Great reports as always Greg and congrats to you both for your new born. Is there any good books you can recommend on surf fishing . Also what time was that seminar on October 5.
@FishermansHeadquarters2 күн бұрын
Books I would suggest... on lures... Zeno's The Art of Surfcasting with lures is a great one. Also Skinner's Striper Pursuit... The Complete Guide to Surfcasting by Joe Cermele... An older but good one. Surf Fishing With the Experts by Muller. The Seminar is Saturday 9-11 am, hope to see you there!

Good report. New sub. What brand jacket is that?
@FishermansHeadquarters2 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. The jacket is a Grundens Gore-Tex Jacket that I got last year. It's a perfect shell with a nice hood and neoprene cuffs. I've had a lot of different jackets and this is one of my favorites, but it isn't cheap.

Its about the same in south nj. Im in AC area, weve been getting a north wind making it nearly impossible in the ocean and tough in the inlet. Super high tides since the full moon with flooding. The mullet run has died down a bunch
@Sideler749 күн бұрын
Holgate is LOADED with Mullet. The run is on! I'm not the best @ throwing a cast net & I was getting about 8-15 mullet each time I threw my little 6 ft net.

Greg you say that the striped bass bite has been goon all summer. You really don't empathize on it . Please tell me more.
@FishermansHeadquarters9 күн бұрын
Please check back on recent report videos as well as the more detailed report blog posts at FishingLBI.com - We had a great summer of light tackle striped bass action in the Barnegat Bay. These are resident schoolies which were a slightly larger size this summer from the past few. Seems to be more active too. Most all of my catches were fishing the flats with poppers as well as the sod backs with bucktail jigs. Also the rips and structures of the main thoroughfares were productive for me and others during the lower traffic periods of time and prime tidal windows. Hope that helps. If you need more assistance please stop in the shop.

Tried the beach yesterday couldn’t hold with a 8oz spudnik. Very frustrating ended up using a 5oz storm sinker casting up current and walking down beach with it. Hopefully this blow ends soon! Thanks for all your reports throughout the year!
@FishermansHeadquarters9 күн бұрын
Thanks for your report. Walking with it and more actively fishing the rod is a very good way to bait fish a sweeping current. Some areas it's the only way.

Filming right in front of my house 😂
@FishermansHeadquarters9 күн бұрын
That's a great view you got there but I'm sure you took a beating from Sandy with the south - southwest exposure. Would of been nice if years back LBT built that small pier another 100' out.
@CoastalKids129 күн бұрын
@@FishermansHeadquarters yeah I usually keep my boat right there but it’s out of the water for repairs now. We had to redo our entire downstairs after sandy and then lift the house it was rough. Yeah there’s a hole about 75 feet passed the pier and hold some smaller fish but fun kayak spot.

I have purchased the penn fanthom 300 bait casting reel last week and used it for fishing yesterday day. Very nice product however is it normal that the level winder does not move in free spool is that normal? Thanks
@FishermansHeadquarters20 күн бұрын
Yes that is normal. The reason it is designed that way is to optimize casting distance. If the level wind was driven during a cast it would cut back casting significantly.

Hello I have a question is it possible to catch stripers from the surf all summer long . if so are minnow plugs the way to go or should I use bottom jigs like sand eel imation. I'll mostly be fishing at night.

Always a blast fishing with Fish Head Greg! Definitely enjoyable trip this year once again 🤙 The wind picked up pretty strong the last two days this week on Thursday and Friday. However, I still managed to have two in a row days of great surf fluking on the south end of the island with bucktail/teaser rigs using white/pink shine gulp grubs, and another couple fish on the minnow plug up to just a hair under 18”

Got some fluke in raritan bay on monday labor day. Using 1/2 oz white and black bucktail jig with white gulp grub on the hook. Biggest was 24 inch and fat. Real nice fish. Got windy towards the evening but still alot of bites. The plain jig head w gulp wasnt getting half as many hits. Gonna try gulp shrimp and gulp bloodworms on sunday. Caught a nice 14 inch oyster toadfish also. Very ugly guy

I just went back to straight mono. I got tired of spending time tying complicated braid to fluoro knots instead of spending that time with my line in the water 😅. Hoping I don’t get bit less 🥲

How are you weeding out the small tog?? Can’t find any over 13” in the inlet
@FishermansHeadquartersАй бұрын
It's tough. When fishing offshore wrecks I go to larger baits, whole green crabs, half or whole white crabs. Sometimes it takes a lot of patience feeding the small ones. When the small critters are aggressive and thick it is very difficult as they just clean you off one bait after the next. Most likely there are too bigger fish in that spot. The millions of palm size tog at the inlet make it challenging.

Where are the tests that prove flouro is harder to see through the fishes eye than mono?? Or is this another marketing scheme for people to spend more money
@FishermansHeadquartersАй бұрын
No one can look through a fishes eye but we can use our own eyes. Fluoro has a similar refractive index as water. There was a time when we had a glass box in the shop with water and 10-12 different lines stretched vertical through it. It was obvious to the human eye that fluoro was mush less visible than other nylon or copolymer mono lines. In the thinner tests the fluoro was near invisible. With regards to fishing not all applications require fluoro and I catch plenty of fish routinely on affordable mono like Ande Premium and Triple Fish. Been using Ande my whole life and have lots of confidence in it. However there are times were light fishing with fluoro is the only way to get a bite. It has its time and place.
@aesop273316 күн бұрын
"Fishing With Nat" has a video where he takes fluoro and mono of various strengths and puts them through different lighting scenarios underwater. What I saw is that there's basically no difference as far as visibility is concerned. Abrasion resistance seems to vary wildly so the only reliable upside I see to fluoro is that it usually takes a few pounds more to begin stretching, but that also makes a lot of sense when you consider that fluoro is known to become brittle in certain conditions. Unless you rely on your lines for income then mono is probably the better choice. Tons of people absolutely slay their local waters spooling endless amounts of Big Game
