptacle. It was a big help! I haven't installed a receptacle in 10 years so it was relatively new experience again. A few things that I struggled with so others can learn from my mistakes: 1) I could not get the black and white wires out of the old receptacle--they were not like this (coiled around the screw). They went straight in the back of the receptacle but no amount of tugging pulled them out. I went as far as completely removing the screws before realizing they were the type of receptacle that required sticking something small in the small square hole to release the wires. And yes the inscription on the back made that instruction loud and clear but I didn't think about reading the back of the receptacle. Live and learn. 2) I struggled getting the ground wire underneath the brass/(copper?) plate underneath the ground screw. I ended up unscrewing it until it almost fell out, then pressed my finger against the plate so that it pushed against the screw. After a bit of finagling, I got it to hook inside and traverse down the intended groove. And a big thanks to your video for specifically calling out to put the wire underneath the plate. I would have put them between the plate and screw. 3) Unless you have a great work light or head lamp, work during the day. Thinking this would be a quick project that I could knock out in 5-10 mins, I started near sunset--I wanted to get it done and not wait til the next day. I had handheld flashlights and that was a big frustration. Lesson learned: either get a great work light or work during the day (or both). I'll be doing more of these but thanks again for showing the way.

This video subscription is generally very good (I have learned much from it), but this particular video (for me) raises more questions than it answers (Line/load?, One black is different from the other black?, How the tiny device obsoletes a surge protector when it only provides two outlets versus multiple?).
@HowToHomeDIYКүн бұрын
😂 if you have some of those questions, you probably should not do anything with electrical.

@@HowToHomeDIY My point in watching the videos is to learn about electrical. I have learned a lot from watching many previous episodes but felt frustrated with this one since it brought up some unfamiliar concepts and I am used to your helpful explanations. Maybe I missed an earlier episode which already covered the concept of line/load and why the two black lines are not the same.

Some molded plugs have 90⁰ cord to prongs, which may dictate the orientation of the receptacle
@davidbee8178Күн бұрын
Funny but A LOT of PRODUCTS are made to plug in with the ground prong DOWN -- for instance a multi plug (that allows you to plug in more than 2 items) when plugged into your receptacle has it's plastic "dummy" ground prong in the DOWN position because all the writing on the multi plug is facing UP when the plastic guide in the back of it is meant to be inserted into the ground prong in the down position. Sorry - this may not make a lot of sense the way I'm explaining it here but if you pick up a 4 or six multi plug intended to plug into one of the outlets showed here, you will see what I mean :-)

Wages are still creating plenty of work for me. It's always the installation, though, and not the direct fault of the Wago. An experienced electrician would have mentioned how to determine what length to cut each wire. Not just the minimum length required, but how to group the wires at the back of the box before trimming them for length. This makes for a much neater box as well as lessening the chance for a wire being under stress. Overall, this was a good presentation with only a couple of errors in terminology; solid conductor - not solid core, and power doesn't flow through wires. Minor things, but you'll get laughed at. Thanks for the presentation.
