I'm a Welsh Speaker, I wonder how far I'd have to go back in time for myself and a Gàidhlig/Gaeilge/Gaelg speaker to converse in a mutually intelliable language. Probably around the 5th or 6th century.

I seriously considered subscribing to Encyclopaedia Britannica before scanning its internet homepage. DEI is one symptom of societal erosion, and pressure applied to organizations to embrace such conspicuous illogic is extortion. Caving to this demand for compliance finds its inception in either cowardice or a naive understanding of compassion. Or a combination of both.

This is an excellent film. More of this; I really like your father's dialect of Gaelic. In the north east, we learnt Gaelic in the 90s via TV so I'm not sure what dialect that would be! my aunt and her family speak Gaelic as they are from Skye originally.

Your connection of "elf-shot" with Neolithic arrowheads is the first NEW thing I've learned about the witchcraft murders since seeing their likeness to the MAGA movement. Both were/are far-reaching and many-headed manipulations by men in local, regional and multiregional positions of power, OF local men with less power. They were then, and are now, inhuman murder cults. To keep trying to explain it away by talking about people's "superstition" is useless. The murders were done by people who had power to arrest, "try", and order victims executed, then publish what those victims had said under torture. I believe torture wasn't "often" used; it was ALWAYS used. To spread terror among the people vulnerable to being accused. Then as now -- and it's a mere few hundred years between then and now -- there are plenty of men who have already given up their humanity available when an opportunity like either of these comes to cash in and obtain power. What you didn't say about Kramer & Sprenger's Malleus Malificarum, is that it's full of lies. It was probably commissioned by someone more powerful than these two Dominican priests. I first became "interested" in the witchcraft murders when I was in my 20s. I'm 80 now and have learned as much as I can about them, starting with Margaret Murray's "The God of the Witches". But it was my realization of its likeness to MAGA that has explained it best.

I have been an avid reader of the Rebus novels and recently read A Heart Full of Headstones. Unfortunately as of late the narrative is being bleached of its Scottishness. I haven't lived in Scotland for 60 years and like my Scottish friends here we enjoy the Scottish Lowland vernacular dancing through a Rebus tale. Give us back our Irn-Bru.

Just needed to write a comment because IR deserves all of the kudos which have come his way and there should never be a blank comment section under his name..either viewers are not commenting, or I'm the only one who has watched this fascinating video on Rankin's thought processes..kinda doubt it...

I wonder why plastic book covers aren't a thing yet. It'd definitely save on cost and environment friendly as well. The back would have a circle like joint and a cylinder pin to allow opening and closing. Probably better and preserving the pages as well since this could allow shielding from the elements with a plastic cover over the open space of the book too. Constant sunlight or heat could mess with it tho.... Bah, thinking to hard on this. lovely video!

No wonder when ancestral records are sought, at certain dates, we get told many records were destroyed. Thanking God for all actively involved in the effort to trace as many lost records and Rightful Truths on behalf of all who were so unimaginably treated and so dreadfully wronged. 🌌🌎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🫂💦💔🙏

Prof Mattius Desmet has a theory of a "Mass Formation". You need a narrative from a leading figure (Church) to spread the fear to produce the anxiety in the public. Why>? Simple as this church wants depopulation as its easier to take over the ownership of land when there is a lack of descendants>? If you look at who owns deeside after the witch hunts you will see thats its royal & church based ownership....
