I'm surprised that those in chat were asking Steve to "prove" Howard wrong. That's intellectually backwards. If you have a claim, especially an extraordinary claim, then the burden falls on your to support your claim. Howard is not even making falsifiable claims. He's "noticing stuff". He's also doing a lot of "galloping" such that you'd have to backtrack a half-dozen assumptions to get to an originating premise. It is rambling in the old-fashioned, non-pejorative definition of the term. I think Steve even says at the start "it's not even wrong."
@SireJoe3 күн бұрын
It's akin to the Chewbacca defense. It's a nonsensical word salad with no premise at all. The end question to it all is.... "Ok... And?"
@theoriginalmonstermaker2 күн бұрын
The problem is that anyone who is in the SLIGHTEST way convinced by Howard's inane, unhinged rambling does not even know what a premise is, or have the patience and understanding to read and grasp your comment. Like Steve said, you can't science ppl out of ideas they don't science into.

I saw waves going through the sky at one point, which was amazing, but yeah, the colors were pretty much not there. That total eclips though. We drove to the path of totality. That was a sight to behold. If I was going to recommend one, I would recommend the eclipse. This could be an entirely different answer if I was further north though.

Im an atheist and i find it very difficult living among religious family members who also believe in most conspiracy theories, naturopathy etc. i really need some advice on how to deal with it. I really dont know how to even talk to them anymore. It feels like im alone against the whole world. Thanks

Great episode as always. I have a question that is bothering me since like 4ever. Why isn’t everyone talking about the fact that almost all the misinformation and conspiracy theories we are dealing with Today is because of scientifically illiterate religious people ? Why isn’t anyone talking about it. Why is this so taboo. We should be talking about it more.There are a lot of orthodox christians in my family and they all believe in most conspiracy theories, pseudoscience etc. its so hard living among delusional people.
@peterjv87487 күн бұрын
It's a complex subject but imo it's not so much religious people as right wing people. And while a-lot are true believers there's just as many that just use religion (esp Christianity) as a prop for their wild and dangerous ideals and conspiracy theories.
@gregczarlinski28117 күн бұрын
@@peterjv8748 yes but the majority of them are in fact religious. The biggest spreaders of misinformation online are in fact fundamentalist christians and their puppets like the whole daily wire crew, peterson, kirk, walsh, ownens, tucker carlson, ken ham, kent hovind and many many others….im sure if we look at statistics it would be clear as day that there is a correlation between misinformation and religion. People who deny evolution etc. how can they possibly understand diseases, climate change, vaccines etc. if they believe god made us and is going to take care of us anyway. Religion to me is the most dangerous idea ever. Religious people just lack critical thinking abilities.

19:00 - absolutely. I'm with Steve on this. She's totally annoying and interjects with her opinion way too much. She needs to turn down the sass. There's a clip of a person asking her to count as she counts too slowly so he says 'a bit faster' and she makes a very ill-timed joke by counting way too fast. What if he was blind, or the situation was urgent. He totally misses the joke and stops her before she can finish but much like that AI robot in the movie Interstellar, I'd want the humour level set to 0. That demo where he's wearing a hat for a job interview, she panders to him waaaay too much in her response. I don't like it at all and still can't find a genuine use for it, considering you have to fact-check everything they say anyway.

Do you really think that with one KZbin Video you can sweep away all he achieved?

The problem with connecting ChatGPT (or any LLM) to an API is that there is no training data. Text->text, text->image, image->text, text->speech and speech->text training data exists in abundance on the internet. Text->api call training data will need to be synthetically generated (at first).

1:24:12 Cost. The ISS is VERY large, it is easier (and safer) to keep refueling it in low earth orbit, than to have to bail out (or reach it) in higher orbits. There is no such thing as Space Stations, only very slow Space Ships!
@Lesserthannone10 күн бұрын
Obital mechanics Not a orbital physicist or any other scientist I am however wonderfully Autistic! larger orbits are moving faster... DUH But they have more area to cover and so get lapped by closer (to the large body in question (ie earth)) orbits. When we leave the orbit of the earth, we are IN FACT now orbiting the sun. In the case of throwing the ball from the ISS, you would lose some amount of speed and give it to ball, this is proportional to the total mass and the mass of the ball to some complex expression of the transferred speed/force to the ball. You could if things were set up accurately SIGNIFCANTLY change the path of the ball, fun stuff to look up is the Oberth effect! Oddly your best chance to have a really different orbit for the ball is to wait till just before the lowest part of the ISS's orbit and throw the ball ahead and also down towards the earth. This will take all the area of the circle you are in and make it egg shaped, thus giving the greatest difference in height buuuuuuuut, might actually have lower sectors of the orbits too, depending on your angle down.
