After reading so many reviews of various robot failures, crap customer service and horrible app controls, I will stick with my Polaris 280. It’s purely mechanical, no motors or electronics, cheap and easy to service, parts are readily available. It does require a 3/4 hp pump, which I don’t like. And the finest filter bag isn’t super fine. It does have great leaf bags when you need that. It climbs the walls a little but not like a robot. And certainly can’t clean the water line. Man I wish these robots had better reviews because I want one!!! You can wrap a piece of Scotchbrite on the end of the 280 tail and get a bit of scrubby action out of it. But you have to pull it out of the pool to get the Ariel robotic skimmer to work. Ariel will hang up on the Polaris floating hose and damage the motors. So that’s a PIA. All in all the Polaris 280 doesn’t measure up to a robot but it is a dead simple mechanical design, easy to fix, (relatively) cheap and does clean the floor. Sigh. If someone develops a robot that gets a lot fewer one star reviews I want to try it.

This view point makes sense but coming from someone who has worked on both I do think a lot of the 1 star reviews come from people who have "unrealistic" expectations. Where they want a swamp pool clean in no 2 hours for example. Linus tech tips made a video on the beatbot (which I still don't think is as good as dolphin) but he really points out that that kind of expectation is very unrealistic. Now to reliability. I do find that MOST owners do not take care of their robots.... Sadly. For example look at my community posts on the channel. I see most cleaners that are left in the pools high chlorine levels after shocking or bathed in the sun outside to where the cord is disintegrating and internal parts and seals are dried up due to the chlorine. Or they are used in unrealistic circumstances.. after flocking, whole pool covered in leaves, etc. they are maintenance tools for sure but they aren't supposed to replace all aspects as I'm sure your Polaris doesn't. Now. Polaris. You mentioned a lot of upkeep. Usually they are cheaper but as you said this upkeep is something you have to deal with more often than a robot because Polaris usually live in the pool connected to the pump. With robots they could technically be used in same situation but keep in mind also leads to more maintenance (more expensive maintenance) when used in this manner. The robots are more efficient then the Polaris suction sides and don't require needing to run every day and thus shouldn't need to be in the pool all the time. If they are taken out and used sparingly they will last longer and you shouldn't run into the maintenance. And you can lose the booster pump as well. You'll gain scrubbing for algae prevention and better filtration and it sounds like you know how to take care of your purchase. We have warranty rate of around .25% which is very good. That's why I think a lot of reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt for sure. Feel free to ask me any specific questions you might have after reading this. I'm sure I'm missing some other points here

Hello - I have a 17x32 in ground vinyl pool with drop in steps. Would you recommend the s200 over any of the nautilus models? Also is the s200 different than the quantum or is it literally just a reskin? The quantum got bad reviews on amazon. My local pool robot servicer is recommending the s200
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 12 күн бұрын
S200 is similar to quantum. I find that a lot of people on Amazon have insanely high expectations. Especially for a base line unit. The quantum and s200 should ideally be ran 2-5 times a week in season. It shouldn't be left in the pool all the time either. People often complain about how short theirs lasted, tangling cord, or missing stuff in the pool. All are avoidable issues if you run the unit enough, take it out of the pool and keep the cable neat, use the right filters in the right situation, and not expose it to high chlorine levels. A lot of people think that it can clean any pool in any situation in 2 hours which won't be the case if the pool is a swamp. Which ends up happening most times. People get them in the spring most of the time, then complain they don't clean their swampy spring pool just opened in 1 cycle. There are more expensive units out there that are better but the value on s200 can't be beat as long as you run it enough to keep up with the pool. Basically your saving money by buying a cheaper unit than stronger units but it requires needing to run more so it can keep up.

Warrior SI. After brushing steps I throw it in to pick up the fine debris. It passes right over some yellow gunk and doesn't pick it up. Impeller had like 2 strands of hair. Clean. But maybe less suction if it been worn down over 4 years? Quick drain flap was open. I reformed it and securely closed now. Still runs over fine debris and doesn't pick up. Brushes look ok. The skirt around the bottom (set of 10) looks a little worn. Why isn't she picking up fine debris? There is a lot of yellowish crud when I clean the ultra fine filters. But still a bit left on floor if pool. Thanks!

