I have a Dolphin Oasis Z5 that is 10 yrs old and I have taken it out after each cycle. Never had any plastic degradation issue. Plus, why would I want to keep it in the pool when not in use?? My biggest issue has been the vacuum getting stuck on the two main drain covers in the deep end. Drives me crazy!! (I turn the pump off when running the vacuum). Great video!

One of the rubber tracks came off the edge so we took apart our Dolphin Nautilus CC plus and were able to pop it back in place. I cleaned out the impeller and looked over both sides of tracks and didn't see any debris. We put everything back together and then after placing in the pool to test it, it would only move forward a few inches to climb up the wall then fall down again and did this repeatedly for 5 minutes. I then took it out of the pool again to run the self test where I placed the Dolphin upside down and powered it on. I heard the motor from the impeller run, then the tracks moved freely to go forward, backward, then forward again. I tried taking out the cartridges and put it in the pool again then power it on and see it is not moving at all. I take it out of the pool again and put the cartridges back in and run the self-test again this time with Dolphin upright on the concrete and nothing happens, no movement. I wiggle the power cord a little bit then the impeller starts and then it goes through the self test to move forward and backward again. Do you think I have an old cord that needs to get replaced or something else is the issue? My Dolphin is about 6 years old and has been running well pretty much the whole time until now.

If you can’t leave it in the pool, Maytronics should remove the timer feature that encourages leaving it in the pool.

Its not so much that as the issue, a lot of people come from a suction side cleaner which was always set to run whenever the pump was running (on a schedule) and that it always has been a feature since a long time ago across all brands. Its fine if you do it and its obviously capable of doing so but its a double edged sword as mentioned. some people are fine with replacing it more often but if you want to get the most life then I would take it out. The scheduling is good for when you will not be around like vacation or so on. Or a middle ground would be use the schedule 5 days a week but plan on 2 days of being out while you shock the pool and let that chlorine level drop. Its not so much leaving it in being the issue its what its in chemically...
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 11 ай бұрын
I think they should put more obvious warnings on what high level chlorine will do over time. I find that most people will do all their maintenance work on 1 day. they shock the pool and then throw the cleaner in.... Thats the worst thing you can do. Its in the instruction about the being in below 4ppm recommended range in terms of chlorine but its overlooked often. I think the feature should always be offered because its often sought after but people just dont know the consequences. If dolphin axed the feature it would put them at a disadvantage in terms of other brands. although better it will be viewed as a negative.

Nice video man, nicely detailed and informational. My nautulis has recently started the 10 minutes and quit thing. Unfortunately it's not the impeller or dirty filters. I'm thinking it's the cable because sometimes it will just continue moving again after sitting there for 30 minutes. Super weird

could be the motor then. you can try unscrewing the anti swivel on the cable from the fatter end. If its the cable thats where the issue will be. If not that its probably the motor.

Currently shopping for a new dolphin, current Neutilus CC lasted 4 years. It was in the pool nonstop year around as I leave the pool open year round. (South Texas). Only took it out when we were swimming. Cord started to peel and it’s faded. Only problem I ever had before it finally gave out was the rubber tracks would come off and the cord would tangle sometime. Other than that I was very pleased. Based on the video, I will not be leaving the new one in the pool nonstop. Also had no idea about the impeller fan. 😭 Thanks for an informative video.

My Pentair Prowler/Dolphin Warrior Si moves forward as you hear and see the left (big wheel part) track jump a bit, then it moves backwards stops as it starts doing the same again and finally moves forward a couple inches stops and light turns off. My impeller has nothing stuck in it. I also replaced the brush assembly for the large wheel part and still the same. Any ideas?

its most likely the servo within the motor compartment. Usually that isnt a replaceable part on its own and would just require a whole new motor box. it is a fairly easy replacement but the cost of the motor box can be between $400- $500. The moving forward both ways then stops symptom is usually impeller clog or this.

The commercial units have brushless motors which are rated to last longer. They cost a lot more and dont have wifi. Wave 60 is the most afforable commercia unit. I’m in the market for a new cleaner and am seriously considering the Dolphin Cayman. I currently have a Pentair Rebel suction cleaner that has been in my pool since 2017. However even after the most recent tuneup it’s just not working properly. That being said, the fact that I would have to take out the robotic cleaner every time I use it is a bit annoying. I’m not kidding when I say the Pentair Rebel has lived inside my pool since 2017. I guess I have to figure out what do I value more…the fact that I would be able to use the skimmer with a robot or a suction pool cleaner that has been trouble free for a very long time but no skimming abilities. The thought of the robot is very intriguing to me though. The initial price difference is not that big of a deal ($399 for the Rebel vs $779 for the Cayman) but the maintenance cost of the robot vs the suction cleaner is concerning to me. I guess I have some more research to do before I decide to buy my next cleaner….
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 2 ай бұрын
I would say its a trade off. the more its in the more convenient it is but maintenance cost would be up due to the degradation of parts being quicker. its a tough switch coming from a suction side as I did myself back in the day HOWEVER usually the maintenance cost of the suction side with either sometime of repair happening annually or bi-annually is why those suction sides "last long". The robots introduce brushing and better vacuuming filtration that I find worth it. Not sure what you mean by skimming as they wont skim the top of the pool. they will brush the top of the wall which is the "waterline" cleaning. Its worth the switch and if you take it out you should not have tons of maintenance compared to suction side. In the store I work at we sell dolphin but still have a good 30% of repairs be just yearly suction side maintenance which can add up to be $100-150 every year which is insane. Robots should not have that maintenance IF TAKEN OUT of the high chlorine. suction side goes for dirt, leaves etc. Robot goes for dirt, leaves, stuff you cant see with the ultra fine filters, scrubbing which is good to dismiss algae growth, and they dont need to run nearly as long which is less cost compared to running the pump to have the suction side work.

yes impeller zcomplete clean and free. Also My vacuum runs the full cleaning cycle no problem and I did the out of water test which it passed. Not sure if related but when I pull debris basket out often it becomes stuck and pulling harder causes debris door to release, dumping debris all over inside vacuum. Obviously not the design or how it first worked. Maybe something with springs inside on bottom? Also does this with another basket so not basket related.

