Awesome build. Where can I find the flexible ruler you use. I like how it conforms to the curvature of the wine staves.

These videos are really well done Hubert. I just created my first wine barrel Adirondack chair for my sons birthday. I am contemplating putting a brace in the back, between the back of the leg and the armrest to give a bit more stability for larger people. Not sure it is necessary. Any comments good or bad on this andded strut are welcome.

I like the design. Is your water cooled Spindle and VFD working out well? I've burned out two makita palm routers, a 3hp porter cable over heats and is quite loud. My original PC crashed and have had to perform the necessary breakout board upgrad. I purchased the same one. Great video

So how is your drawing supposed to help people that don’t have it. Why not give measurements up the board. Not from the ground??

Great video...especially at the beginning when you described what type of barrel head should be used. One question--I am just getting into CNCing and have Vectric software... could this have been done in Vectric, Adobe Illustrator (I have licenses for both of these), or some other program? Also, curious what type of screws you used to hold the bands...regular big box store, or did you find a source of cool, old-school screws? Thanks.
@huibertmees3891

I am not familiar with the details of either Vectric or Illustrator but I suspect any graphic package could be used to generate the design. You will need something like Fusion 360 or V-Carve or Carveco to turn the graphics into G-Code however.

Ok, so that last one with the side staves is exactly what I'm wanting to make. I want to cut the logo through the barrel top and use colored plexiglass with LEDs inside to light up the logo. And the whole sign would be 2-sided, with 2 of the parts like the one you showed at the end hinged together so the wiring will be secured inside and it can be hung on an angle iron bracket from above. Where would be a good source for a barrel? The ones I'm finding are old and weathered with rusted rings.

Some wineries will sell their old barrels but I found the bets source to be Craigslist. If you are located in California then you can also try www.winebusiness.com/classifieds/

Clear, concise, perfect. Thank you for the demo and possible pitfalls. I'm planning on purchasing some used barrels from nearby wine country but need to disassemble them to bring them home!

Follow up: I ended up borrowing my sister's car so I could take my time disassembling the barrel at home. It took longer than I expected (approx. 1 hr), but definitely doable. I recommend using a pry bar, such as the Wonder Bar. Made the job go much faster.

I really want toknow how you make this chair and I am interested in what you have to say. The music prevents me to watch this video unmuted. The mudic is to loud in comparison to the talking, so if the volume is set so the music is tolerable, I can not hear what you have to say. Could you please reupload this video series without the music? I think these series will do a lot better on youtube.

Hi, can you share your hardware materials list? I have the barrels already I just want to make sure I buy the same bolts, screws, etc you used. Thank you!
@huibertmees3891
@huibertmees3891 Жыл бұрын
The bolts are all 5/16" carriage bolts varying in length from 1 1/4" to 2 1/2" depending on the thickness of the staves being connected. The nuts are 5/16" low profile nylon insert lock nuts that I get at Fastenal. The screws are PowerPro Exterior torx drive screws (from Lowe's) varying in length from 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" again, depending on the thickness of the staves being connected. Any good exterior grade deck screw will work just as well, though. The only other hardware are the brackets which, as you see in the video, I make from the barrel hoops. Good luck building your own. They are super comfortable when finished.

I have watched all 3 videos and like your approach and of course the final product. I really appreciate that you shared this build and everything that goes into making something at a professional level. I was curious if you have any feedback on how the finish held up after a season outside, and if it was under cover etc. Thanks again.
@huibertmees3891
@huibertmees3891 Жыл бұрын
The finish has held up fairly well, but I would always prefer something better. No finish will really stand the test of time so keeping the chairs covered as much as possible, especially in the rain, is always a good idea.

In the step where you are drilling the second hole on the first armrest, did you mean to drill a hole at "29-7/8? I'm hearing you say "21-7/8.