Try taking off the flap on the bottom of the basket. that will increase you suction but you just need to be careful getting the robot out of the pool in a way so it doesn't fall out when pulling it up. Also try just fine filters. that would also increase your suction

@thedolphindoctor ... awesome. Just ordered a new no return flap for the bottom of the basket even though it's 90% good. Will try removing it for a bit. Also ordered new rubber strips for the bottom (some say they don't make much of a difference). Will take a look at fine filters to increase suction. But will fine filters trap dead algae? Had FC up to 41 for mustard shock and new parts to keep the cleaner going strong for years. Bonus question: on either side of the bottom next to the main suction port is another port. They are controlled open/closed based on a heavy weight on a pendulum. Seems they would only open if the machine was in a nose dive or on its back. When it says the distance is a max of 50ft, what does that actually mean? What if I put the machine in at middle of the pool? Let’s say the pool is 60ft long. If I put the machine in at the 30 ft mark, would it be able to go 50 ft each way? This E70 seems so much better than the wave 60 and 80 and those are more expensive too.
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 15 күн бұрын
technically speaking yes. However cord length is only one side of the issue. if the pool is too big it might not get covered consistently in a 2 or 2.5 hour timeframe. the cord is 60 feet long but you have to also account for the depth of the pool hence why they say 50 ft. Also you would need the power supply right on the edge of the pool at that point. Dolphin says not to use extension cords as they can mess with the life of the power supply as well as being a hazard if dragged into the pool. The wave line has less bells and whistles but has commercial grade brushless motors which last a lot longer. leading the the price difference.

OK, I have watched their videos. They are really well done. I bought M400 through Pelican for about 230$ more than the other known distributor under the promise of their superior insurance. My summary after the 4 weeks of using it. Positive - relatively easy to operate. In the areas where it goes, it cleans well. It climbs the walls. Nice looking. Negatives: 1. The caddie is a joke, very difficult to store the cable on it, the power supply falls off easily, just some cheap plastic design. 2. The M400 does what it is supposed to do, but - it goes in random ways, so we have to run it at least twice to cover most of our smaller 15,000-gallon pool. 3. It does not climb well on any steps, even deeper ones (very rarely). It leaves the corners "green". 4. The application is VERY simple, with no map or anything just push the button. We will keep it but Please do yourself a favor and study more.

Unfortunately no cleaner is going to get into the absolute corners of steps. Due to not being able to fully fit on each step individually. Not many cleaners can and if they do they are too small to cover the pool in a convenient amount of time and will fill up before it's done due to being smaller with less space. The caddy. You are supposed to wrap the cord by hand before putting it on the caddy wrapping the cord around it won't work well due to how the cord is already in a "memorable" coil shape out of the box. Trying to coil it tightly around the caddy is fighting against that. It's very much a trade off with some aspects of the cleaning across any cleaner. Do you want more suction power then you will have less filtration quality. Do you want to fit it smaller corners or on steps then you need a much! Smaller unit that will fill up before doing the whole pool. Do you want more app features and such, then usually the cost goes up as well as more glitches as most people have been saying about beatbot and other brands. My research is done with now 7 + years in the field. I think I know a thing or too.

depends on how extreme. you can get away with an E20 at $599 and put the ultra fine filter basket seperately for $80-100 and get away under $700. or you can go with an S200 at $1099 that comes with the filters and also the $100 rebate...... both units will clean the pool as long as you run them enough to keep up. they are more PREVENTATIVE and excel as keeping the pool clean if you run them consistently (3-5 days a week) both will still take numerous cycles to clean an already filthy pool.

@@thedolphindoctor Thanks for the advice. So the E20 and the other $499 models are all the same. I had my pool filter pump and robot cleaner break at the same time this spring so my pool budge is stretched thin. I have solar panels so running it all the time is not a problem. I live near farms and river with a strong delta breeze in California. I need to get the ultra fines that can collect when its windy. I think both recommendations will do at least as good as my 20 year old Dolphin did. And it did well.

E50 is solid. Not many reviews because it's not popular. It's the same overall design as s300,s400 or any other single drive basket model with wifi. The reviews should all be considered the same in reality. You also have to think to yourself "did the people leaving bad reviews take care of it or was it left to die early by being left in high chlorine 24/7 or used in sub par condition" I've seen cleaners last 2 years and I've seen the same cleaner last 8-10 it's all about how people take care of it. Also depends on how high people's expectations are. Some people get upset it doesn't clean a swamp in 2 hours and will leave a bad review when in reality no cleaner can clean a swamp dead pool in 2 hours.