@@obiwansattic35 not sure. The basket definitely seems off. Sometimes silty sand or the very small debris can act like a "glue" and makes it hard to take out but usually once it's out hosing the inside out and the basket to clean off that stuff fixes the issue. @thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 7 ай бұрын
yup! this will do it. the plastics on the wheels can also get grinded down by sand or sand like silt over time. Once in a while try to shoot the wheels and brushes and behind / underneath the hard to reach spots with a hose to get that sand build up out. Cord will start to deteriorate and get sticky. Chlorine and ph- is corrosive. unfortunately nothing can really withstand those levels over time, even liners fade etc. I would try to encourage any fellow owners that this is really what kills these things early. if you avoid when you shock the pool and using the robot at the same time you should avoid a those really corrosive levels though. just give it two days to go back down then throw the robot in for the other 5 days. @@thedolphindoctor the power supply is working the propeller is working but the tracs are not moving at all. It is a dolphin nautilus cc plus iot cb. I bought it a year ago.

The pin might be loose that attaches to the tracks. Turn it on outside. Upside down. You should hear the drive motor turn on first and then a few seconds late the humm of the fan. At this point we can assure that the drive motor is working. At that point we know it's either the pin or something to do with the tracks causing the issue. The pin I'm talking about is what connects the motor and the track wheels.

was working great, but now it always gets stuck on the side of the steps. I've checked everything. So frustrating.

im assuming your talking about the cc plus. are both floats still on the cable. Is water level high enough? Those floats are very important when it comes to that particular unit getting stuck.

Sorry yes the CC plus. Water level is fine, and both floats are on the cable. It worked great for the first few months but now it gets stuck on the same step every time it runs. I've only had it maybe 5 months. @@thedolphindoctor

was it always left in the pool? used right after you shocked the pool? this is what causes them to last only that long. Chlorine is corrosive, especially at high levels. just because it's made to be in the water does not mean it's made to withstand a corrosive agent. nothing is. I've seen cleaners last 11 years and I've seen cleaners last 2 years. always correlates to chlorine exposure OR being misused during spring cleaning. all covered in this video on things to watch out for.

I've had Dolphin for almost a decade and a salt water pool. The Dolphin is just poorly engineered, cheap platics and parts at an exhorbinate prices. They are failing just like iRobot is. The cord has never swiveled, the cord rots in the sun not the chlorine. If the cleaner isn't meant to be left in the pool, then what is the use of daily timer cleaning. Dolphin admited the Tritan PS + which is the status design and it just poorly made.

The chlorine is most definitely what causes the rot. Usually the part of the cord outside the pool closest to the power box is fine. I would like to see where dolphin admitted they have a poor design if you can post the link that would be helpful. dolphin states what a good chlorine level is to use the robot in. I find that most people ignore this and that is what leads to 85% of failures. Use the schedule when the chlorine level is fine, then, when you shock the pool, use pH- chemicals, super-chlorinate with a salt generator take the cleaner out for 24-48 ours until the levels go back to normal. No plastic or brand for that matter will take insane amounts of chlorine or very concentrated pH reducer ACID without breaking down over time.

Seriously- who is leaving a robot permanently in a chlorinated environment? Or permanently exposed to UV rays ? We really live in a non scientific age

From being in the industry id say more then half of the people do. The argument is I've spent this money it's made for the pool it should be in the pool. It's a horrific statement. Then people go and complain all over social media complaining it's not working. Just imagine dealing with that sort of mindset.......

I think it's the manufactures fault really. One of the biggest selling points for a vacuum is that it has a schedule computability. What's the point in setting it to clean every 2 days if you have to take it out after every cleaning
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor Жыл бұрын
@@maverickthemutt it's one of those things, it's a double-edged sword. Instructions say to take it out during any chemical work but most people don't do that. It's more like a trade off. of course you can use the scheduler but it's up to you, would you rather do that or get 4 or 5 years more out of it by taking it out. It's up to the consumer. Almost every brand has it but NOTHING no matter what will always be subject to corrosive chlorine.

I understand the PSU isnt waterproof. But it sits next to a pool, it should have some good water resistance at the least. We use one at work and the damn thing doesnt pick anything up anymore, does a very poor job. We have it in over night, it did get rained on a couple of times. Clean filters after every use and remove hair regularly from the impeller. Do you think its a PSU issue?
@thedolphindoctor
@thedolphindoctor 10 ай бұрын
it's not the psu if there was water damage it wouldnt work. The impeller isn't broken right? It has all the blades? are the filters actually clean? Make sure to look at each tiny seam of the ultra-fine filters and make sure nothing is caked up in there. Ive had people tell me they are spotless yet have them come in 2x the weight they should be from stuff locked up in there. Other than that it might be a motor issue which at that point try contacting your seller or Maytronics directly to possibly get warrantied. how hold is the robot
