@@RantandBollox Iunno if it's common, and I just haven't really noticed it before, but it is sort of jarring, to hear the old RP accent enotionally changing so much, within the progression of the piece (when it is without "peace"). I'm sure the feelings evoked are somewhat dependant on a person's region/experience, in some respects, but for me, at least, that accent usually means hearing authoritative passionless 'factual' (in style, if not in substance) information; so hearing it convey such emotion, was almost -with no pun intended (but never mad at their appearance)- foreign to me, perhaps specifically notable here, as an Irish person?!

@RantandBollox You're very welcome, as it is well-earned! Also, all references to you as "Bollox" are kindly meant; as is all harassment to watch Silo. I'm averse to parasocial relationships, so all "stick" given, is meant as mere "shtick"!

I hope that the reason there's no new podcast out yet, means that "Bollox" has finally began watching Silo; and you're ready to do (or have already filmed?!) the new episode reviews, for/on your next podcast episode?!

Well shit, I am only hearing of Carl Weathers' passing due to this podcast. I was already planning a rewatch of Arrested Development; I guess, now, I'll have to get a stew going, in honour of the beloved actor, who was well-known for having so wide a range, that it would be a "waste", to cast Carl as playing Cuba (Gooding Jr)!

Have you guys been watching Superman and Lois? They wrapped up for good last night and I think it’s quite possibly one of the best iterations of Superman there is. Would be interesting to hear your take.

I found it really interesting hearing you 2 talk about "connector" scenes. I think you're right, and those scenes are key to making any film stand above others that just go from set piece to set piece. It would be interesting to hear both your thoughts on Furiosa. Fury Road managed to have these subtle moments that brought depth to the characters, while not pulling the brakes on the pacing. Whereas Furiosa felt to me like the complete opposite. Also, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on Alien Romulus. It's definitely a mixed bag... Something that was said on this channel years ago stayed with me: "It's better to aim for perfection, rather than trying to get better than shit." I think they were aiming for something great, but didn't reach it

Thanks for opening the comments section! ;) I'll likely be back when I have watched the film; I would have skipped through to any non-Gladiator content if there were marked chapters (if ye stray at all from Gladiator in this), though! I did catch the start, and just wanted to note that there's already 3/10 episodes of "Silo" season 2 out; so please add my enthusiasm for "Al"/"Bollox" getting caught up, so it can be discussed here weekly/bi-weekly while it is being released! They're changing the day of the week it is released, so it will be on Fridays from 6th December, if that helps?! :) Edit: Theoretically, as a workaround for Al's schedule, if Silo spoilers aren't an issue for you (I would still say to watch it if possible, ofc); it would be totally fine (for me as a viewer, anyway) if all discussed info on the Silo episodes, just came from one of ye, and the discussion can still have two (and/or including any guests thereafter) involved thereafter. I'm sure the concept/s and characters could be explained well enough for Al to be able to add to it that way, without having to dedicate the time entirely, to intently-focusing on watching the show each week (or two); if/as that's not very manageable/accessible right now. I did similar with/for a former housemate, about a (short-lived, unfortunately) compelling Channel 4 show called "Cape Wrath" which came out week-to-week in 2007. It had a FANTASTIC cast incl. David Morrissey, Tom Hardy, Nina Sosanya, Felicity Jones, Harry Treadaway, Melanie Hill, and Ralph Brown (among others), so much so, that I had to check if the casting had been done by Allison Jones (who is an excellent casting director); as (IMO) I seldom see such a good ensemble on one show, and if/when I do, it's almost always (at least partially) because of Allison Jones' direction in their casting. Each week, I enjoyed recapping it, as much as they did hearing the story of it being retold to them from my perspective; and/so, in some ways, Al might avoid developiing some biases for characters, that can happen as we watch them (more slowly) subjectively navigating their show-worlds?! Anyway, feel free to disregard, I just have a figurative horn for Silo; and would like to hear more nerding about it, from folk I respect :)

Great episode, Lads. I think I’ll need to watch Silo now… But I’ll throw it out there. One show that I’ve seen over the past couple of years that has stood out in its standard of writing and characters has been Arcane. Yes, it’s animated. But the quality of characters and plot still stood out as something to be admired, in this day and age. I’ve also never played the games, so don’t think that is a reason not to get into the show. Another thing that just came to mind is the 2nd Spiderverse film. What were your thoughts? Would love to hear them!

Just last week I went back and listened to my favorite video of yours - the 'Stories Need Heart' review of Green Lantern - and was lamenting the channel's lack of activity, and then NEW videos starting showing up in the feed! I know they're really work intensive, but I really dig those 10-20 minute video essays / analyses.

I would definitely listen to (and comment on), a weekly/bi-weekly, review/breakdown of "Silo" as it's coming out! IMO biweekly, I think, would work well for the 10 ep series (so, doing 5 eps of your R&B, about the 10 ep series), *if* weekly episodes would cause scheduling pressure (or viewers' fatigue etc). Also, that way, presuming you'd be releasing your 5 episodes, after each of the even-numbered Silo episodes have aired; all of your eps might fall nicely within the algorithm's window/s of opportunity for being boosted to new viewers?! I'd similarly watch/comment on any more insightful, and/or thoughtful video essays by "Rant" (and 'not-"Rant"', saying "Bollox" seems aggressive, if there are any to come); on whatever he (/ye) might choose, and *if* that ended up being about that positively frenetic show, "The Bear", either entirely so far, or a season per essay/episode, then no complaints from me! For now, I am off ~to save the world~ (JK, as "I'm here all weak" {spelled that way purposefully}) to get, and then watch, "From"; as you reminded me of it being *somewhere* on my ever-expanding list of media to consume!

There's a shot in the movie that I just don't understand. After Thomasin has killed her mother in self defense, she stares off into the forest, at a specific point. Looks like it might be Caleb's grave? It switches to a shot from just behind her head, her hair on the back of her head completely out of focus as the focal point is set to the grave and the tree it's by. I saw one person on reddit mention something about a "quivering sapling" but as far as I can see, the small leafless tree isn't even swaying in the breeze.

These "analysis and explanation"-videos are ABSOLUTELY GOLDEN. I remember being absolutely being blown away by their depth and detail when I first watched them in 2018. It's a shame that there are only 5 of them (since they are SOOO GOOOOOD). Terminator&Terminator 2, The Dark Knight, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Prestige and The Witch. But I'm hoping for more in the future. This sereis DESERVES a comeback. As well as millions of views.

Interesting details about The Terminator/Terminator 2: 1. John Connor’s initials JC are the same as in Jesus Christ (and James Cameron) 2. John Connor wears a Public Enemy t-shirt in T2. It would make sense for a rebelious kid/teenager in the early/mids 90s to wear a shirt like that. But also, in the eyes of Skynet, John Connor is public enemy number 1. 3. In T2 Sarah Connor becomes the very thing she tries to destroy/prevent, a Terminator (when she goes after Miles Dyson on a murder mission) 4. The arcade videogame John plays in The Galleria, Missile Command, echoes plot points from the movie. It’s a game where you defend cities from nuclear missiles. And you’re never able to win/beat the game, only get a high score. 5. The burning playground in the opening credits in T2 features four burning spring rocker horses. It bears a strong resemblance to "The four horsemen of the apocalypse"

41:11 I like the directors cut, but I think this is one of the moments where the original cut is better. Here in the DC, John yells out 'shoot' because he sees the T1000 glitching. In the original, he yells out 'shoot' because he reasons his mother would not call out to him and put him in danger.