Hello, we have a 12'x35' (3feet to 6feet depth) inground pool whose pop up system is not working properly. About 1/3 of the pop ups do not pop up & there are bubbles coming out of the ones that do pop up. I was told that it would cost a lot to change out the pop ups & that it may be better to get a pool vacuum. Because the pop ups don't all work, the water does not turn over like it should, it is not pushing the dirt to the drain like it was intended (pool is 20 years old). We were thinking that we would turn off the pop up system and use a vacuum to clean. I take care of the pool and really not interested in cords so I was looking at the cordless models. Since we travel and are not always at home, I didn't want to keep the bot in the pool while we are away. So I was thinking that when we are away we could remove the bot and just use the pop up system with our pool person coming weekly to maintain the levels. With all this being said, we have 2 trains of thought (1) turn off pop up system and get the Liberty 400 or (2)keep the pop up system on and get a less expensive cordless to work along side. What are your thoughts? TIA

I have a 2019 model nautilus CC and the wear items (Wheels/Bushings/Brush Bushing/Brush Adaptor/Brush gear /Drive Gear) all lasted 3 years on the original and since then I am wearing these parts out in 8-12 months and parts are very hard to get without 3,4,6 week lead-times. Last order took 8 weeks for some wheels! Pool is open year round and I run 3 cycles back-to-back once a week. Unit is only in the water when it is running a cycle, otherwise it is stored upside down, cord coiled neatly and basket cleaned. My local "Elite Dealer" has told me last week to move on from dolphin as the quality has tanked and parts are very difficult to get, they are going to stop selling Dolphin and moved to Polaris.

A lot of dealers do not stock those parts as it's not a commonly replaced part. Usually those types of parts are usually delegated to special orders since most shops won't overturn that inventory consistently. Most dealers will just say nope they can't get it. If they don't stock it they can order if from dolphin which will take a week or so and then they have to ship it. I find that most stores just don't like to do this for the low $$ profit of the parts. If you call Monday I can see what I have vs what I would need to order. I know the bushings are out of stock by dolphin currently. Usually this tends to happen towards the end of the season (August). Keep in mind this is usually the same issue with Polaris. Those "elite dealers" that are switching won't have the equivalent Polaris parts either most likely. Dolphins quality is still above Polaris in my opinion. Most parts are widely available for dolphin. A lot of dealers are still mad about the parts shortages during the pandemic. All these stores carried dolphin. And MOST do /did not stock parts on their own so whenever they needed something of course it was going to be out of stock due to sheer demand. Meanwhile Polaris back then wasn't as big so it gave the impression that OH Polaris has their parts they are much better.. in reality all brands during that time has shortages. And luckily we stock most parts upfront every season to avoid those issues. A lot of stores didn't prepare correctly and blame dolphin. Yes the shortages were bad but the pandemic was the cause not so much dolphin. The lead times stuck for some parts due to stores needing to special order them. I would buy these parts in sets of 2 so you have a cushion. Most likely you have a silty material grinding these pieces down. When you take the unit out I would hose behind the tracks and within the nooks of the wheels to dry to dislodge most of this between cycles. You can also try to contact backyard pool superstore as they have a lot of parts stocked from my understanding

@@thedolphindoctor Thanks for the reply and explanation on the parts stocking situation and I have definitely started to keep a set on-hand at all times and re-order once I consume since I am only getting 8 month or so out of wheels before the tracks start coming off / gears start skipping. The bushings aren't really wearing, it is the wheels themselves. I will call Monday. Funny you should mention backyard pool superstore, they simply replied "We apologize but we don't have availability for the parts you currently need". Didn't even offer to order or provide a lead-time. I like the dolphin nautilus CC as it does everything I need it to with no fuss or complications, except for not wearing out.

Has anyone been able to get the end notification on an Apple iPhone yet? I see a lot of people have problems with it. I also don’t get the notification at the end of the cycle. Recently the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth doesn’t seem to work is there anyway to replace this without having to buy a brand new power supply?

Try deleting and reinstalling the app. I feel like recently the app has been buggy and might be causing the issue. Usually a reset like this solves most issues

I have a 47x24 free form pool with white plaster. There are multiple levels- it goes from 3.5' to 8.5' and there are no real straight edges along the bottom (not squared off like some rectangular pools). We tried the beatbot aqua sense pro (the "alleged/supposed" absolute best of the best in cordless) but it failed fairly significantly leaving wide and long swaths of dirt after almost 4 hours in their custom beta mode (which was supposed to correct the issue). Is the problem my pool? I love this video and the advice on corded vs cordless-- I've been swayed back to corded and will be trying the M600 or active 60 unless you feel that no auto/robot type vacs will give me at least 90-95% cleaning on the floor. Let me know- I've looked everywhere but all reviews are being funded now and very few are from non-influencers so I absolutely appreciate this series. Let me know please.

