We didn’t get to Vava’u due to rough seas for the tenders, so popped in to see what you experienced. We didn’t do Suva either on our cruise. Lucky to get into Norfolk Island which I loved. They are not leaving from where I am, Melbourne, in the future either.

This was the first large ship model I saw my Dad build somewhere around 1972. I think it took him two years in total and it turned into a work of art. 50 years later he's passed on but my brother still has the finished ship and the custom display base my Dad made for it. Beautiful kit.

Thanks. Just one correction, the dining room is named after the Italian sculptor, painter, architect, Michelangelo, pronounced Mee-kel- Ahn-jelloh. Not Michael Angelo.

Absolutely gorgeous work!! I’m just beginning to dabble my toes in the world of model ship kits. I built several in my middle school years, but never to this level of completeness nor complexity. I’m hoping my work is half as good as yours and I’ll be satisfied. Well done, well done indeed!!!

Hi, just finished watching your video, an would like to ask a few questions, as i am about to do virtually the same cruise on the pacific adventure ( old golden princess ) my favourite ship… next month…..when u arrived at nuku alofu, and vava u..did u do local tours or through the ship? Do they take our currency, or do i need to get some of there’s and if so, where can i get it.. on princess cruises they supply a free shuttle into town at lautoka, so its very rude that p &o charge…. Our fist port of call will be Norfolk island, ( IF we get to go ashore) i have booked a car to drive myself around, im just a bit nervous as will be on my own, so hope places are easy enough to find…and lastly… whats the wait time like to get the shuttle back to the ship, as i saw a video where the line up was disgusting, with heaps of people standing in line waiting… i cant stand for long as i have arthritis in my lower spine and my back throbs.. i cant wait to go swimming again at drqvuni island, love that place as well as mystery island and champagne bay..❤❤ thanks in advance 👍

Hi.We are only too happy to answer your questions. In Nukualofa and Vava'u we walked around as we had taken tours there previously. In each port you can get a local tour on the pier and pay cash in AUD. They are about half the price of the same tour if bought on the ship. (The ship tours sell out quickly but there were plenty on offer on the pier). Yes, P&O charges $20 for a shuttle into Lautoka. We walked it in about 20 minutes. Lautoka is good for shops but otherwise there isn't anything touristy to see. Again the main tours are available on the pier and can be paid in AUD. Norfolk Island is extremely easy to get around in a car. They give you a map and it would be impossible to get lost. (Hope you do get in.) Wait times to get back to the ship from the tenders have never been a problem for us. If you let them know your concerns they will surely look after you. Dravuni is very much like Mystery Island and Champagne Bay. Gorgeous places!! Hope this helps. Have a great cruise

@@calros3 ive been to all the places except norfolk and tonga. duno about driving and reading a map at the same time, as sailing solo.. have done lots of cruising, and have just booked to do n.z again in january on princess. which is my first choice of cruise lines

Just left tonga and on our way to vava’u is the walk into town accessible by walking.. and is the beach walkable to go swimming..tia
@calros32 ай бұрын
It is a short walk to town. We walked through the town to the Church and then explored on foot. We asked about swimming and were told the beach is too far to walk.

Ive stained my sails with a quick wash in diluted acryllic paint. Looks authentic. lightly bound the edges with matching thread. Im stuck with wooden mast hoops, using coloured plain brass wire at the moment. There are some hoops from Amati, i use Amati for thread, got some nice 1mm black gloss. Billings paint kit i bought as a trial, not good. Quality

Loved your video! I’m from Dallas, Tx and doing this cruise in mid October 2024. What is the weather like? It would be fall and cooler weather here in Dallas. I believe it will be Spring there. Just not sure what to pack for excursions.
@calros34 ай бұрын
Yes it will be spring. Weather should be very pleasant. Not too hot and not too cold, but there may be spring storms, so be prepared for a bit of rain. Enjoy your visit to New Zealand.

Dundee was the main source of ropes and nets, so many of these boats would sail up to Dundee from time to time for re rigging.

You said it. Sadly Cunard still insists to the old English class system.Depending where your cabin is. That tells you which dining room. Also the dinner wear. They definitely not like any other cruise ship.

Love what you did with the sails! This turned out great, paint work was excellent on the hull, so well done to you! You mentioned you missed adding all the little details normally found in wooden ship kits? I've seen projects where folk add much more to the plastic model and end up with a sort of wooden/plastic hybrid of a ship that looks fantastic. Plenty of room on these old Airfix kits for a bit of scratch building.

Of all the tall ships, which are many, the Danmark is my favorite. I served in the US Navy from '68-'72. I was stationed on the USS Independence CVA-62. While sailing off the Bahamas we came across the Danmark under full sail. Years later my Wife and I took a cruise and while visiting St. Thomas, the Danmark was docked right in front of our cruise ship. Although I would love to build this ship model, I do not have such patience nor being in my mid '70's my abilities for doing so is something I no longer have. I certainly enjoyed your video and hope you and your family members enjoy it for years to come!!! I will just have to enjoy my Royal Copenhagen Plate with the Danmark on it.
