That has made my week. I literally punched the air. I really shouldn't be investing this much emotion into a group of strangers, but, then again, I've been listening since Perry. Congratulations all.

8:11 I feel that, Steve :) My son and I saw the 2017 eclipse from Idaho, and I know EXACTLY how you guys were feeling. It's so true, photos and video can be awesome, but the experience? Well it simply can't be captured - you have to be there. Congratulations on breaking the curse! Your kids are so lucky to have had this experience so early in life. Love to you all from Scotland.

Okay rogues - July 22nd, 2028. Australia. I have no one here to see it with and I'd be delighted for the company. Would also be a blast to meet some of my skeptical heroes. :)

Where in Australia? I’m thinking I might head to Sydney for it (from Melbs) but I bet accommodation prices will be huge. And middle of winter too.

@@MeppyMan I'm in Canberra but that won't be good enough. The path of totality will cross basically dead center through Sydney, so going there (and booking early) would work a treat. However, I hate traveling through Sydney and will gladly avoid it if I can. I was looking at Dubbo but that was only after a cursory glace at potential locations (I have four years to make a decision after all). Dubbo (or elsewhere away from metropolitan areas) would also have the benefit of being cheaper, cleaner, quieter - just basically more pleasant. The truly prepared might even secure some place in the Blue Mountains - several quaint camping areas are almost right under the path of totality.

Glad it worked out for you guys! I trekked down to Vincennes Indiana and had perfect conditions for the totality. Quite an experience, thanks for inspiring me to make the effort. Definitely worthwhile!

My house is extremely close to the center of totality (although pretty much all of metro Sydney is close enough to not make any difference), I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm so glad Bob's curse was broken. I thought he was gonna ruin it for all of us in the south. In Arkansas we had nearly perfect skies. A few high thin clouds for minutes at a time during the run up and after, but totality was crystal blue skies. I've seen three previous totals, in Turkey, Siberia, and Missouri, but THAT one was the best. Those prominences were mind blowing even for a seasoned eclipse chaser. Y'all experienced one for the ages. Congratulations! See you again at the next NotACon. 😎😎

I went to Brackettville Texas with my dad and used all the knowledge I have been gathering from the podcast to make it as enjoyable as possible. The entire day was overcast, until about half way through, then the clouds parted and we got to see most of the event in incredible clarity. Thank you guys for all the work you do to make the world a more logical and scientifically literate place!

Not one to often chime in on KZbin comments, but have to agree-no picture or video can capture it. I don't know if it's a perceptual trick or something to do with one's focus/attention, but in person the eclipse disk looked as big as pie plate to me. Wasn't expecting the weird purple sky and 360 degree red horizon. Worth the five hour drive to Plattsburgh, NY. I'd read about the strange thing with the clouds dissolving away right as totality takes over. Happened in this neck of the woods, for sure. So glad you guys got a good view. I literally thought, "geez, I hope that SGU crew is seeing what I am."

It's twenty five years since we had a total eclipse here in the UK but I still remember seeing it. We weren't lucky enough to lose the clouds and see the corona but it was still the most indescribable, amazing experience. So pleased for you guys.

I watched it from my childhood home in Indiana. That was my exact thought as I was getting overwhelmed by the moment. I KNOW the science behind and still was completely moved. I can't even imagine what the ancient peoples thought of this.

Thank you for capturing this, it helps me relive our own experience. We were at a park across from a middle school in Mansfield, TX (just south and west of Dallas). I had two telescopes set up and we'd gathered a group of about 30 eclipse watchers by totality. The personal and group experience were unbelievable. The corona, the solar prominences, the reactions of adults and kids. Simply awesome. BTW, Venus was to the right and Jupiter to the left of the Sun.

Glad to know you all had a good time. In my area, we were 100% cloudless and got an amazing view. As I've been saying to everyone, it was the size of it that amazed me. During the day, you can never look at the sun, so can't really judge its size. At night, the moon's size (which has the same apparent diameter as the sun) is also difficult to judge because the sky is dark. But, for the eclipse, the sky was still light enough that you could get a good sense of scale for the event, and the corona just added to the size of it all. And, being able to see the prominence with the naked eye was icing on the cake.

Bob's words mirrored mine at the same time when I saw it here in Canada; it was the most surreal thing I have ever seen in my life... Seeing night rush towards you from the horizon and the corona move around like smoke was completely unexpected. Hopefully I'll never get over how emotional this was for me.

I just can't believe that people actually just keep on driving their cars and trucks in the background while this is happening. I don't understand... who are those people, how is this not making them stop in their tracks and take a minute to just take a breath and marvel at this amazing sight ... ?

A few of thoughts on this video. 1 - it was clouding in Texas then in Salem, Arkansas. I went to Salem from New York. 2- so uncrowded, looks just like your group 3- with the wide angle lens it looks like no one was looking at the eclipse. We all had a great time.

Nice, I'm really happy you all were able to see it. I pivoted from Waco/Dallas to northern NH, the Third Connecticut Lake. It had just snowed, so the lake was frozen and everything was snow covered and the vantage was perfect with the mountains in the background. You could see the shadow come in over the mountains and over the lake and all the snow just reflected all the lighting effects. Think about not looking at it just before totality, like stop looking at the sun, take off the glasses, and just look at the landscape in the direction the shadow will come from and you will be able to see all the lighting changes that happen, and you'll be able to see the first moment of totality where the sunlight filters through the canyons and sparkles as totality hits.

That sounds amazing. I was fortunate enough to see the 2017 eclipse in Oregon. We were up in an area where we could see the shadow sweeping across the landscape like you said.

@@cloudkapfantastic. I was fortunate enough to also see 2017 in KY. We went to a few parks before find one that had space and everyone was set up in the parking lot which was surrounded by trees. At some point during partial, I wandered down a dirt road and found myself in an open corn field with basically no one there, so went to get my gf at the time and we watched totality there. Such a good choice because we wouldn't have seen the horizon effects through the trees from the parking lot. There's also just something different about being surrounded by landscape and life instead of standing on a parking lot. Hope to see at least one or two of the 2026-2028 ones. The 2028 is two days after my birthday, so that's gonna be my absolutely seeing destination but I'll also see about the other two in 26-27. I'm 100% an umbraphile for life.

Glad it worked out for the team. How lucky you chose a nice grassy spot with really no one around but your group. I saw the one in 2017. Really wanted to go this year, but given spring time, was not sure where in the U.S. weather wise the best place to be. Now to plan 2026 or 2028.
