I'm on my way down now i'm in my 60s. Last year i traded my BMW for a Royal Enfield 650 with less than half the power, but it's twice as much fun to own and ride. No doubt if i live long enough i'll be trading down to a 500 or 350 next. That is if we arnt all forced by the off the road by the government or at best on to EV bikes.

I love my 2004 Gilera DNA 180cc 4 stroke. I restored it myself. The 180cc satisfies the craving for just a bit more speed and a bit more strength and pull that I wanted when I was on 125 without breaking the bank. I can cruise at 60 with little more than half throttle and can go up to around 85mph if I want. If I want to pass on the dual carriageway I can and I can cruise at the national speed limit without full throttle. Just shy of 20bhp is perfect for me. I can pull away slowly or I can shoot off the line if I want and the freedom is amazing. Its got the speed where it counts. The 0-60 time is actually not bad, under 10sec and I have no need to accelerate at ridiculous speed. It's really a do-it-all bike which I care for like its my son or daughter and I love sub-250cc single cylinders for the fine balance they give you between performance and economy. I like reliability, efficiency with a little helping of performance sprinkled on. I love CVT transmission for its smoothness and I believe that its easier on the engine. I am mechanically sympathetic to a fault and I take huge pride in building something reliable and robust, not chasing silly things like a stupidly loud exhaust or pops and bangs but listening to the engine and working the engine, giving it what it wants to run with solid performance for as long as possible. My single cylinder is probably the most pampered cylinder of any engine of any vehicle in my town haha. No emissions shit like EGR it doesnt even have PAIR, just raw engine. Also when you get a small engine running good and you know its gonna last many many thousands of miles it is always reflected in the performance

I was dissing mine, it was a piece of crap 😂 it had a foot peg missing, no stand (had to lean it on a wall) only high beam worked on the headlight, bald tyres, dints everywhere, would overheat when it felt like it. And I had no money at the time so I made do 😁

Ideal mode of transport. Unfortunately, in this day and age with increased traffic volumes and risks , those nostalgic rides of yesteryear are not quite the same . In the 70s my lambretta gp200 gave the freedom you expressed . But today I am concerned at the speed and selfish driving of other fast road users .

0 - 60 on a crotch rocket isn't fast but I see your point. I've just given up my YZF600 and bought a J300, something I never thought would happen. If I'm honest, I do miss the acceleration but even the J300 burns any car I'm likely to meet at a red light and I'd like to keep my licence after that. I've been riding for over 35 years and I don't plan to give up, if my J300 gets too heavy (the main reason I changed bikes) I'll buy a 125, just cursing along is what I like best now.

I gave the dune buggy to my oldest son, the 350 small block VW beetle to his brother, and am down to a couple of mopeds, an ebike and pedal bikes. Of course I have a car. A Honda trail 90 sits in the garage for years, it is too slow for traffic around here (tops out at a bit over 40) has to be inspected, insured, licensed. Had a Honda 90s as a teen ager, it would go 55 mph, didn't realize the "S" must have meant "Speed". I stay on the side of the road with the mopeds (where I feel safer). The one moped is a clone of a Ciao made in India and I keep thinking what a blast it would be if it had a gearbox or a variable speed drive. The expansion pipe and super quiet muffler I made added 5 mph to it (now goes 30 rather than 25), it actually has some pull on the pipe. Very slow off the mark....The other moped is powered by a 212 Honda clone. Beautiful scenery on your vid! Nice talk and wow lots of views. Mike

@@thatwelshman4518 What I did is very simple-> brush type 24v motor / ebay 24v 350 watt controller, (2) 12v lithium batteries. The newer stuff has brushless motors= more efficient/ more complex. The fat tyres ride better but have a tad more rolling resistance. If you have a local dealer that can fix what they sell, look into what they have to say. E-stuff is a whole world of learning

@@thatwelshman4518I went up Gospel pass on it a few weeks back to. Its only a little Chinese thing that I bought cheap off Ebay from a bloke in Wales (same as my other 3 coincidently, guess I'm a sucker for punishment) and put a bit of money into fixing it back up so it rides nice again and at the moment its the only one of my fleet that I have on the road and being out on it all the time is keeping me from spending time fixing the rest. I caught up to a crew of people on a load of big bikes as I approached the start of the road from the Abergavenny side having come up from Bristol and they looked like they were struggling a bit with the tight lanes as I did when I took my old Tiger up there. I just tagged along behind laughing at them all weaving all over the place trying to avoid the loose gravel and not crash into each other. Was out for 7 hours in total and only missed the Triumph when I was on the fast A roads on the return journey as you are basically pinned in 5th to go 60mph and when my ass started to go numb about 2/3 of the way round as the seat isn't very padded. Apart from that I agree that you can have just as much fun on a smaller CC bike just bobbing around and taking it all in as you can riding a big bike flat out but to each their own i guess. More fun riding a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow anyway in my opinion.

I haven't got any licence yet (CBT soon though!!) but I live somewhere where the police don't mind the higher powered ebikes (30~mph) and 50-70cc pedal and pops given you ride safely with the right gear and lights etc... and when people ask me why I'm not rushing to get a license for a bigger bike, this is basically what I say. Doing 35mph on my 69cc pedal and pop will always be a bigger thrill to me than doing 100mph on a big bike is. I also have a massive love for the honda C's

Having left my seventh birthday in my wing mirror I sold my XRV750, which I had had for many many years, some four years ago and had no bike for about nine months. I really missed the wind in my face so had a good look for something smaller, secondhand, with low miles and settled on a 20hp Xmax250 and am now enjoying my biking as much as I ever have. These modern scooters have a list of advantaged over previous generations and are super fun to ride with low centre of gravity. I had to buy a luggage frame and box but still haven't spent any more than what I got for the XRV. These modern maxi scooters are close in design to the old Heinkel Tourist 175's of my youth, but with today's Japanese engineering everything works 100%. Thank you for your video's.

I recently bought the Meteor 350 Fireball, £3200 inc on the road from Moto GB who are selling them off. They used to be the importer but no longer are, so they are selling off their stock of them. The Meteor is excellent, I highly recommend it. I used to own a Scram, the finish level and comfort of the Meteor is much better and more solid, even though it’s currently a cheaper bike. But if you want the step up in power to the interceptor, then they are also currently fantastic value as well at £5200 brand new on the road. Good luck with whatever you decide. 👍

Me and a few mates to ride these delivering pizzas in west London in the early 90s, they could take an absolute kicking, the amount of times they ran out of oil would seize up and then continue to run after they cooled down was insane. Could wheelie one of these all the way down the street! The local Pizza Hut was near us at Rayners Lane and we used to love flying past them at 57mph while they were on those Hondas. I like the Emerald Green, red, and blue. It would be nice if the red and blue ones had chrome fenders. IMO, it is impossible to have too much chrome. On the other hand, NOTHING is UGLIER than FLAT BLACK. It is disgustingly ugly. Makes me want to throw up. And the matte colors are not much better. A classic or cruiser style motorcycle should have tons of bright shiny paint, bright aluminum, and LOTS of chrome. The ONLY parts that should be black are the frame, seat, tires, grips, cables and hoses.