@thedolphindoctor Ай бұрын
You are in the same boat as a lot of people with the beat bot. Most reviews and articles are paid for. Bad reviews are censored. I see it every year with brands that come and go. No cleaner will advertise 100% of your pool but usually the realistic goal is 95 to 99% If I'm imagining the floor to wall transition in my mind correctly you should be fine. Non hard angles are better than hard angle transition from floor to wall. As long as you take advantage of the different cycle options I think you'll be satisfied. Make sure you make use of the floor only mode when the pool is dirty. Might take a few cycles to get any pool clean depending on how bad it is. You just need to find out how often you need to run it every week to have it not get so bad where one cycle isn't enough You should put an honest review on the beat bot and see if it's deleted or ever posted. I would make your opinion known on the facebooks pages or reddit if you want other people to see through the lies

@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 2 ай бұрын
Either one but M600 will be easier to clean out, It will do a better job cleaning the waterline, has less parts overall, and has two important features that might seem like a "bell and whistle" feature. FLOOR ONLY and the PICK UP MODE. both these features come in handy. FLOOR ONLY to focus on the floor where the debris is. so the robot doesn't get distracted with the walls when your just trying to vacuum debris out. and PICK UP MODE so you don't pull on the cord to take the robot out of the pool. this will cause the robots cord to last longer so no possibly breaks happen at the detangler part of the cable from the pressure of pulling on it. M600s basket design will be a lot easier to clean out as well compared to the cartridges. M400 is still a slightly better value in terms of specs and bang for your buck but if you value convenience M600 is a better value at that point

Hi appreciate the great review and explaining things out in simply layman terms. Which one is these corded Dolphins is comparable to Polaris P965IQ? What's your thoughts on the Polaris P 965 IQ compared to a similar Dolphin?
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 2 ай бұрын
closest in terms of specs would be either M400 or M600 but the design is pretty different from what polaris has going on with the big wheels. I find that polaris often has over complicated designs with more parts that become a pain to work on. They also lack the filtration quality that the Dolphins have. Dolphin is often a bit more $$$ but the quality of parts is also higher compared to what Polaris uses in my opinion

I can set it for 2.5. I run the manual cycle at 2.5 hours ultra clean, when the cycle is complete the timer goes back to 2.0. Thanks for information, while I was awaiting your response, I disassembled the unit from tracks down to motor. I removed all debris from tracks including algae. Since preforming the above, self test working and unit is now working in the pool. btw I purchased this unit second hand. Not well looked after. @thedolphindoctor

I have a Nautilus CC Plus. Actually have 2 of them when one of the power supplies was acting up I bought a second one. There's 2 main performance issues I have with it and i'm looking to upgrade. I already have a CADDY so I don't need that. My CC Plus almost always get stuck on my steps. It's really annoying. And the second issue is i'm having a hard time keeping the pool clean. I have the FINE and ULTRA fine filters. I always keep the ultra fine filters in it. But i can literally see the dirt on the floor, it'll roll over it, pick it up, and i'll see the pump spit it back out the top. I've checked the filters and they don't have any holes in them. Any suggestions what I should upgrade to? Any will any of the other units use the same power supply that I currently have since i have 2 of them?
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 2 ай бұрын
some units have a dual layer filter in addition to the other filter types in the basket / cartridge. this might help your situation. the CC plus is known to get stuck on steps due to the weight distribution within the cleaner. Usually raising or lowering the waterline will help. Either that little bit of extra buoyancy will help it not get stuck. or lowering it a little will make it not get up there in the first place. Not sure what would be getting through the ultra fine filters though. You can try moving to a basket design to see if that helps. or an M400 for an upgrade of what you already have but without the weight distribution issues I mentioned earlier.

try putting it in the pool upside down first to help release any air pockets. check your pH as well. if its high it leads to floating issues. wheelies are normal for some robots to rotate directions and might look exaggerated on the ramp down to the deep end.

Why do the 3 cleaners that are $1499 have that "arm" that is above the cleaner? What is the purpose?
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 2 ай бұрын
it is needed for the cartridge designs that have the waterline cleaning feature. It basically helps with buoyancy to allow it to move left or right at the waterline. The basket designs don't need it due to having counterweights and added floats internally.
