I love that everything is done by hand. Even the slide work was done by hand. To have that level of confidence in your skill takes years to master.

If you didnt have a mill would you remove material the same way you did the final thousandth?
@HayesCustomGuns
@HayesCustomGuns 2 ай бұрын
@@mikef1949 it would depend on how much material needed to be removed. Not all brands have the same dimensions. I may try to make a video with alternative methods for fitting a slide/frame.

@@HayesCustomGuns Let me first start by saying thank you for the response. Second that your work is absolutely incredible and one of the main reasons I decided I want to take a shot at building my own. I've watched this video in full at least 5 times now in preparation for my parts arriving. I would love to see a similar video but with less speed ups and more detailed commentary. Basically a video with this quality but in full detail start to finish would be legendary and something I would pay for. Theres several things you glossed over understandable for time sake but a long formant even several hours video of you doing things step by step commenting through out would be awesome. Also going over more in depth about the tools you use and also tools that could substitute if you dont have a mill. I'm literally purchasing the tools I need right now and would love something like that to reference. I'm using an atlas slide and cheely frame I dont think I will need to remove tons of material but probably more than a couple thou. I think Im going to use a rail sanding jig and various grit stones. I noticed you were using emery paper over a stone and not the stone itself. any reason for that? Seriously thanks so much for the response and videos it super helpful.

I shoot uspsa. This is my first season with a 2011 (switch from canik.) I have the staccato xl limited edition with the island barrel. Should i go aluminum or steel to help with balance? Having a hard time getting my scores back to what i could do with the light canik. So far, i am not impressed with the 2011 thing, but want to give it a fair shake. The wife got it for me as a gift, so i am really trying to make it work.
@HayesCustomGuns

@@corbinschad1 The XL would not be my first pick for USPSA. The longer slide tends to be better suited for longer shots and is not really “built for speed”. I would not put more money into your XL.

Thank you so much for making this. I've been struggling to make mechanical sense of why 1911s are so touchy compared to other guns for dry fire. It makes much more sense that the humans with super strong opinions on this topic are the touchy ones.

I talked to you on the phone, you might remember I complimented you on your front slide and frame beveling and was hoping you would build me a 4.6 with Atlas parts ( still hoping for that by the way ), going to sell my Atlas and go Hayes, venom looks interesting though, but a bit to much and don’t really want a spyder on my firearm, I used all those jigs back in the colt days, I going to call you again and see if you will build me a 4.6 island. Impeccable work, thanks Pete

How many beans 🫘 would a Damascus slide 1911/2011 build be? I'm sure that's probably $10,000-$15,000? I'm just now getting into the custom builds and watching all these videos, I will have one some day. I just bought a Staccato P a week ago and I'm as happy as can be with this but I know this is probably about like a taurus compared to the custom stuff 😆🤦‍♂️. That is one beautiful peice for sure and someone is a very lucky guy or gal to have that in their collection. Good job on that one 👏 👍 👌
