Thanks for your video! I’m getting ready to tackle this tomorrow and I just received my 1-1/16” impact socket from ordering online through Home Depot. The largest size in store at Home Depot or Lowe’s is 1”. I’m replacing the standard length anode rod with the Corro-Protect Powered Anode Rod. I installed the electrical outlet next to the water heater in my garage today. In preparation for pulling the existing anode rod, I tested inserting my impact socket and discovered the plastic collar wouldn’t allow a fit on the rod head. So, I decided to search through KZbin for a solution and found your gem! I do have a heat gun, so my installation tomorrow will go as planned without any issues. Again, thanks for posting your brilliant solution! 👍

I'm seeing your vid about making your own dip tube? I have a GE electric wh and my cold inlet is oozing water. The nipple is pretty rusty and I'm going to try and replace it. The wh is around 8 years old but I just don't have 400 bucks right now for a new one. So I'll try. I've looked for dip tubes and noticed they are manufacture oriented? Assuming my tube is bad, I wondered about using cpvc to make one. Seeings the one's I've seen are about 30 bucks. Including the nipple. I am worried the tank threads are going to be crap though. What do ya think? And why are the nipples such a B, to remove 🤣? Thanks Oop, just watched the ending. WT heck? Why would the hot side be larger? They're both 3/4 , right? So where you going to reverse flow? I guess it's just a tank, right? No reason it shouldn't work. Seems weird a 1/2 inch piece of PVC wouldn't fit in an female 3/4 inch threads. 🤔
@thewaterheaterfactory
@thewaterheaterfactory 6 күн бұрын
@@peterford9369 yeah I imagine you could use C. PVC or you could use pex. if you wanted to - they are kind of expensive at $30. The nipples will be hard to remove especially if they’ve been leaking. There’s gonna be a lot of rust sometimes you can put a torch on it and loosen it up that way but it’s a slippery slope because if you put a wrench on the nipple and you shear it off, you’re pretty much screwed.
@peterford9369
@peterford9369 6 күн бұрын
@thewaterheaterfactory Thanks for responding. Yeah, I've heard putting a pipe or maybe an extractor in the nipple before putting a pipe wrench on it, helps keeping it from crushing it. Honestly, I was thinking, the fact that it is leaking through the threads, it may actually be easier to crank it out. The water has acted like a lubricant, so to speak. I've always heard, you heat, what your trying to expand. In this case, the tank threads. Heating the nipple, would cause it to swell. Logically anyway. Wouldn't be so bad if I was still working. I'd just buy a new one and change it out. But they're so much more expensive now. I paid under 2 hundred for this one back when I installed it. Now, the cheapest 40 gallon ive seen is 400 bucks. Plus copper, I'm looking at 450 bucks. That's almost a third of my SS check each month. That's why I'm hoping I can get this one to stop leaking and maybe get another year out of it. I have extracted broken pipe threads before on car engines and some plumbing. But never a wh tank. Even 50 bucks is better than 450. Anyway, thanks for making that video and responding to many of your viewers. Most utubers don't care enough to do so. 👍👍

My 27mm (1 1/16th) was too thick to fit in the hole, so I placed a flat head screw driver between the tank and the plastic sleeve. raised the sleeve all around and then used a plyer to finish pulling the plastic sleeve out. Not very difficult but it take some force on the plyer to pull out the sleeve. Once the sleeve is gone, the 27mm fits around the anode bolt perfectly. Thanks for the vid.

U did the open circuit test on the thermocouple. The 28MVs u got is for the flame impingement on the thermocouple. So it's not telling u a good thermocouple. U need a junction block to put on the valve in place of the thermocouple to do a closed test to test for a bad thermocouple. I do an open circuit test ( what u did) which tells me of the flame is impinging good on it, the closed circuit test with the junction block and thermocouple connected to it. With the closed test for a good thermocouple u should get a minimum of 8MV, which tells me if the thermocouple is good. Then with the junction block and thermocouple still on I do a drop test which tests the mag head on the gas valve. The drop test is just turning off the control and watching the MVs drop. If the mag head drops above 4MV, then the mag head is bad, if it drops below 4MV then the mag head is good. If the mag head is bad then change the gas valve. I work for the gas company and this is the trouble shooting we do for the thermocouple & mag head in the gas valve. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work

@@yelumarketing : yeah I definitely see a lot more causes in the winter time for the gas valves. Malfunctioning always thought it was temperature related. Maybe it was affecting the gas pressure in the pipes, but it stands the reason the people are running their furnaces. So the Honeywell electronic gas valves are just more sensitive so maybe they just can’t handle you know change in pressure. It was possible for you to swap your Water Heater over to an older type of Rogers white or Ural Valve and then go with a thermal couple instead of a thermal pile. That’ll probably solve your issue permanently. Behave end up doing nothing or just reset it. There is a reset procedure. Maybe maybe write the dates down when you get to Code sevens on the Water Heater then you can cross check them next year. I appreciate you watching the video and commenting. Thank you so much.
