I have amblyopia. with corrective lenses I am able to get 20/20 left eye and 20/30 right eye. I dont have strabismus i actually did when I was little the right eye was looking off ngle when my left eye was looking straight. But that fixed itself as I grew up. My issue is the actual qualitiy ov vision and vision clairty/acuity. Will patching/vision therapy be able to possibly improve my right eye vision clarity/acuity even if its not to a perfect level? Do you think I would be able to eventually turn the 20/30 in my right eye to 20/20 with consistent vision therapy and pathcing. I just need my right eye to see as clear s the left eye.

Vision therapy could make a huge difference. Especially in improving how the eyes work together. Patching probably won't make a difference at this point, I'm guess you patched as a child? Now your brain needs the work to use the eyes efficiently together. Find an office at strabismussolutions.com/findvt/

Adult Onset estropia, been through 2 years of VT with improvement. My question, How to know when/if you should try surgery and the risk factors for adult onset?. (no other medical issues caused my strabismus, it was bad prescription and bad visual habits.) I know its a question best left for medical professionals but I have gotten a lot yes and no from them and I feel petrified by mt fear of making it worse. The whole situation has destroyed my mental health.

Hi, @rawstmv, so relieved that there is another adult case of esotropia out there! I developed it for the same reasons as you, no physical pathology, and I’ve done VT for 3 years with Syntonics. I only had esotropia when I was tired, but it became constant after using prism glasses. Stopped the prisms and I am improving. Surgery doesn’t fix the cause of esotropia so try hanging in there with VT. Melissa gives us great info on exercises too!

This can be so tricky! Keep your eye out for a video, I added this question to the list. The short answer is that if it is intermittent, I always recommend at least a year of vision therapy first. If you are still having issues, especially in the distance, a little tweak on one muscle might be the perfect solution for you. There are no always or never answers with strabismus. You can book a call at strabismussolutions.com/consult/ .

I relate to this so much! I work in a clinic and for me it is such a stab when I’m talking to a patient (very clearly they came up to me or are the only other person in the room) and they turn to look behind them when I speak. I know this feeling exactly. My eye turn is caused by my brain not being able to fuse, not by muscular offset. I have not been eligible for surgery my whole life, but I saw my doc yesterday and he thinks I may be a candidate for a new eye correction surgery. I’m so looking forward to the moment where I can really look someone in the eye or feel confident on camera! My eye turn is a huge part of my social anxiety. Thank you for sharing this!!

@@strabismustostereopsis7799 Yes! My doctor is a huge supporter and pioneer of vision therapy! I started seeing him when I was 10, and he immediately started me in therapy. I continued doing weekly therapy until I left for college. It definitely helped, and I learned lots of tools and tricks, but it wasn’t enough to get me to fusion. My eso was made worse by study with computers and books at close distance on the regular, so it was fighting an uphill battle. I’m so grateful to have an eye doctor that recommends therapy as so many people are not recommended therapy and lose the alignment after surgery.

Vision therapy can help but with adult onset strabismus I think the surgery is totally worth it. Some of those are definite concerns to think about. I will say that being put to sleep and risking vision loss are very low risk and probability is on your side. Double vision only happens (long-term) about 5% of the time, but most people experience some double for at least a few weeks after surgery. Repeated surgeries are pretty common if you aren't combining with vision therapy....Good luck!
